The Super Hornet really CAN do everything

When is the hornet that does the same job as the AC-130 coming out? -
To Drop External Tanks, or Not?
Rodent replied to Oswald Bastable's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just because it feels like it makes more sense I try to waste as little as possible, even if the game does not penalize me for being wasteful. If I take off with external tanks I try to land with them too. And I try to take a little bit extra care to not get into a situation where I will need to drop them, but if I know for certain I will need the manouverability or speed then I will drop them however. Wow I guess my post was not very helpful at all, but I had to post something because, well, I missed being here -
I think the video shows that not every mech will always explode. If you think about it, that Jenner was defeated without any such explosion. Also with the development of the game being back in the hands of the original creators I would hope they do not stick to the stupid automatic self destruct when the mech gets disabled. Holy crap has it been a long time since I posted on combatace. Where the heck have I been?

Instead of ejecting the pilot away from the plane, send the plane away from the pilot! If you need to eject on the ground then you would have to push the ground out of the way first though and we all know only Chuck Norris can do that.

I just can't keep away from YouTube comments. Sometimes I am more drawn to them than the videos. I am amused by stupidity I guess.

I actually still have that game and a working N64 to play it on I think it has been released on virtual console too but not sure how well it controls with a gamecube or classic controller though.

True, some games just go much better on a console. Like one on one fighting games just don't feel right on a PC even if you have a gamepad for it, and also true that the PC don't get a lot of final fantasy style roleplaying games. My previous comment did not mean to indicate that if you have a PC then the 360 and PS3 is uninteresting to everyone, I just mean that to me personally I have not seen a lot of games on those that I want enough to get the system. I play MMOs and shooters and sims on the PC, and I don't think either console do those genres all too well. I am all but allergic to dual analog shooters :P Racing games are fun too and I guess both the PS3 and 360 have some really good ones, but I get my racing fix on the PC too. I got no complaints about the graphics on the Wii, but then again I don't even have an HDTV

Just going to say that as primarily a PC gamer the Wii is the most attractive console to me. Both on the PS3 and XB360 most games that I find interesting I would have rather played on a PC. The games that I like on the Wii seem a better fit for the system. Out of the other two systems though I am more interested in an XB360 and have considered getting one now that it is cheap.

Unlimited Weapons?

No missles and no guns? You could always ram them and try to knock their wings off -

What aircraft you miss in game?
Rodent replied to vrkuboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I would like to see a Gripen NG somewhere down the road. It will probably have a different operational name though and I guess there really isn't anything much to make something out of yet, but I would like to see a single seat Gripen with the NG loadout options and other changes such as the main landing gear. Guess it would be called JAS-39E Gripen? -
Aerobatics kills
Rodent replied to scouserlad13's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I was in a Draken, chasing a mig-17. I was out of missiles, lined up for a gun kill, squeezed the trigger, and the gun jammed. I was a little bit frustrated at that time and somehow I thought it seemed a good idea to ram him. The next time he turned I turned inside his turn, slightly below him, and since my turn was not as tight as his I slammed into him. Went a little bit fast to see exactly what happened but I hit his left wing with what I think was the underside of my planes nose, about where the nose gear door is. The stress apparently broke his wing off at the base while my plane remained mostly intact. He spiraled to the ground with no left wing left at all and I returned to base with a small scratch in the paint. Not quite an aerobatic kill either I guess but in the spirit of the post above mine. *highfives Spinners* -

In Full Afterburner,Engine sounds quiet?
Rodent replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Within the aircraft, sound from behind the pilot can still reach the pilots ears. The pilots ears are not supersonic relative to the air inside the cockpit. Of course the engine is not within the cockpit but still most sound from the engine is transmitted through the body and should reach the cockpit. Faster than sound just means the plane is traveling faster than sound does in the air surrounding it, not that it travels faster than sound inside itself. -

Harpoon Missile
Rodent replied to FalconC45's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have noticed this being a problem with all anti ship missiles I have used. The missile strikes the position the ship was at when the missile was fired. A moving ship will just get out of the way. They do find the target as it heads straight for it even if your aircraft is pointing another way as long as you have it selected. This is the same for the harpoons, the RBS-15 and another but I forget wich one now. They fire and initially turn towards the ship and all looks fine, until you realize your missile is not tracking the movement and just hits the wake behind the ship. I have SFG and I never noticed it with the stock tanker but only when I added new ships. -
text messages - how to get rid of them ?
Rodent replied to ToS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I just tried this in SFG and while that does stop spoken messages to appear, such as "clear for takeoff" or "missile inbound" it still does not get rid of the "gear retracted" and "15 flares left" messages. -
Space Shuttles in TW sims
Rodent replied to Jarhead1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I actually thought the 900 gigaton would destroy the map and the option would be to fly into space to escape it, in the game. By far into space I did not mean you would have to go to another planet, but that even at the top of the atmosphere that blast might reach you. I just imagined a death star surface terrain for TW sims, and where the heck did that idea come from? Might have been the talk about planet killers.. I guess it might be difficult to make a flyable death star to scale if the engine does not really support space flight. Sounds kinda risky to try and fly the deathstar within the atmosphere too. Ok.. back to the space shuttle. In an all serious note this could be done in a serious and still interesting fashion as long as we don't expect to have the entire aspect of space flight, but rather stick to landing scenarios. Or perhaps an AI only vehicle. I wonder, would it be possible to model it to launch straight up instead of take off from a runway? Also booster separation might be tricky to get. I don't think you would need to worry about the tank separation though as that would happen when it is off the map already. -

That was the idea I think you would have to go pretty far into space to escape that one. -
