  1. Phantom FGR.5 - RAF Near East Air Force

    McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.5 - Royal Air Force Near East Air Force STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
    Two simple modded skins for you to add to my McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.5 to place it in service with RAF Near East Command in the 1970's.
    This should work in all of Third Wire Series One games as it uses the ubiquitous F-4E.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Drag and drop the skin folders into your Phantom FGR.5 folder.
    The decals are contained within the skin folder but it is essential that you have my FGR.5 installed to get the common decals (national markings and serial numbers).

  2. [Fictional] Saab-Hawker Draken F.2A

    Saab Draken F.2A for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a 'what if' Saab Draken F.2A with markings for No.23 and No.25 squadrons of the Royal Air Force as they might of appeared in the 1980's towards the end of their career.
    I've used the excellent Draken J35D 'David' from the Draken pack uploaded at CombatACE by lindr2 to create this 'what if' RAF Draken but heartily recommend the Draken pack which has no less than 8 Drakens and is a superb effort by all concerned. For this revised upload I've made a simple grey skin and decals to create these RAF Drakens as they might have looked towards the end of their lives. I've used 1978 to 1991 as the 'in service' years, basically to utilise the British Skyflash missile and I've also tweaked the data.ini and also the loadout.ini to give RAF loadouts.
    The Draken itself was an amazing achievement and has a similar WOW factor to the contempory 'Century Series' of fighters - you just cannot believe it first flew in 1955... it just looks so cool! As much as I love the English
    Electric Lightning you must remember that the Draken had half the power but effectively did the same job plus another half-a-dozen! In addition, it cost dramatically less and it certainly required a fraction of the maintenance man hours!
    Suggested further reading - Saab Draken (chapter) 'Early Supersonic Fighters of the West' (Bill Gunston)

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Draken_F2A folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Draken_F2A folder into your main Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the TANK_DRAKEN_F2A folder into your Weapons folder.

    CREDITS
    I've lifted these credits from the Draken pack but if I've unwittingly left anyone out then please accept my apology and do not hesitate to contact me to allow me to amend this package.

  3. [Fictional] North American Shark FGA.1 (RAF F-100D)

    North American Shark FGA.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-100D to give a fictional North American Shark FGA.1 (I guess the RAF didn't fancy the 'Super Sabre' name) with markings for No.33, No.45 and No.58 squadrons of RAF Middle East Command.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the SharkFGA1 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the SharkFGA1 folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the two files into your Weapons folder.

  4. RAF Phantom FG.2 (No.38 Group)

    McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
    This is a simple mod of the stock Phantom F-4B to give a 'what if' J79 powered Phantom FG.2 tactical fighter with markings for No.6, No.41 and No.54 squadrons of No.38 Group of RAF Strike Command as they might have appeared in the late 1960's but I've also included some two-colour B-type markings for you to play around with.
    In theory, this should work in any 'first generation' game that has the standard F-4B LOD's. As SFG and WOV does not have the RAF Letter codes I've made some of my own in yellow and white and included them here to help avoid bare fins although there's plenty going on in fin land.

    BACKSTORY
    The successful first flight of the McDonnell XF4H-1 (Phantom II) on May 27th, 1958 certainly piqued the interest of both the RAF and the Royal Navy and by 1959 both were granted official 'observer status' on the project. The realisation that only two of the Royal Navy's five aircraft carriers could operate an aircraft of the XF4H-1's size (and that only after extensive modernisation) soon cooled the interest of the Senior Service but the RAF could see a promising aircraft of obvious potential across many roles and not just in their search for a Hunter replacement. By 1960 McDonnell were scheming various tactical fighter versions of the F4H-1 Phantom II with J79 engines including a minimum change version of the baseline USN F-4B to replace the Hunter and Javelin in RAF service and supplement the Lightning.
    The RAF had already bore the brunt of the 1957 Defence White Paper and had then suffered the ignominy of losing the UK's nuclear deterent in the planned switch from V-Force to Polaris. Following this heavy perceived loss of status the Air Staff were so determined to get the TSR.2 that in March 1961 they volunteered to forsake the supersonic V/STOL P.1154 strike fighter and STOL AW.681 tactical transport and replace both with off the shelf purchases of American aircraft. Both projects were declared as "too technically challenging to succeed in the current fiscal situation" but the early cashing-in of both projects did ultimately save the TSR.2 which went on to survive the 1964 Budget Review and enter RAF service at the end of the 1960's.
    Meanwhile, back in August 1961 the UK Government became the first export customer for McDonnell's XF4H-1 with an order for 350 aircraft consisting of 150 interceptor-fighters for RAF Fighter Command and 200 tactical fighters for RAF Germany and No.38 Group. Designated by McDonnell as the F-4K and by the RAF as Phantom F.1 and Phantom FGA.2 the first F-4K rolled off the St. Louis production line in February 1963 with a ceremonial first flight on April 1st, 1963 to coincide with the RAF's 45th birthday celebrations. These early RAF Phantoms retained the AAA-4 infrared search and tracking sensor fitted to a prominent bulge underneath the radome housing the powerful AN/APQ-72 radar and were powered by two General Electric J79-GE-8A engines each rated at 10,000lbs dry thrust and 17,000 lbs thrust with afterburner.
    The Phantom FG.2 entered service with No.41 squadron at Coningsby in January 1966 and eventually equipped no less than ten RAF squadrons at home and abroad.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the PhantomFG2 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the PhantomFG2 into your Decals folder.

  5. Westland Whirlwind - Desert Camo No.6 Squadron

    This is a fictional Desert Camo scheme for the Westland Whirlwind recently released by Veltro2K with markings for the famous No.6 squadron ('The Flying Can-Openers') of the Royal Air Force. For SFP1/SFG/WOV/WOE/WOI just drop the folder called '6d' into your Whirlwind folder and go and open some cans! For SF2 users things are a bit more tricky but you probably know your way around the different file structure by now. BTW the Whirlwind flies really nicely in SF2 but make sure you've got your throttle to zero before you start!

    Anyway, many thanks to Veltro2K for this little gem and also to Syrinx for the template and for the serial number decals - to which I've added another two to make a baker's dozen plus I've knocked up some reasonably authentic squadron codes.

  6. Mig-29 Centreline Fuel Tank for SF2

    This is for the new MiG-29 by The Mirage Factory and gives you the centreline tank.

    This might not have been the most elegant way of getting it to show but it works.

    In the data.ini find your centreline station (should be right at the top of the weapon stations) and amend the last line to read as follows;

    [CenterLine]
    SystemType=WEAPON_STATION
    StationID=1
    StationGroupID=1
    StationType=EXTERNAL
    AttachmentPosition=0,-2.900,0.04

  7. RAF Hunter F.5 for Strike Fighters 2

    This is a simple mod of the excellent Third Wire Hunter to give a flyable F.5 with markings for No.34 and No.56 squadrons of RAF Middle East Command based in Dhimar during the mid to late 1950's.

    Whilst both squadrons did actually operate the Hunter F.5 the markings for No.56 squadron are slightly 'generic' but the serial numbers are genuine enough. Two extra No.34 decals are included (34Patch and 34RoundelBars) if you prefer that squadron to have the same look as No.56 squadron and/or for you to use elsewhere.

  8. Dhimari Hunter FGA. Mark 61 (FGA.9) for SF1

    Hawker Hunter FGA.61 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
    This is a simple mod of the stock Hunter FGA.9 to give a 'what if' Hunter FGA.61 fighter with markings for No.1 and No.3 squadrons of the Dhimari Air Force.
    Please note that this mod is optimised for use in 'Wings Over Israel' and it will NOT work in 'Strike Fighters Gold' or 'Wings Over Vietnam' as neither game has the Hunter FGA.9 LOD's. It will work in 'Wings Over Europe' but you will not have the stock Arabic serial numbers appearing.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA61 folder into your Aircraft folder.

  9. Supermarine Siskin F.1 (Mystère IV - RAF)

    Supermarine Siskin F.1 for SF1 Wings Over Israel
    This is a simple mod of the excellent Third Wire Dassault Mystère IV to give a 'what if' Supermarine Siskin F.1 with markings for No.43, No.56 and No.63 squadrons of the Royal Air Force's Fighter Command during the mid-late 1950's era.
    It is essential that you have Wings Over Israel as this is the only 'Series One' game to have the Mystère IV LOD's.

    BACKSTORY
    The early-1950's was a difficult time for RAF Fighter Command. The obscolescent Meteor F.8 formed the mainstay of Fighter Command but it could barely catch the RAF's Canberra jet bombers and would have been hopelessly outclassed by MiG-15's if the Cold War had turned hot. But just at the time that Fighter Command should have been looking forward to receiving the modern swept-wing Hawker Hunter and Supermarine Swift fighters both programmes hit severe technical problems. especially the doomed Swift. Even before the decision to cancel the Swift fighter programme (taken in February 1955) the Air Ministry were looking for an 'off the shelf' purchase of an interim 'stop-gap' type and although the North American F-86 Sabre was procured in substantial numbers the desperately poor balance of payments situation with the US prevented further purchases.
    Dassault had previously offered the Mystère IIC to the UK Government and had been turned down. But in November 1952 an RAF evaluation team were sent to Istres to evaluate the Mystère IV and submitted an enthusiastic report to the Air Ministry who decided to place an order for 200 Mystère IV's to be licence-built by Supermarine Aviation with Rolls Royce Tay engines. Entering service in March 1955 as the Siskin F.1 this fine aircraft was used by RAF Fighter Command until the early 1960's with the subsequent Siskin FGA.2 fighter-bomber serving in RAF Far East Air Force until 1970.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Drop the SiskinF1 folder into your Aircraft folder.

  10. Supermarine Skylark F.1 (Super Mystère B2)

    Supermarine Skylark F.1 for SF1 Wings Over Israel
    This is a simple mod of the excellent Third Wire Dassault Super Mystère B2 to give a 'what if' Supermarine Skylark F.1 with markings for No.5, No.11, No.23 and No.29 squadrons of the Royal Air Force's Fighter Command during the late 1950's and early 1960's era.
    It is essential that you have Wings Over Israel as this is the only 'Series One' game to have the Mystère IV LOD's.

    BACKSTORY

    The adoption of the earlier Dassault Mystère IV (licence-built by Supermarine Aviation as the Siskin F.1) encouraged Dassault to offer the forthcoming Super Mystère to the UK Government to meet the RAF's requirement for a Venom replacement for overseas use. However, by mid-1955 the requirement had changed to that for a supersonic interceptor-fighter for RAF Fighter Command to supplement the Hunter F.6 and provide a lead-in to the Mach 2 English Electric Lightning.
    By this time the Super Mystère prototype had flown (initially powered by a Rolls Royce Avon RA.7R) and the successful early flight-testing gave the RAF the confidence to quickly draft an official Operational Requirement based around a Super Mystère powered by the proposed Avon RA.21R and armed with 2 x 30mm ADEN cannon. Supermarine were selected to licence-build the Super Mystère at South Marston as the Supermarine Skylark F.1 for RAF Fighter Command and with an initial order for 120 aircraft and soon supplemented with an order for 45 Skylark FR.2's for RAF Germany (carrying centreline Vinten camera pods).
    Whilst Dassault quickly moved on to the Mirage family of delta-winged fighters the Skylark was further developed by Supermarine as the FGA.3 fighter-bomber for the RAF and also exported to Finland, India and Saudi Arabia.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Drop the SkylarkF1 folder into your Aircraft folder.

  11. RAF B-1B 'Bone' Skin pack

    RAF B-1B 'Bone' Skin Pack
    This is a simple mod of the existing original release B-1B skins to give three 'what if' RAF skins. All I've done is add a bit of overspray to the tail fin, change the canopy glass to a cool blue tint and add some decals.
    This very minor update just places the decals in a 'D' folder in each skin to suit the SF1 format.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    Just drop the 3 skin folders into your B-1B folder.

  12. De Havilland Vampire FB.7

    de Havilland Vampire FB.7 for SF1
    This aircraft mod will create a 'what if' de havilland Vampire FB.7 with colourful post-war markings for No.6, No.8 and No.20 squadrons of the Royal Air Force.

    This is a revised upload that was originally for SF2 but mistakenly got left in the SF1 section when the big SF1/SF2 split happened and as I can't get SFG/WOX to work on my W10 desktop I've not been able to test it. I think I've got the reverse engineering right but the one thing I can't do is sort out the rockets and tanks (it's so much easier in SF2).

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Drop the Vampire_FB7 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    That's it!

  13. Hawker Hunter F.6 'Luftwaffe' for SF2:Europe

    This is a simple mod of the excellent Third Wire Hunter to give a flyable 'what if' Hawker Hunter F.6 of the West German Air Force with markings for JG71, JG72, JG73 and JG74 for the approximate late 1950's to late 1960's period.

    As it uses stock Luftwaffe serial numbers I think you really need the latest SF2:Europe but it should work in SF2 also as the F.6 LODs are in there too but you might not get the serial numbers.

    You can swap the skins and decals around to suit - have fun.

    This mod will only work with 'Wings Over Europe'. If you have 'Wings Over Israel' then it can be hacked into shape by a little bit of editing to point to the appropriate stock 'Baz' LOD's and files and also swapping the Skyflash missiles for Sparrows in the loadout.ini.

  19. Hawker Hunter F.5 For SF2 'Suez'

    This is a simple mod of the excellent Third Wire Hunter to give a flyable Hawker Hunter F.5 fighter-bomber with markings for No.1 and No.34 squadrons of the Royal Air Force in the mid-1950's period. Both squadrons were dispatched to Cyprus during the 1956 Suez Crisis and wore yellow and black 'invasion' stripes during that conflict. These stripes are reproduced here as decals so that they can easily be removed or you can move the fuselage stripes aft of the roundel to suit your taste as photographs exist showing both locations.

    1. Drop the Hunter_F5 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder.

    Do not just move the folder! You must empty the contents in.

    N.B. If you haven't got a Decals folder inside your Objects folder then simply move my Decals folder into your Objects folder.

    NOTES

    This Hunter F.5 is set up, just like the real thing, with just the two inner-wing weapons pylons.

    MARKINGS

    Both squadrons did actually operate the Hunter F.5 but the markings are slightly 'generic' although the serials are accurate.

    CREDITS

    BIG THANKS to TK for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.

    And special thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  21. [Fictional] RAAF RA-5C Vigilante

    North American A-5D Vigilante for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a simple mod of Julhelm's RA-5C to create a fictional A-5D Vigilante in service with the Royal Australian Air Force in the 1964-1989 timeline. Some of you might be aware that an Aussie Vigilante was seriously considered in the early 1960's as a replacement for the RAAF's outdated Canberra bombers but the Menzies government eventually chose the F-111C in October 1963.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the A-5D folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the A-5D folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the A-5D_FUEL folder into your Weapons folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
    As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
    Special thanks to Julhelm for bringing the awesome Vigilante to the SF universe!
    And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

    Please note that this updated package now requires you to have SF2 Expansion Pack 2 as the stock B-57B was revised (much nicer - check it out).

  23. [Fictional] Vought F-8EJ Crusader (JASDF)

    Vought F-8EJ Crusader for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:VIETNAM
    This is a simple mod of the stock Crusader F-8E to give a fictional F-8EJ in service with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) during the 1964 - 1985 timeline with markings for;

    203rd Hikotai (overall grey).
    302nd Hikotai (overall blue with sharkmouth).

    BACKSTORY
    After a long selection process the Vought F-8EJ was finally selected by the JASDF in 1962 as its standard interceptor-fighter. With it's impressive unrefuelled range, reliable Pratt & Whitney J-57-P-20J engine and powerful Magnavox APQ-94J radar the F-8EJ served with a total of eight JASDF squadrons with initial deliveries commencing in late 1964.
    Compared to the superb multi-role F-8E, and because of Japan's own 'self-defense' status and imposed peace treaty terms, the F-8EJ was stripped of much of it's surface-attack capability but gained a modified APQ-94 radar, wing-mounted AIM-7E Sparrow missiles and also had a very useful anti-ship capability (deemed acceptable as being an 'anti-invasion' capability) and all eight 'Hikotai' had maritime attack and reconnaissance as a secondary role. The F-8EJ's served until the mid-1980's with the 302nd Hikotai being the last to surrender this very popular aircraft in JASDF service in 1985.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-8EJ folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-8EJ folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!
