Need help finding an aircraft's history
Viggen replied to Viggen's topic in Military and General Aviation
Almost annoyingly, typing it that way instead of "EA-6B 161880" was giving me new results. Thanks to one page I was able to find the delivery date, 9/23/84. I haven't been able to find anything about its first ten years of service or if it was a Gulf War vet (I suppose I could check in the ODS Mod's Prowler for that!). Seems like it flew in the various VMAQs in the mid 1990s through mid 2000s. When I was it in 2006, it was assigned to VMAQ-4. Most pictures of it are from when it was the CAG for VAQ-129. @Wrench I've never used that website before, but it looks like a great source. Thanks! -
I've spent a few hours today trying to find the career for a specific EA-6B Prowler, BuNo 161880. Why this aircraft? Well, the Prowler's always been one of my favorite aircraft and this was the only one I ever saw, at an airshow in 2006 where a young me might have tried to rotate the ram air turbine on an ALQ-99. Anyway, I was wondering if someone might have better luck finding a squadron by squadron history and ultimate disposition of this aircraft? The Prowler's airframe by airframe history seems much less well documented than say, an F-4 or F-14's. Thanks! EDIT: Finding the histories of specific aircraft I've seen on display at airshows or museums is something I've been doing to help pass the time while covid's being going on.

Personally I don't see Pakistan committing any forces to the aid of Paran. Not only is Pakistan still considered a major non-NATO ally to the US, they still have their rival next door to consider. And Bangladesh, they have what, maybe 40 combat aircraft total? A bit unrealistic even for a what if campaign to consider them. I don't think Iran would volunteer that much of their air power either. Just my two cents. I like the idea though. Speaking of Iran, don't forget that Spinners uploaded a lovely Parani Saeqeh.

Decided to give the Foxbat a try. I'm too close for missiles switching to...ah crap I forgot there's no gun! -

@Menrva Cool, glad to have helped. I noticed the same issue at Ali Al-Salem a few hours after I made that post. I don’t think I would have known had the Iraqis not redeployed a squadron of MiG-21s to it during the campaign.

It's probably got to do with the game engine, but I noticed the parked aircraft at Ali Al-Salem were all in the dirt. Certainly not a game breaking issue, just thought I'd mention it. Only thing I've seen. EDIT: Might have been Al-Jaber. I'll see if I can replicate it. EDIT 2: Can confirm it's at Al-Jaber.

Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary Edition
Viggen reviewed Menrva's file in User Made Campaigns
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Once again the standard by which an all inclusive campaign should be held to has increased. I've played the Third Wire games for something close to fifteen years on and off now, and the Operation Desert Storm campaigns have always been among my favorite. This edition, released in commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of Operation Desert Storm is incredibly detailed and includes many new aircraft and details. The new campaign featuring the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait is a fun challenge, one I don't expect my pilot to survive! I had been toying with the idea of returning to playing SF2 for a few months now, and this mod has made me feel like I did in 2006 the first time I picked up Wings Over Europe. To the Operation Desert Storm mod team and CombatAce staff, I thank you. Be proud of your amazing work!- 50 comments

Ok, the content of the goodies folder is well worth the dive into while the mod installs. I'm excited to try out the defense of Kuwait campaign!

This looks super impressive! Congratulations to the whole team. Also a good use of the subscription service, it'll remind idiots like me to renew! -
Talk about a week. On Monday my grandfather went to the hospital because of his covid case. But that stubborn old man's condition has improved and he's being released.

WIP Mega THREAD!
Viggen replied to ErikGen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
This might not be the place to say it, but I just want to thank the modders for all the things they still do for this game. -
My grandfather tested positive for it on Friday. He's been doing well, but I'm staying realistic here.

After it's had a full track and balance, drain and flush, lube, and torque checks completed, sure.

Speaking as someone who went through basic in 2012, I didn't see any classic day one shark attacks, then again I was too busy getting the shit smoked out of me to notice if it happened to anyone! But, I will attest to the creativity of some NCOs for resolving fuck ups in a garrison or deployment environment, all of which are a better alternative to having it go on paper.
