both for the general knowledge out there, and as a helluva what if, what if the Luftwaffe was reborn in 1948-9 time frame in response to the Berlin Blockade? in my mind's eye i see them being refitted with many of the late war German birds minus swastikas of course! however how quickly was the aircraaft inventory of germany smelted down? i know Wrench has a Luftwaffe Spitfire in his site for such a possibility but it would be quicker to get the pilots up to speed defending the homeland if they just had to get current again in their old mounts. FW190s for air support/tac strike, Me262 for air defense. would be interesting i would think! how about you guys?

EricJ in your Thud report you said you had a Mig on your tail for most of 14 minutes. in real life, if a Thud pilots bombs were gone and the mig was on his six, standard tactic was to open the throttle all the way. or as i heard it told, nothins faster than a scared Thud!!! also am i seeing the screenies right? is that a french mig v brit Thud?

think he meant the E style Phantoms Wrench. i believe it more to do with commonality (N's were revamped B's while S's are revamped J's) and institutional pride than mountings (not sure on wieght). the testbed for the gun nosed Phantom was RF-4C 62-1220 and the RF-4B was a RF-4C nose mated to F-4B airframe. the Marines had deployed RF-4Bs off of carriers. final part of my arguement is that max takeoff weight and "combat" wieght are around 1000 lbs more for the E than the S. could be taken care of by restricting use of the centerline station. just sayin........

of course history buffs, in 1954 the original spec for what would become the F-4B Phantom 2, called the AH1 called for a quartet of guns similar to the F-100. then as Ceasar said the thinking of the time said guns were obsolete and the specs got changed.

the japanese are always good for doin some sort of artwork on their birds. more prolific than Luftwaffe special schemes even.

look in the SF1 download section under Cold War aircraft. there is a whole section on the F-84. unless you posted in the Gen 1 forum in which case http://combatace.com/files/file/8775-sf2-f-84g-v12/ that will take care of it all IF you are running GEN 2/SF2.

first your link goes to a bit on Mig21 v F-4E comparison. 2 many factors come into play not just the factory specs of the planes in question. 3 i doubt the maintenece has kept up to keep their birds fully mission capable, many of the pilots are running rather than bombing their own people and if a no fly zone is kicked off, not many of their pilots will care to take off and test the air armada arrayed against them with planes tech and tactics at least a decade newer than what they have. the trouble they may have given the USN in 81(wich still resulted in USN 2 libya 0) was a result of faulty missles and ROE restrictions. when the rematch went down in 89 missles were more reliable and ROE relaxed (think they only had to light ther radars to be considered a threat in 89) so it wetn down smoother for our side. in short any air action over libya would provide them the oppurtunity to get rid of some old warplanes!
