Definitely the skin the community has been waiting for since the Crusaders were released... VMF-215 'Fighting Corsairs' Nah, seriously, I had nothing else to do, found this drawing in Gaetan Marie's Scratchbook...and thought that this could be done in an hour or so. Of course it took me more than an hour (stupid tailcode) and as you can see from the pic, I still have to do the inidividual aircraft and serial numbers. VMF-215 was a Marine reserve unit that actually flew F-8As...which aren't available. Thus I'm going to do this skin for the F-8D, but it will have F-8A BuNos.

Indeed. ATTACK aircraft are usually only active in offensive campaigns (that is when your side is on the offensive) Even then their flights will be outnumbered by those that are tasked with ESCORT or SWEEP missions. BOMBERs are even less active. That's my observation based on several campaigns I have created and played.

I would say it's the Aardvark, probably the F-111F. -

They're definitely British, so I would say it's a Challenger...1. -
That depends on what you would understand under "tweaking". Creating an .ini mod (remove the Hispano cannons and the two inner .303 MGs, insert a 57mm, etc.) shouldn't be much of a problem, that could be done in five minutes. Of course, it would still look like the regular FB VI. A redesigned FB VI, well, I wouldn't count on it.

LOL! EADS would need at least a decade to come with a prototype for such an aircraft and in the end the completed design would cost twice as much as initally planned and would still have only half of the projected capabilities. Seriously.

Stock F-15 in Wings Over Israel
Gocad replied to Spinners's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for the clarification, Crusader. -
I hope you don't mind that I quote only the part I consider to be most important here. It's true that TK has incorporated some features that are actually not used by the stock sims (Stealth, Thrust vectoring, etc.), but something tells me that it might not be as easy to incorporate everything you would like to see in-game. I do understand that you might be disapponited that TK hasn't done anything about it, but I do think that he has his reasons for not doing it. Don't get me wrong, I would really like to see some decent anti-ship operations, complete carrier groups with work air defenses, etc. but apparently it's not a high priority for him and considering that TK works on these sims basically alone I can understand that he can't fulfill everyone's desires regarding game features.

Oh, what a surprise! Wink, wink. -
Modern weapons are, that is at least my opinion, boring. You select a target, than a weapon and press fire. It takes no skill at all. Be honest, one aspect that really separates SFP/WOV/WOE/WOI from every other combat sim is that it covers a timeframe (1960s-1970s) that has been mostly ignored by other combat sims. Every other combat sim is either centered around WWII (might as well include WWI and Korean War sims here also) or a fictional contemporary scenario, which feature the latest weapons and aircraft. TK's sims deviate from this and that's why I like them. Not to mention that those other scenarios I mentioned above have been done to death anyway. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the efforts of all the talented modders out there that strive to incorporate the latest aircraft and weapons into TK's sims, but I do not share your opinion that the lack of proper (A.I.) support for modern weapons is a major flaw of these sims.

Perhaps you should turn those readmes into comics... It seemed to work for the M16. -

Why don't you try to explain exactly what prevents you from using the cat extractor? Either that or learn to use the other radar modes. -

What should that achieve? Other than creating a lot of chaos, of course. -

Just out of curiosity, is the WOI F-15 model the same as in WOE? -

VFP-63 "Fightertown" skin for the Mirage Factory F-8J ------------------------------------------------------------- Making this skin would not have been possible without the work done by the Gunfighters team and the Mirage Factory or without Column5's fantastic template. Thanks a lot, guys! Installation instructions -------------------------- Extract the contents of the rar file named 'FT_2' into a TEMP folder. Read the text file for further instructions. Legal stuff ------------ 1. The work may not be used in payware projects or in projects that will not be freely distributed under these same terms. 2. You must give proper credit in your readme file. 3. If feasible, include the original readme along with your new mod. Gocad -

Yeah, nice....and I guess that's all you can say about it.

@Wolf65: It's for the MF F-8E. Actually this particular skin belongs to the F-8J, but I think it wouldn't make much sense to release a skin for aircraft that hasn't been released yet...although I'm quite confident that this skin will work with the F-8J as well. I guess I'm saying nothing wrong when I tell you that the MF guys know about it and seem to have done something about it. (Hint: Search for the F-8J pic USAFMTL posted a few pages ago) But you can't change the shape of the sidewinder rails via an .ini fix, since it's a model issue.

*BUMP* I have returned to the jet age! I begun working on this skin over a month ago, but back then I did encounter some problems getting it right and I stopped working on it. But now I have figured out what I had to do to fix it. I guess it's done in two weeks days a few hours, all that needs to be done is to recolor some decals and paint the right side of the tailfin. This skin might be nice for some sort of Top Gun campaign...

Did it ever occur to you that some of the pics posted in this thread might feature WiP stuff?
