Ship problem...
Fubar512 replied to pcpilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What's this "we" stuff? Dave, Crusader, and myself have been getting walloped.... -
From a Bond-centric website "The Bond of Ian Fleming's novels – widely held to be a romanticised projection of Fleming himself – was a violent, sardonic man of a dry humour and formidable appetites. "I hate small portions of anything," he once declared. He particularly likes scrambled eggs, which he will eat at any time of day, and – until recently – he liked smoking. In Ian Fleming's novels, he smokes 60 untipped, oval-profile cigarettes a day – a blend of Balkan and Turkish tobaccos mixed specially for him by Morland's. In recent years, he seems to have given up. He's particular about his drinks – insisting that they be "very large and very strong and very cold, and very well-made". His stipulation that his martinis be "shaken, not stirred" is controversial among connoisseurs of the tipple (it results in a cold, but unacceptably dilute drink). He has been known to drink both gin and vodka martinis – though for reasons of product placement, recent films have seen him favour vodka. Bond's romantic appetites, like those of his creator, are marked by a streak of sexual cruelty. Rosamond Lehman speculated that Fleming "gets off with women because he cannot get on with them"; his fictional alter-ego had a highly questionable attitude to sexual violence, noting of the first ever Bond girl, Vesper Lynd, that "the conquest of her body, because of the central privacy in her, would each time have the sweet tang of rape". Bond's sexual tomcattery didn't preclude more serious attachments, though. In Casino Royale he contemplated leaving the service to be with beautiful, troubled Vesper Lynd; a course of action thwarted by her suicide. "The bitch is dead now," he reports, sentimentally. In On Her Majesty's Secret Service he went as far as to get married to beautiful, troubled Countess Teresa "Tracy" di Vicenzo – a union, again, thwarted by her death, this time in a drive-by shooting."

The first two Moore films were not the out-of-control gadget fests that the next two were, but they did not fare well at the box office. A survey performed by Eon Productions in late 1975, showed that Bond fans wanted to see "more action and gadgets", and "The Spy Who Loved Me" was the result. It did very well, especially when one takes into account that (at the time) it was competing with Star Wars for ticket sales. With MoonRaker, it appeared that Eon adhered to the principle of "If a little action & gadgetry is good, then a lot more of the same must be great!". It tanked....and Eon went back to basics with "For Your Eyes Only", which was probably the best of the Moore films, though Moore seemed a bit out of his element, attempting to portray Bond in a manner that was more suited to Connery, or even Lazenby.

adding sounds to the game
Fubar512 replied to coolpilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
These lines were added with SP5, and you'll find them in the aircraftobject.ini file, which must be extracted from the objectdata.cat: [WindSoundOpen] MinSpeed=25.0 MinVolume=10 MinVolumeSpeed=25.0 MaxVolume=100 MaxVolumeSpeed=100.0 MinFreq=0.8 MinFreqSpeed=25.0 MaxFreq=1.6 MaxFreqSpeed=300.0 [WindSoundClosed] MinSpeed=100.0 MinVolume=0 MinVolumeSpeed=100.0<-----approx 200 kias (change to 295) MaxVolume=80 MaxVolumeSpeed=300.0<----apprx Mach 1 MinFreq=0.8 MinFreqSpeed=100.0 MaxFreq=1.6 MaxFreqSpeed=300.0 Make sure that you edit the windloop so it does not, errrrr...loop You can accomplish that by editing its soundlist.ini entry. You'll find that in the flightdata.cat -
adding sounds to the game
Fubar512 replied to coolpilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sounds for this series must be in a monoaural.wav format, so yes, you'll have to convert your MP3 to a .wav file. Also, sounds are tied to specific events that are hard-coded into the game-engine. As such, there is no event for an external sonic-boom, though you may want to look at the data entries for open-cockpits, specifically (hint), when the windloop begins and ends.... -
A true loss. I've just finished reading 'State of Fear' a few weeks ago.

Personally, I feel that the Brosnan films were quite tacky....not quite as bad as some of the Moore films, but certainly not up to the standards of the first two Connery films. Danial Craig's Bond breathes new life into the series.

B-2 and F-117

You didn't really kill the language...I mean, it wasn't that bad..... -
You mean you want them to slow down, to release Bond movies at the same pace they did back in the 1960s? Dr. No = 1962. From Russia with Love = 1963. Goldfinger = 1964 Thunderball = 1965

SHADOW PROBLEMS
Fubar512 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
What video card are you using....a Radeon? That issue was prevelant with older ATI drivers. -
The bitmap used by the fuel tank is called out in its .lod file. You have two choices: 1) create a new skin to match the aircraft's, rename it, and then live with the fact that the same tank texture will be used with ALL your other skin textures for that aircraft. 2) create a new skin, name it anything you want, other than the name used on an existing texture, copy and rename the tank.lod to whatever you like, make a new entry for it in the weapondata.ini that matches the new name, and finally, using a hex-editor, edit the bitmap callouts to match your new texture name. Of course, choice #2 requires that you proceed carefully, and having a little knowledge and previous experience doing this, is advisable.

Falkland 1982
Fubar512 replied to jaeger_301's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The "tiles" aren't missing. What would be required is for someone to create a flat, horizontal .lod with a corresponding bitmap or tga, to simulate the connecting service paths to and from the launchers, radars, and service/command vehicles. The latter two types would have to be added. Kesselbrut already has SA-2s mounted on transport trailers, so we could use those. -

NetworkType=AAA as would the Firecan. You can sub using the Barlock by adding the appropriate lines to its data.ini. And, all the fixed SAM sites in a default install are already in a 'Star-of-David' deployment. -
Clean Exhaust Emitter
Fubar512 replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No, it does not exist as a default emitter. All that using a non-existent emitter will do is give you no effect whatsoever. The available default emitters are: CleanExuastEmitter, DirtyExhaustEmitter, and HarrierExhaustEmitter. -
If you understand how pulse Doppler radar works, it is less likely to be flummoxed by a maneuver like that, then conventional radar. All it would do at range, is significantly increase the target's RCS for the duration of the maneuver, and rob the aircraft of precious airspeed that it needs to maneuver. The Cobra maneuver in of itself is overrated, and is of dubious value in a combat engagement. The ability of an aircraft to bypass its alpha limiters and maintain controlled flight while engaged in a close-quarters lag pursuit, however, is advantageous. In theory, a pilot can momentarily pull lead and hose his opponent, almost at will.

Single mission airbases
Fubar512 replied to Wilches's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
System-generated single missions will pick airfields at random, as long as they meet the runway-length and mission radius criteria for the specific aircraft and mission type that one chooses. Campaigns are different, as the author can specify where to begin the campaign from, as one does in a user-created (scripted) mission. -
Mobile SAMs Firing?
Fubar512 replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Mobile_SAM as a ground object role does not work. Reclassify them as Mobile_AAA, and they'll work just fine. -
This Can't be good.....
Fubar512 replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The only reason that would happen, is if you specified an attachment type. For SAMs, that box should be left unchecked in the weapons editor. -

Well, stealth now appears to be working the way it's supposed to. I've just set the F-117's RCS to a real-world value, and overflew SA-2 & SA-6 batteries with no detection, but got picked up at close range by an SA-10, and was promptly shot down for my efforts. -

Fubar512 replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm using the SF desert terrain set (in WoE). I've added SAM batteries on three of the offshore islands, and they can "see" you down to 500 feet 10 nm out, and out to 40-60 miles at altitude. The farthest the SA-10 has engaged me, was at 47 nm. What sucks, is that the SA-10 radar will steer missiles down at you. I've made one concession for gameplay's sake, and that was to allow the missiles to show a contrail, even after sustainer burn-out, so you can spot them as they approach and hopefully outmaneuver them. One of the beta testers lost his entire flight of 8 in just a few minutes. Dave, OTH, is a firm believer in scorched earth policy, and launches nuke-tipped ARMs at them outside of the SAM battery's engagement envelope
