6. Guitar Hero II (Xbox 360)
5. Rock Band (Xbox 360)
4. Spy Hunter (NES)
3. Battlezone (Atari 2600)
2. Gauntlet (NES)
1. Defender (Atari 2600)
The top 5, IMHO have forever changed the face of gaming. Rock Band is something that is incredibly simply, yet so fun for the whole family, much like the Wii. I play this with the kids all the time....they always want me to sing though since I already now the words to all the classic rock hits.
Spyhunter was simply a game that I loved to play for the music. I thought it's use of music was well done and it goes to show you how effective music can be while gaming. The COD series has blown me away with their musical scores.
Battlezone introduced the 3rd dimension to gaming....what a breakthru that was.
Gauntlet too the pnp gaming (Pen and Paper) and but it on the NES and was a precourser to games like WoW. However, one may certainly argue that there were Role PLaying video games out before Gauntlet....like Wizardy and Zork, but Gauntlet really broke the mold with multiplayer abilities.
Defender....one of the first "Flight" Sims that sucked up all my lunch money while traveling home from school....when I finally got an Atari 2600, my local vid store went backrupt. Love this game...
