  2. I was stunned when I heard this. Such a shame...
  3. Put a hunk of metal in the nose of an ICBM instead of a warhead...voila!
  4. I go to most of them. I get my news Rashomon-style, get all the different takes and build your own picture from that.
  5. My mother-in-law is pretty bad about it. She's an old NYC Jew and is the typical hypocrite with some black friends who are "different". However, she talks about Democrats almost the same way, so I get the feeling that to her black = Democrat. I just don't care. I DO have an "irritation" if you will against Hispanics, but that mostly centers on their unwillingness to speak English after taking up permanent residence in the US (legally or illegally). A language is NOT "your culture." You want to speak it at home, fine. You want to speak it at work? No. A majority of them DO understand English but simply refuse to speak it and also pretend they don't understand it. THAT makes me mad. It almost seems to be a xenophobia with them. My wife went to lunch with one years ago who confessed to feeling "uncomfortable" and thinking "everyone is looking at me." Why? No one around them was speaking Spanish! THE HORROR! So, you're speaking English in an English-speaking country but you're uncomfortable because no one is speaking Spanish and want to run to the areas where no English is spoken? Florida is NOT North Cuba, no matter what they may want.
  6. I don't know much about the VA-class boats. I know they replaced the Seawolf class because those were too expensive, so I'm guessing these aren't quite as good, but are still better than the 688/LA class?
  7. Um...curly hairs on the rim of the glass?
  8. Of course, locally this is big news since they work on the JSTARS planes here and the tankers would likely get some of their avionics integrated here, too. If Boeing eventually gets it, all the locals get screwed.

    Layer?

And people say chivalry is dead! And they should.
  10. While they could trap on a US carrier (a hook is a hook), I'm not sure about the takeoff. They use ski jump and we use steam cats, and the tie down/nose gear changes aren't minor.
  11. Hamachi is the ONLY way I've ever gotten MP to work.
  12. LOL, it's always funny to me when I hear people talk about "paradise" when the description sounds pretty much like where I live in FL.
  13. For a second I'd thought you'd lost it and were declaring yourself an S-2!
  14. I've read through this thread twice and I STILL can't figure out what it is the argument is apparently about?
  15. I do understand where Boeing is coming from. If you're told you'll be judged by a certain set of conditions but are actually judged by a DIFFERENT set of conditions (which is all the GAO really seems to have said--that there was inconsistency), that's not really on the up-and-up. As far as which tanker is actually the better way to go, I won't say, I leave that as an exercise for the student.
  16. I didn't know the game featured deception jamming. Pretty much every flight sim I can think of has represented noise jamming only.
  17. Nice pic, but not true to life. If that F-15 starts his engines, the other plane gets its wingtip right in the efflux. If it moves first, you have to move it creatively to avoid hitting the F-15!
  18. Of course, when the world ends in 2011 we'll all realize the Mayans weren't really that great at math.
  19. Heh, an AGM-65 on a Raptor. Using a $140m fighter to attack a target worth a few hundred grand isn't really cost effective. Besides, that would really expose the Raptor to visually guided ground fire.
  20. I recall that's one of the main things the USN liked about the Super Bug over the old Hornet--the bring back capacity. The old Hornet is very limited in how much it can still be carrying when it traps. Something like 4 missiles and 2 500lb bombs max, I forget the exact numbers. So if it takes off with more than that, it either has to use them or lose them before the trap, which gets expensive during lulls in combat. The Super Bug in contrast can trap with a larger percentage of its takeoff payload, meaning more cost-effective use of weaponry.
  21. 2012 is the next Roland Emmerich movie, due out in a couple of years. Yes, it's about the end of the world. Again. Because one director can't make a film with that plot too many times.
  22. No, that's the other end. When a MRV separates in orbit and re-enters for impact, each separate warhead takes a slightly different path. This is a test of the entire system using inert warheads (no radioactive materials or explosive to go "boom") showing the impact site in the ocean. It's a time lapse photo so it looks like lasers or launches but it's really all of the re-entry trails superimposed together.
  23. I don't know, we've had some allies and countrymen's hearts bleed pretty profusely...
  24. Dornier has made some ugly planes, you can't deny that.
