  1. There's very little information out there about it but did you guys know a F-8 Crusader Fighter Weapons School (aka Topgun) identical to the F-4 Phantom Fighter Weapons School (FWS) was set up and operating a few months first? The Ault report that called for a F-4 Post Graduate FWS equally called for a F-8 Post Graduate FWS
  2. Agreed, it is one of the first things I will change even if its just for my own private mod etc. Same with ejection seats.
  3. F-8 pilot in the Navy/ USMC camouflage (WWII 'duck hunter') fatigues a lot of older F-8 pilots wore early on during the Vietnam war:
  4. I also have single AIM-9 rail options for all the other F-8 Variants with Y-racks (D/E/J/H):
  5. Great minds think alike! 😄 F-8C (66) Y-Racks
  6. This was also bread and butter for the USAF Block 40/42 F-16C community with the LANTIRN system and Paveway III bombs. F-16 tactic was to toss the LGB from low level and then turn 90 degrees to laser the target. Unfortunately it doesn't work in SF2 very well. Try less aggressive maneuvering and with the GBU-24
  7. Mirage III & Nesher Gun Sight Fix.

As I said the Osprey books show the difference clear as day with a ton of gun sight kill images from the Mirage III and Nesher. There is also gun sight video on YouTube from Israel Mirage III. I also found some gunsight photos online of Australian Mirage III with various targets in thier sights (training).

Mirage III and Nesher Gun Sight Fix. This mod corrects the Stock Third Wire Gun Sights for the Mirage IIICJ Shahak, Mirage IIICJ Shahak (71), Nesher and as a bonus the DLC 17 RAAF Mirage fighters. I recently read the Osprey book Israeli 'Mirage and Nesher Aces' and 'Mirage III vs Mig-21 Six Day War 1967.' Both books are full of gun camera images of Israeli Mirage IIICJ and Nesher fighters killing MIGs. From these I realised Third Wire has made an error on all the Mirage gun sights by aligning the (horizontally elongated) aircraft reference cross with the gun bore-sight and thus the gun piper. In the Nesher and Mirage IIIO that leaves the actual gun bore-sight cross sitting above the gun piper doing nothing. This mod corrects the position and alignment of the aircraft reference cross, gun piper and gun bore-sight cross (Nesher and Mirage IIIO). This correction should be applied to any other version of Mirage III, Mirage 5, Nesher or Dagger you have that uses a Third Wire Mirage cockpit and/ or Mirage gun sight. CombatAce fair use agreement applies. Cheers, Dan.

  10. No as for an aircraft with no real world RCS reduction measures the game engine generated .lod 'hit box' size based RCS is correct.
  11. I am sure you are right but for the purposes of this topic (and along with the F-15A) it gives us a scale to work with when figuring out the hitbox area RCS the game creates. If that makes sense.
  12. F-16A as delivered and excluding MLU or ADF upgrades

Background on the Rivet Haste project: With the soft (slatted) wing, the pinkie switch (basically the very first HOTAS), and the TISEO modifications for the F-4E, the USAF realized it had the tools to make its fighter pilots more lethal. In the late summer of 1972, the Rivet Haste program was established. Rivet Haste would be the Air Force's acknowledgement that years of substandard training and poor doctrine had to be reversed. Rivet Haste combined the slatted wing, TISEO, and 556 mod of the F-4E and teamed them up with handpicked crews with combat experience over Vietnam. They were assembled at Nellis AFB and here the key of Rivet Haste would take place- intensive training with the new F-4Es against the secret MiG force that Air Force flew out of Tonopah north of Las Vegas. Each Rivet Haste crew were paired up to stay together through training to deployment for combat- this allowed the pilot and his WSO to develop their own system of coordination in the cockpit and carry that to combat. Six pilots and six WSOs were in each Rivet Haste group and each pilot/WSO would fly at least three missions against the MiGs at Tonopah. Each month, a new group of six pilots and six WSOs were assigned to Rivet Haste. Crews assigned to Rivet Haste saw it as a quantum leap in air combat training that the USAF had never had before. Unfortunately they arrived in Vietnam to late to score any air-to air-kills and only flew a handful of Linebacker II missions before the end of the war.

    Version 1.0

    331 downloads

Republic F-105B Thunderchief (Stand in) Uses the TW F-105D model as a stand in with the following mods: - Removed nose pitot tube and added one to the left outer wing via fakepilot method. - Data.ini edits (weight, thrust, service year etc). - Ranging radar only. - Re-painted and re-panel lined the nose to re-shape it into that of the F-105B. - Moved cannon port. - Canopy can open. - Removed bombay fuel tank. - Cockpit is from the F-84F as the F-105B did not have the 'tape' style instruments or a radar scope like the F-105D - Added 'fighter sweep' mission as if a shooting war had developed during the Cuban Missile Crisis some of the 4th TFW F-105B Squadrons were tasked with an Air Superiority role. - One generic USAF silver skin using stock decals and another for the 335th TFS, 4th TFW that forward deployed to Macoy AFB during the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. To Install: - Un-pack and drop into your mods folder. Credits: - TW for the F-105D. - Sundowner for the template. - Zurawski & Gunrunner for the cockpit.
  15. Conversion of the SF2 Su-39 in to the earlier Su-25T Tankovy which the Su-39 (aka Su-25TM) was derived from. The Su-25T is a dedicated anti-tank version of the Su-25. It was combat tested and proven in Chechnya. The tube launched Vikhr laser guided anti-tank rocket is its main weapon which it could self designate with its nose mounted Prichal system. I also made the Mercury LLTV Pod for night time operations and the MPS-410 ECM Pod for it. MPS-410 ECM pods are also used on the Russian AF upgraded Su-25SM. Along side the usual cluster bombs and rockets etc it could also use the Kh-29L, KAB-500KR, Kh-25ML/MP, Kh-58U and Vympel R-73. I have integrated it into the 1986 Nato Fighters 5 campaign and it makes a potent anti-tank platform.
  16. A lot of the time 80% is a ship in the ground objects folder that is called as an object by the terrain that has not been updated to SF2NA standards with a collision model.
  17. - All skins updated with cockpit textures and various other minor details. - KM-1 Ejection seats added. Grey on most but black for Mig-MLDe, MiG-23P and MiG-23P (82) - Grey undersides on Soviet Camouflage skins changed from grey to blue/ grey. Additional dark green added in to the Soviet camouflage of later model MiG-23's. - Skins added for Iraqi, Syria (Late), Polish camouflage, Soviet desert (in Afghanistan) and Soviet Afghanistan veterans. - Corrections to decal size and/ or positions on various skins. - Additional MiG-23MLDe variant created. This is the Syrian specific export model of the MLD which did not have the IFF or aerodynamic enhancements (vortex generators) of the Soviet MLD and had a slightly downgraded radar. Syrian made countermeasure dispensers installed on either side of the tail fin. - Additional MiG-23P (82) variant created. This is the Soviet P model that was upgraded to the same standard as the MLD but without the aerodynamic enhancements. - Made flyable with the MLD cockpit available here at CA by Stary. Cockpit modified for the M and MF aircraft to have the AOA warning light removed and an earlier style gun piper. - Leading edge flaps fixed to now automatically deploy during manoeuvring for the MLD, MLDe and P (82) - Radar data and performance is corrected from the S-23MLA radar to the S-23MLA-II radar for the MLD. - Only MLD with S-23MLA radar has an ACM mode. All other MiG-23 radars have only Search or Track modes. - KDS-23 countermeasure dispenser installed in the centreline drop tank pylon of the MLA, MLD, MLDe and P (82). This is a 12 shot chaff/ flare countermeasure dispenser that could be used once the drop tank had been jettisoned. - Primary and secondary roles expanded to reflect the evolution of the MLD version of the MiG-23 into a more multi role fighter platform. - Use of Kh-25M air-to-surface missile and datalink pod added to all versions. - Loadouts enhanced and corrected. Some Afghanistan specific ones added. - Fuselage and wing AA-8 positions corrected. - Removed ECM jammer from the MLD. - Grey, blue/ grey and camouflage centerline drop tank options. MiG-23M MiG-23MF MiG-23MLA MiG-23MLD MiG-23MLDe MiG-23P (82)
  18. I have chased this down too and are satisfied that no MiG-23 fighter variant in service had an internal jammer. I think the miss understanding in some sources is due to mistakes in translations or a 'fitted for but not with' type situation. Some Soviet MLD test variants were wired for jamming pods and/or internally jammers but this was not rolled out across the fleet.
  19. Somthing like this maybe?... 😁
  20. .... What am I missing here?..... lol
  21. View File Third Wire MiG-23 fighters made flyable & updated for SF2 Third Wire MiG-23 fighters made flyable & updated for SF2 MiG-23M, MiG-23M (85), MiG-23MF, MiG-23ML, MiG-23MLA, MiG-23MLD, MiG-23MLD (Soviet-Afgan War), MiG-23MLDe, MiG-23P, MiG-23P (82), MiG-23MS This is a follow on from my "Third Wire MiG-23MLD updated & flyable for SF2" mod and completely supersedes it. - All are flyable with a modified version of Stary's MLD cockpit/ avionics with corrections by Crusader and myself. There are slightly different cockpits/ gunsights depending on the model of aircraft. - Wing spoilers are now working as they were always there just not activated. Thanks again Crusader! - Opening Canopy. - KM-1 Ejection seats added. Grey on most but black for Mig-23MLDe, MiG-23P and MiG-23P (82). - Loadouts enhanced and corrected. Some Afghanistan specific ones added. Use of Kh-25M air-to-surface missile and datalink pod added. - Missile positions corrected, especially for the AA-8. - Single missile rail for the fuselage AA-8. - Improved/ corrected FM. - Improved engine sound and afterburner effect. - All Mig-23 have an ACM/ boresight radar mode but it is set straight ahead along the gunsight and does not move/ scan. The MLD and P (82) have an ACM/ boresight mode that scans vertically like the F-16 or F-15 etc. - MLD, MLDe and P (82) have KDS-23 countermeasure dispenser installed in the centreline drop tank pylon. This is a 12 shot chaff/ flare countermeasure dispenser that could be used once the drop tank had been jettisoned. - MLD Leading edge flaps automatically deploy during maneuvering as they did on the MLD with the type 3 wing. - MLD Primary and secondary roles expanded to reflect the evolution of the MLD into a more multi role fighter platform. - Removed ECM jammer from MLD. - Radar data and performance is corrected from the S-23MLA radar to the S-23MLA-II radar for the MLD. - Most if not all the exported and Warsaw pack ML aircraft were actually MLA models, this is an error in most publications, model kits and flight sims alike and has only been corrected in recent publications. The ML was operated by the Soviet airforce and by the time the export models were being built the production line had switched to the MLA. This is now corrected in the game. All skins updated with cockpit textures and various other minor details. - Grey undersides on Soviet Camouflage skins changed from grey to blue/ grey. Additional dark green added in to the Soviet camouflage of later model MiG-23s. Lots of other texture corrections done. - Skins added for Iraqi, Syria (Late), Polish camouflage, Egypt, North Korea, Libya, Soviet desert (in Afghanistan) and Soviet Afghanistan veterans. - Corrections to decal size and/ or positions on various skins. - Additional MiG-23MLDe variant created. This is the Syrian and Libian specific export model of the MLD which did not have the IFF or aerodynamic enhancements (vortex generators) of the Soviet MLD and had a slightly downgraded radar. Syrian made countermeasure dispensers installed on either side of the tail fin. - Additional MiG-23P (82) variant created. This is the Soviet P model that was upgraded to the same standard as the MLD but without the aerodynamic enhancements. - Additional MiG-23M (85) variant created. This is a few squadrons of the Soviet M model that had its IFF upgraded some time between 1978 and the early 90's (Same nose IFF antenna as the MLD and P (82). - Additional MiG-23MLD (Soviet-Afgan War) variant created. This is the Soviet MLD but reflects the specific loadouts, modifications, countermeasures and markings of the MLD models that served in the Soviet Afgan war. - Updated weapons from the RSSW 099 mod. To Install: 1, Delete ALL previous TW MiG-23 mods. 2, Unpack and drop the 2 parts of this download into your main mods folder. 3, You MUST override when prompted. Credits: - ThirdWire. - Crusader. - Stary. - Snailman. - Eburger68. - Paladrian. - Svetlin - Cocas CombatAce fair agreement applies. Enjoy, Dan (dtmdragon). 22. No this is part of the cockpit lod and function. It is the compromise withen the limitations of the game engine to have the radar displayed in a hud as done on the MiG-23. You can change the radar note name to inactive in the cockpit.ini file to remove it but then you will have no radar data displayed at all.
  23. I will update the MLDe userlist. I cant understand why you are having trouble with the MF decals and textures. The game should be using the default ones as I have not changed them hence they are not in the download. If you change any of the aircraft or texture file names then you would have the issues you are describing but as they are in the download they should work fine unless you dont have a SF2 title with the MiG-23MF in it?
  24. This is because you have renamed the aircraft folder from MiG-23MF to MiG-23MF_TW. You will have to extract the decal file and put it in.
  25. Does this with gepards original SF1 Afganistan terrain make it SF2 compatible?
