Thanks guys, you warm my cold cold heart. :blush2: -
If so, it just makes the current PS3 at $399 that much more of a steal. BD/DVD/CD player with the ability to stream all your music and videos from your PC to your stereo, as well as play games if you are into that. The only thing its missing is SACD playback, which is a shame since SACD is a downright awesome audio format, but neither DVD-A or SACD ever reached critical mass, unfortunately.

It took me a long time to wrap my brain around the way that the TGA format with alpha channel works. What image editor are you guys using? Maybe I can work up an alternative tutorial. -

This is the time on Sprockets when we dance! -
Personally I think the mid-generation AIM-9s are undermodeled. I just don't get much more performance from an AIM-9H for example than I do from an AIM-9B. And I've fired thousands of them over the years so its not an impression based on a couple of shots. So I can see where Spectre is coming from...I think.

When you say lack of regular remote do you mean lack of an IR remote? Because for $20 or so you can get a regualr remote for the PS3, it just uses bluetooth instead of IR.

He doesn't know yet. I don't have the heart to tell him. It will crush his spirit. :( -
Try $399 for a PS3. Which is the only BD player guaranteed to be upgradeble to all future versions of the Blu-Ray standard, and is also UPnP media player for everything else you have media-wise. Even if you never play a single game, its a great investment as a media-hub. Don't be a Sony hater, they have an excellent product in the PS3 despite their past sins.

Its just speculation on my part, because the missile never actually met its test objective of being able to engage and destroy 6 targets simultaneously, and its extremely limited combat record resulted in 0 kills, notwithstanding any Iranian use which we have no real idea about.

Ps3 is the best bluray player you can buy, even if you never use it as a game console.

Its just what I've read. Don't put too much faith in it because I could certainly be wrong, but I have read in more than once source that the Supa Honet didn't quite meet all of its expectations in the areas I listed, and doesn't really replace the A-6 or the F-14 in a lot of ways. Bring-back capability is often cited as being a problem with both the legacy Hornet and Supa. That is, if you take off with a large weapons load and don't expend it all you may have to dump some of it before you land. Not a huge deal with dumb bombs I presume, but you can't treat Paveways and JDAMs like that.

Yes, we have returned from our vacation. I need to heap as much thanks on MK2 and Erik as I possibly can. MK2 for keeping CA up and running, and Erik for working very hard to get my site set up on CA's web host. This has huge ramifications, not the least of which is that I will no longer be hounded by my web host for having the audacity to put files up for download. So a few things to mention for those who have been visiting the site for a long time... 1. The forum is gone. It was fun to have a forum at first, but it eventually became a drag. The downside is that ABF is gone, the upside is that I don't have to run a forum anymore. Yeah...I know...its kind of one-sided. Anyway, the forum link at C5 will now point right back here to CombatAce. 2. Many, many people were generous enough to donate money to help me keep the site running over the years. Since I am hosted at CA now, and don't have to pay for the forum anymore, I no longer need donations. HOWEVER, CombatAce does need your help, so please, if you have the means, purchase a subscription to CA and help take some of the load off of MK2. The subscriptions also support MarcFighters, Fist of the Fleet, and now C5. 3. Tahiti. It was nice, I took the sailboat there. The women complied with most of my demands, but were fearful of Cheez-Whiz. 4. Finally, the site is back up with all of the old content, but things will be changing. I am eager to hear any suggestions on what C5 might bring to the table to compliment all of the great resources already available at CombatAce.

Mirage Factory has Russ's model and it is in our work queue, but I can't offer any ETA on it. -
Problem is, the re-engined Tomcat is measurably superior to the Supa Honet in many respects: Range, payload, loiter time, bring-back weight, speed, etc. etc. Notice how all of those characteristics are essential for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan? As a taxpayer I feel totally ripped off, which is why I was happy that the tanker deal went to Northrop/Grumman and Airbus rather than Boeing.

That is a good point and there is some question as to whether the Phoenix was really an effective weapon or more of a bluff. On the other hand, an F-14D with six AIM-120C and a pair of AIM-9X would have been no bluff at all.
-
Cost was a major factor. The Tomcat was always extremely expensive to procure and maintain. Also, I would guess that the F-14A fleet was completely worn out by the time they were retired. Tthe small number of Bs and Ds would not have amounted to an effective force, and would have been even more expensive to maintain due to diminishing economy of scale. The only way the Tomcat could have lived longer is if the F-14D productin line had been kept open, and enough new-build Ds had been produced to replace the tired As. That is what should have happened in hindsight. But it didn't.

Blu-Ray is the shiznit, fellows. Hook your PS3 up to an HD set and prepare to be rocked.

Thanks, I will put out the templates, but not until I clean them up, which could be a few weeks. -
In all seriousness, CA should look into hiring Mr. T to make videos for this kind of thing. "Fool! Is the aircraft folder named the same as the data.ini? If not, Mr. T will introduce you to his friend PAIN!"
