Also I think sometimes the canards are directing airflow onto the wings behind them to prevent accelerated stalls and create vortices and so on. They're quite small on the Typhoon compared to say the Viggen and their overall lift is minor.

Let's face it--the under-25 American Internet community tends to be a bunch of jerks. Makes me wish sometimes you needed a license to get on the net. Of course, you don't need one to have kids, and you know some people shouldn't be parents, so...

Mirage 2000 refueling from a KC-130?
JediMaster replied to F-14AR's topic in Military and General Aviation
I'm surprised they never attached a couple of small jets to the KC-130s for those instances, like they used to do on the others in the past. -
I was considering it, but I haven't had the chance to hear any tracks yet.

At least it's not a Quickshot.

Unguided rockets should be called "go anywhere but the target" rockets. -
Yes, it's ok that you kill people as a criminal and blow stuff up for random purposes but WATCH OUT you might see some skin?? Sorry, that doesn't fly. Killing is evil, a person not wearing clothes is not.

I've never flown in a military plane, only civilian, and to a one they've all bored me. I've been in jets, props, and helos (both piston and turbine, and even one EC with a shrouded tail rotor), but I get more thrill from watching a Harrier or Hornet or Eagle landing at the base here!

Mirage 2000 refueling from a KC-130?
JediMaster replied to F-14AR's topic in Military and General Aviation
Being a delta, you'd expect the 2000 to have a higher stall speed than a Hornet. However, it's also FBW so I'd think as long as the 130 is going as fast as it can there shouldn't be a problem. Not like the old days when the USAF still used KB-50s to refuel jets requiring the 50s to go into power dives to keep above the jets' stall speeds! -
F-15 = early 4th gen fighter Su-30 = late 4th gen fighter You'd hope it would present a problem for the F-15 at this point! However, it certainly isn't going to walk all over it, just as the F-15 won't walk all over the Flanker.

Well, while the range of the 120D can be considered a better missile than the 54 despite its lesser range, the point is the Super Hornet also has less range than an F-14, thereby decreasing the maximum unrefueled intercept distance from a CBG. Of course, fleet defense is not the same today as it was in the 70s and 80s, so the USN seems comfortable with the reduction in range. The NATF was cancelled because of how much it was going to cost the USN. It was decided the new Super Hornet could do most of that mission, replacing the F-14 that is, for a fraction of the price, and they were getting them to replace the A-6E anyway. The AESA radar it has is far superior to the F-14's anyway for sheer versatility, if not range (which is classified). The original F/A-18A was never a stopgap, it was planned as what it turned out to be--the replacement for a variety of planes including the A-7 that could do both AA and AG combat in one sortie, as was proved in the Gulf War in 1991. The biggest stopgap in service right now is the B-1B, with a mere 100 bought as it was only to serve until the ATB nee B-2 came into service. However, instead of 132 B-2s, we only bought 21, so the stopgap is now the numerically most significant strategic asset. Oddly the B-52 is still in 2nd place in terms of numbers, and won't be going away anytime soon.

I think peter01's revised FM .ini's are about it as far as stock planes go. Other than that, grab the multitude of 3rd party planes out there and you'll see they generally are less forgiving about that stuff than TK's work as they're more concerned with realism than the playability that TK strives for.

Well, for one I think they're betting on existing owners of CFS3. I paid full price for CFS3--when it came out in what, 2003? That was 5 years ago! I also paid for Firepower a few years ago. I admit I've barely touched CFS3 for over 2 years since the guy I flew coop with lost his CD and couldn't reinstall, but I still have it on my HD. Come to think of it, I have MAW DLd but I've yet to install THAT...a project for a rainy day I guess. Anyway, $50 is what I've spent on the 2 First Eagles releases, while I got all the extras for them for free. Ironnically this looks to have more in it than FE does on install, so I don't think the price is out there. Only the need to own CFS3 already is an issue. If they could get their hands on some copies of CFS3 dirt cheap they could bundle with OFF that likely would help them, yes. Oh, anyone who thinks you don't need competition and advancement--just look how much CFS3 still is almost FIVE years after release. Good old MS, won't drop the price on anything if there's no replacement.

F1 reaches new video game licensing deal
JediMaster replied to FOTF's topic in Racing Simulations General Discussions
Yeah, that new GRID or whatever is coming to PC this year. That's a refreshing change, anyway. I was quite ticked at the Sony deal. Hard to believe there hasn't be a PC F1 sim since 2003's F1C, not counting mods for rfactor and the like. -
True no real CD successor has come, but I have several albums with DVDs with the songs in 5.1 for listening on the home theater setup and they are incredible!

Generally speaking, the release of a payware model doesn't preclude the release of a freeware one. Usually the other direction is the same unless the freeware one is better than the one that would be payware!
-
I'll wait until I hear the consensus is it will make things better without screwing things up before I bother. For now, SP2 is fine.

Iran reportedly got more kills with the 54 than the USN ever did, albeit still not that many. That was due more to maintenance troubles, though.

I have a DVR, but I still have to set it. Hard to do more than 2-3 days in advance because it hasn't grabbed the schedule for it yet. In HD yet!! -
The real question is will it be the X-32 or the F-32 Boeing would've made had it won (with separate tail, not a delta like the X version)? Anyway, will the F-29 have wingtip missile rails Dels? Or only underwing/fuselage?
