  1. As a replacement for the ageing F-4s, the JASDF was looking for suitable alternatives. Several different types were taken into consideration, but the ministry of defense decided to take SU-30s and SU-35s. The diplomatic and economic relations between Japan and Russia also became positively influenced by this contract. The first planes were delivered in 2007 and started to replace the 'Kai' in the japanese air self defense forces. While the Takas did not receive special camos, two of the three hikotais receiving the SU-35 painted their planes in special camos. 4. Very well done! Big thanks.
  5. Strange. Can't you also see the other pics in the other threads I opened?

  6. During a joint maneuver including the USN, the JASDF and the JMSDF, the officers of the involved ships on japanese side had the chance to see the Tomcat in close action simulating dogfights with japanese fighters at the coast of Japan. The JASDF-pilots had the unique possibility to fly the Tomcat themselves against their american comrades in the F-15DJs. The evaluation of the maneuver showed, that the JASDF was more efficient using the F-14 than the F-15. Thinking of improving the protection of their coasts and waters, Japan took into consideration buying four Nimitz-Class Aircraft-Carriers using the F-14 as main fighter on them. After a hard and long period of diplomatic negotiations, Japan was allowed to buy the carriers (Possession of Aircraft-Carriers was forbidden after WWII), but the next diplomatic crisis was caused by the names the japanese ministry of defense choose for the vessels: Akagi, Soryu, Kaga and Hiryu. Negotiations about the names almost led to the withdrawing of the selling of the carriers. Only one carrier was purchased (from the four carriers planned) and named 'Varukirī' (Valkyrie). One Kokutai of the JMSDF was stationed on the Varukirī while the remaining three Kokutais were relocated to the JASDF with the ability of landing onboard the ship. The 'Hyō' (Panther) entered service in 1997 in the 301st, 302nd and 305th Kokutai of the JASDF and the 81st Kokutai in the JMSDF. The AIM-54-Technology was also part of the purchase. Mitsubishi started building the missile under the designation AAM-7 Hinotori (Phoenix). 81st Kokutai on patrol A Hyō from the 301st awaiting permission for takeoff The 302nd Kokutai uses a camo called "Nihon Ijisha" (Defender of Japan) The 'Zero'-Camouflage of the 305th Kokutai
  7. View File [Fictional] SAAB/Mitsubishi JAS39EJ Gripen This is a mod of the JAS-39C from the Gripen Team to make it look like fighterplane from the japanese air self defense force. BACKGROUND: After having had good experiences during the first joint venture between SAAB and Mitsubishi and the high grade of acception of the japanese Draken by the JASDF-Pilots, the ministry of defense initiated a new joint venture. The swedish Gripen was now to be "nipponized". Pilots of the JASDF went to Sweden to fly the Gripen and push her to the limit, testing her capabilities. The Pilots were amazed how easy it was to fly the Gripen. Back in Japan, the Pilots reported their experiences to their superiors what led to an order of 120 planes, mainly single-seater. The first planes arrived during the first months of 2006, were they had to undergo changes in electronics, adapting them to japanese JASDF-Standards. The 8th Hikotai and the 305th Hikotai were the first squadrons receiving the Gripen. This plane was the first wearing the new JAMPAT-Camo in service. 12. View File [Fictional] Eurofighter EFJ Typhoon This is a mod of the EF-2000 Typhoon from Bongodriver to make it look like fighterplane from the japanese air self defense force. BACKGROUND: In March 2007, the JASDF opened a competition for the next generation plane. Among the competitors are the Super Hornet, the F-35 and the Typhoon. The Rafale was not part of the competition because of the fear, that american planes could be favourized. Nevertheless, Eurofighter threw the Typhoon into competition. There will be no decision until November 2011(Janes Information Group). The EFJ Typhoon represents a possible version of the japanese Typhoon in the case it should become the winner of the competition. The plane will enter service in 2013 becoming part of the 3rd and the 6th Hikotai, replacing the single-seater F-2. While the 3rd Hikotai wears the standard grey camo, the 6th Hikotai wears the standard two-tone blue camo also worn by the F-2. INSTALLATION: Simply drop the Folders into your Strike Fighters Mods Folder. CREDITS: Thanks to Brain32 for adapting the plane to SF2-Standards and to Bongodriver for creating this bird! ORIGINAL CREDITS: A BIG BIG thanks to USAFMTL (and various partners in crime) for his help and guidance and support. Jimmybib and Sundowner for initial consultation on skinning and all credit to Sundowner for producing the final skins which are superb. Moonjumper for his advice on some avionics matters All of you for you encouragement and kind words through it's development My Producers....etc...etc :) Oh god I'm going to cry.. Anyway I decided to release slightly early because I'd like some of you to enjoy tweaking this thing, theres alot of talent out there who can make this thing great. Absolutely no part of this is to be used in payware but moddify the model any way you wish and re distribute in your own freeware mods as you wish with no permission required from me, just give me the relevant credit. Enjoy... NazGhul Submitter ValAstur Submitted 09/11/2011 Category What If Hangar

  17. Hey Veltro Those F-20s are looking awesome!
  18. In 2011, the actual minister of defense, Toshimi Kitazawa, wanted the air force to be more powerful and well equipped than they are now. Even the F-2 and the F-15J and DJ seemed not to be modern enough. Kitazawa was of the opinion, with the rising of China and the becoming dangerous of northern Korea, the air force as main line of defense had to be strong and powerful. During that same year, Japan and the US signed a contract over more than 120 planes, primarily F-Type, of the Super Hornet. Being modified by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for being capable of using the modern japanese missiles, the Hornet received the same name, but in japanese: Suzumebachi. Being odd at first sight, the new aggressor camo of the first squadron to receive the plane reflects the mood of its pilots, showing the enemy that there will be no retreat..just like Samurai. The unperfect camo concerning some stains along the colour borders are wanted and shall recall the japanese calligraphy. The first planes will enter service in 2012 in the 301st, 303rd, 306th and 501st Hikotai. Aggressor camo Standard grey camo
  19. Hey Spinners Outstanding! This idea was a great one. Thanks a lot. Let this Hangar grow.
  20. View File [Fictional] IAI/Grumman F-14I Petten (Cobra) This is a mod of TMF's F-14B (96) to make it look like a multirole aircraft from the israeli air force. BACKGROUND: Being impressed of the interception capabilities of the F-14 combined with the AIM-54 Phoenix, the IDF decided to order themselves a modified version of the F-14B, the bombing capable version of the Tomcat. Modifications were performed by IAI. The modifications also needed the AIM-54C to be modified. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the national arms manufacturer, created, based on the construction plans of the Phoenix, the 'Serpent' LRAAM, which design was identical to the Phoenix but with israeli electronics inside. The missile was extensely tested over the mediterranean sea and proofed to be equal to the AIM-54 concerning performance, reliability and accuracy. Primary role was the interception of incoming enemy planes from seaside long before reaching the coast and secondary role was Strike and Anti-Ship-Missions. Two squadrons got equipped with the 'Peten': The Valley Squadron (109th) grey camo Flying Dragon Squadron (115th) desert camo INSTALLATION: Simply drop the Folders into your Strike Fighters Mods Folder.
