  1. Ah, so the RAF didn't turn theirs on after all. I hardly see the value in exercises with someone you can't consider "friend" enough to use your planes to even close to their real abilities. I'm surprised they all didn't just run around the airbase with their arms out going "whoosh!" so that the other side didn't find out what their planes can do flight-wise.
  2. Over "20"? That number IS insignificant, especially spread out over that area. If it was 20+ in a single spot, heading for a NATO exercise or something, that would be. If it was closer to 100 planes, it would be.
  3. That's what always gets me, be it a SAM or AAM...the first one you can defeat, but if that second one is just the right distance (not so far out you have time to reset your position or so close you jink both at once) it will hit you within seconds of you outwitting #1.
  4. If I had the time, I would. For now, Dangerous Waters is all the sub fix I have time for. I played a ton of Aces of the Deep a decade ago, but I just don't have as much time to devote anymore!
  5. Ok, there's a slight difference between a game and a movie--I only spend 2 hours watching the movie, I spend a LOT of hours on a given sim. In fact, of those 4 I've barely touched GTL. Less than 10 hours total since I got it...18 months ago? rFactor has had the most time, followed by GPL (over the decade I've had it), then GTR2. My older sims like F1C, NSR, and NR 2003 aren't even installed because of time!
  6. It wasn't until WWII that 4-bladed props became standard, and not the beginning of the war either. Many planes known for 4 or 5 blades late-war had only 3 early war.
  7. While the average teen couldn't hack it, I'm sure there are some who could, assuming they had the physical build for it of course. I will admit I don't get WHY they are teens. It does make a line like "someone she never expected to see in her whole career as an T.M pilot" a bit comical, though...just how long has that career been anyway?
  8. Thanks for reminding me I have to eat with the in-laws tonight!! UGH!
  9. I think the last helo sim that let you do transport missions was Longbow 2 (I don't count Whirlwind, it's an unfinished mess). EECH is probably the best released THIS century, with EE2 being a "remake" of sorts that needs patching but has yet to get any.
  10. Likewise I work for the USAF and I don't get to dictate when I work.
  11. SWEET! I'm thinking TK's next patch for WOE will be out by then as well, and I don't know if it will "break" NF1 and 2, but hopefully NF3 will have whatever alterations are needed to "fix" them.
  12. He's one of the many early modders that are sorely missed. LvP is another one, off the top of my head.
  13. From what I've heard, your experience is not unusual, unfortunately. This game was released in more or less a beta-state, only with so many features missing I'd almost call it an alpha!
  14. I've not touched a copy of NFS since...whatever title before the Porsche-dedicated one! I always meant to get that one, too, but didn't get around to it.
  15. I've DL'd this but haven't tried it yet. However, between rF, GTR2, GPL, and GTL, I don't know if I need another racing sim.
  16. Don't know. The one thread I saw later had the pics pulled, probably because the pics were technically still under NDA even though it was cancelled.
  17. I find angle seems less important than speed. The faster you go, the flatter the trajectory, and the closer to the target you'll be. Of course, it makes pulling up harder, but you don't fly those planes to be safe!
  18. Which in the case of warbirds is often at least as much or more than the initial purchase price.
  19. When someone on SimHQ I think interviewed the ACES team about MSFS he asked about a new CFS. Word was "no plans at this time." Shame, really. The shots I saw of the canceled CFS4 were very good.
  20. After that one, I was wondering if the Russians were going to stick AAMs on a Bear.
  21. If only the engines had been strong enough to actually make the plane combat-capable.
  22. FWIW, very little is being done as far as flight testing out of there nowadays. The place is too high-profile (ironically) and easily watched. I hear all that stuff is being done out of Utah now.
  23. Second time? Bah, I've read RSR at least 4 times! Anyway, having the resources to fly a few bombers around is a far different matter than being able to field a combat-ready wing.
  24. Exercises are exercises.
  25. Well, another issue that may later come to light is that some of the personnel WERE aware and reported it and were ignored. If so, I would think those lower echelon people would be excused while the ones in charge will suffer even more.
