Hey guys, have pictures I'll be posting from my vacation in California, Vancouver, and Seattle. But first, can anyone guess what happened here? FastCargo

Maybe so, but here is the actual case: http://www.lectlaw.com/files/cur78.htm FastCargo

My weaponsFastCargo replied to i90807065's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion Yep, you are missing something. You must find the weapon that you added in the weapon editor (after you open weapondata.ini with it). Double click on the weapon to open up the page for it...then just hit 'OK'. DO NOT ALTER ANYTHING! Then save the file. The weapon editor will then rebuild the weapondata.dat file with your new weapon. That's it. FastCargo

Retrofit those Nukes!FastCargo replied to Mike463's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion Mike, Thanks a lot for the input. This is a lot of stuff that you are asking to be done. Nuclear weapon details are great...however, there are a bunch of projects going on. Actually, these projects might be a great way for you to learn the ins and outs of modding for the TW series of sims. For instance, loadout files are simple text inis. You could be the one to tweak the loadout for the B-52s and FB-111s. Also, range and speed issues with the SRAM can be changed in a similar manner, just using Notepad. Some of the weapons have skins that are simple BMPs, you can change them in Microsoft Paint. Check the knowledge base for details, we'd all benefit from your expertise in this area. FastCargo

While visiting the in-laws in Vancouver, BC, I stopped by Future Shop to get a wireless router for my in-laws (DSL...so sloooowwww). Anyway, while I was there, I found some 'Collector Editions' of Tom Clancy FPSes...basically, collections of PC FPS games for each series except for the most recent release. The collections not only include English and French versions of each game, but shirts, caps, bags, and a belt. Plus they come in these containers: Obviously, I don't care too much about the non-software stuff (though my wife digs the containers they come in...great for stuff...freak out your neighbors when you offer cookies from the 'cookie tin')...but if you haven't got these series' already, the price is pretty darn reasonable...29.99 CDN for each collection. I didn't play a lot of the R6 series, nor any of the GR series, so these were no brainer purchases. SC I already have all the series, so I didn't buy that collection. Also, anyone want the French versions of the games? I'm not going to play em... Anyway, for those who never tried any of the series', I think they're pretty darn reasonable way to start...

Is SimHQ down again?FastCargo replied to Mannie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion That's what I was thinking...they seem to get great traffic without the downloads. I'd think it would be more of a hassle at this point. Besides, I'd rather be here for my downloads... FastCargo

Hey guys, Been using something called portable applications - PortableApps. The idea is that instead of having applications running off the computer, you have the applications on a USB stick and run them off the stick...no install, setup, or anything. The program basically is self contained, so all you need is a Windows PC with a USB port and you're good to go. Great for if you're traveling a lot, and aren't sure what programs may be at the computer you are using at a destination. Anyway, I decided on a lark, to try to run SFP1 and WOV (basic installs, fully patched) off a flash drive as well...already knowing about how easy it is to backup. Well, it works! Not only that, it works REALLY well! I was quite surprised actually! It's funny, now I keep thinking all I need is a USB joystick, and my flash drive, and I can pretty much sim ANYWHERE there is a Windows PC that runs XP and meets the specs! Also, would serve as a quick way to intro folks into the SFP1 world without dragging my whole PC or installing anything on their computer. FastCargo

That I can't help you with...I'm not smart enough on WWI aircraft to help there... Honestly, that depends on the actual aircraft. Remember, back in aviation's infancy, they were still trying out a lot of stuff...especially when pushing aircraft to the edge of the envelope. And small changes could make for big results. Again, depends on the aircraft. I will say that I think most aircraft back in the day could recover from a straight stall. The problem was always if one wing dropped off first due to torque effects, a bent airframe, etc. Then things got nasty (ie an unrecoverable spin...). Well, depends who you talk to. Simulations in general have difficulties emulating post-stall behavior, because of the odd dynamics (vorticies, turbulence, etc). Also, even good designs can have odd quirks that don't show up until operations. Several examples: The early F-100s had a nasty yaw tendency, corrected by increasing the vertical tail size in later models. The early F-4s had an ugly tendency to get into a spin at high AOA if you used the aileron. The F-15E can get into an auto-roll couple in certain configurations. The B-1 is not recoverable if it gets into a stall (doesn't even have to spin...just a straight stall). Most aircraft of the WOV/SFP1 area had thin wings to go fast. Thin, fast wings have a much different stall characteristic than big, thick cambered wings (like your Cessna). Cambered wings' stall curve tends to be very well defined...increasing AOA results in increased lift until near stall, then you get buffet, and then pitch down as the wing hits max Cl. Thin, fast wings on the other hand have a much flatter Cl curve, and start buffeting very early. Also, there tends to not be a definite nose drop, just increasing buffet, and increasing sink rate. This characteristic killed a lot of early pilots who normally expected a nose drop and never got it. So, with that being said, the SFP1/WOV/WOE seem to feel 'ok' to me...but remember, that TK programmed the engine probably for docile behavior at the limits...get 95% of the feel correct, because the majority of his customers won't be concerned with the other 5% of the envelope. I love the Bronco but...FastCargo replied to tw7222's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion That's the problem with computer generated single missions...it'll give you loadout capabilities a campaign wouldn't because you can limit the weapons a squadron gets assigned in a campaign or a single mission built with the editor. Make sure the card can support two monitors that way (DVI AND VGA). Sometimes it can be an OR. My laptop has a DVI and VGA out, but only can use one at a time (because the other 'port' is the laptop screen). Also, be careful getting a DVI/VGA cable. Because there are different variants of DVI, and I THINK the variant of DVI that normally comes out of a computer is different than the standard A/V DVI that most stores assume you have if you buy a generic DVI/VGA cable...you could get hosed. It won't break anything, just won't work. FastCargo
