  1. Do you know what else is worth "nothing" Gepard....your assumptions and total misinformation based on how things were and your total ignorance! I'm not interested in your continued drivel ......either contribute with some facts based in reality or shut up please.
  2. You do realise Top Gear has been more about entertainment than fact since it revamped itself..............people don't watch it for facts they want to be entertained. Like with computing too many people get stuck in the past..............Its not about how things were X years back its how things are now or will be with improvement........in 2011 things might have been like that. Today I've read claims the Batteries should be good for around 10 years...........Tesla currently have an 8 year unlimited millage warranty on their battery pack. Yes it is (Currently) expensive to replace but the cost could come down massively in the next 8 years (assuming you want to keep the car) if the numbers are ramped up.
  3. You are right...........typically the cold does degrade battery life........you need to power the heater etc Problem is that a lot of resource is now going into engineering batteries that actually last.........it only needed something to motivate people.......and a mass produced popular car is one of those things............Tesla has been putting a lot into this (with Panasonic) Nissan claim 300 miles on their new gen Leaf (due 2017?) .............if in 5 years you haven't got batteries that last over 1000 miles then come back to me. Just consider that my current car goes ~356 miles on a full tank. (I only use half that per week on average). Electric cars wont be for everyone but potentially a large majority will switch. If you forget to charge the car at home you might be reliant on a supercharger at a petrol station but currently it is minutes not hours to get enough charge to go somewhere. This also depends on the infrastructure being there........a better solution maybe a personal portable super charger of some kind in the future............likely someway round it if you manage it properly.
  4. True...but its a massive improvement over the current cars that already need batteries, have more complex / less reliable piston engines and chuck out pollution on a massive global scale. On top of that most should eventually (if you don't already) get far better reliability and performance from electric cars - without the oil and other filter change crap.
  5. Final Release of DCS: F-86F Sabre Belsimtek and The Fighter Collection are pleased to announce that DCS: F-86F Sabre has left beta and updated to release status today. Although the module is now feature complete, we will of course continue to tune the aircraft and fix any bugs that may arise. Purchase: DCS: F-86F Sabre by Belsimtek Trailer: DCS F-86F Sabre release trailer DCS: F-86F Sabre is a highly realistic simulation of the legendary American single-seat fighter jet F-86 Sabre, developed by North American Aviation. With more than 9,800 airframes of all versions built, the "Sabrejet" is the most-produced U.S. jet fighter in history. The aircraft took part in air-to-air combat, strike missions and surveillance. In addition to these roles, the F-86F Sabre was also used as a target drone and as a test bed for systems and weaponry. The aircraft became known to the public as the "MiG Killer" during the Korean War in the early 1950s. The F-86 was supplied to more than 30 countries and stayed in operational service until the early 1970's. The different versions of the Sabre scored more than 900 aerial combat victories – more than any other jet fighter! The F-86F-35, the model simulated in DCS: F-86F Sabre, belongs to one of the latest series of the "F" modifications, and carries the sophisticated A-4 gunsight. Its armament includes six 12.7-mm M3 Browning machine guns, up to two 500-pound AN-M64 or 750-pound M117 bombs, up to 16 5" HVAR rockets and two GAR-8 air-to-air missiles. Since July 2014, when the Open Beta version of DCS: F-86F Sabre was offered for download, Belsimtek has undertaken great efforts to further improve the module. Since then, DCS: F-86F has received numerous improvements and is now much closer to the real F-86F-35! Our thanks go out to the enthusiasts – fans of this aircraft, who were directly involved in parts of the development process –, Belsimtek was able to take the DCS: F-86F Sabre to a whole new level. In particular, a lot of research went into recreating the original cockpit and associated systems to be much more accurate. In addition, a highly detailed 360+ page flight manual and nine training missions (the English missions will all receive voice-overs in the near future) are included. The flight dynamics were further developed and tuned so that now even advanced and critical regimes such as stall and spin are fully realistic. Using the original full technical documentation of the real F-86F Sabre during the development process, it was possible for the engine model and the flight dynamics to reach a very high level of accordance with the real flight characteristics of the aircraft. The installation package includes both a quickstart and a full flight manual, in-game training missions in English and Russian language, and single combat missions. The quickstart manual enables the player to quickly learn basic procedures like take-off, landing and weapon usage without the need to delve deep into the full flight manual from the beginning. Key Features of DCS: F-86F Sabre: Unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this legend of the Korean War Highly detailed, six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DOF) cockpit Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse and other input devices Accurate F-86F Sabre model, country markings, and weapons Detailed modelling of the F-86F Sabre instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, oxygen and electrical systems Battle DCS: MiG-15bis in single and multiplayer games Weekend Bundle Deals This weekend we have a couple of bundle deals that include the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range map with both the F-86F and its nemesis the MiG-15bis. 8. BAE Systems’ laser-guided rocket has been rushed into combat on the AV-8B Harrier, seven months after it was requested by the top brass of the US Marine Corps. The semi-active-laser-seeking 70mm (2.75in) rocket, enabled by BAE’s mid-body guidance and control section, is already deployed on US Navy and Marine Corps attack helicopters and was recently acquired by the Army for the AH-64 Apache gunship, but it will soon become a standard tool on the fixed-wing AV-8B jump jet. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/baes-apkws-rockets-go-to-war-on-av-8b-harrier-423724/

  12. Anything credible in this? Croatian security services and the Defense Ministry have launched an investigation into a 2013 military deal with a Ukrainian company, which is said to have undermined the air force’s combat capabilities. Under the contract, Croatia paid over $21 million to repair and modernize seven Soviet-era MiG-21 fighter jets at Ukrainian plants, and to purchase another five aircraft of the same type there. But those five MiG-21s were never sold by the Ukrainians “as such,” Jutarnji List newspaper has revealed. In fact, the aircraft were reportedly assembled from dubious obsolete parts coming from all over the world. ............................................................ All the MiGs that arrived from Ukraine have been destroyed as the air force does not know where they actually came from, a source close to the investigation told Jutarnji List, without elaborating. As a result, the country has essentially lost a key part of its air force, the newspaper notes. https://www.rt.com/news/337010-ukraine-fake-jets-croatia/
  13. From Boxer: Hi Everyone: It is my pleasure to be able to tell you that the BMS team has reached an agreement with Tommo, current owners of Falcon 4.0 copyrights, that will allow us to resume making Falcon BMS community add-on releases now and for the foreseeable future with Tommo's approval. The next release which will be version 4.33.1 incorporates two kinds of changes: Fixes and updates to the Falcon BMS content based on bug reports and other inputs to the team; and Some changes specifically related to the agreement with Tommo. I won't telegraph the punch on the first of those categories; a change log will come with the release as you would normally expect and the documentation will be updated to match. That's all I'm going to say on that front so for details you will just have to be patient for a little longer The second category may require a bit more explanation in particular because everyone will need to be prepared for changes in the way the Falcon BMS installs and runs on your systems. For the most part, you _should_ be prepared already in most cases if you have run Falcon BMS before but to be on the safe side, I want to make clear how things will work from this point on in case people want time to make sure their systems meet the requirements. The biggest visible change is in how the installer and the game executable launch. It has always been the BMS team's approach that Falcon BMS is an add-on for use with licensed copies of the original Falcon 4.0 game. As the primary element of the agreement with Tommo, the game now reinforces this principle more strongly. Specifically, the installer will check to see that a complete copy of the Falcon 4.0 game (we recommend patching to 1.08 to be on the safe side) is present on storage media in the system on which the installer is running. Similarly, each time the launcher is used to start the game, the same check will be made. In other words, to use Falcon BMS on your system, a licensed copy of Falcon 4.0 must also be installed and present on that system. You do not need to have run Falcon 4.0 after installing it before you try installing or running Falcon BMS; simply completing Falcon 4.0 install successfully is sufficient. Note that presence of a CD [or ISO] copy of the original game will not help you: Falcon 4.0 must be installed correctly and completely on the system for the checks to succeed. For the avoidance of doubt, only copies of the original Falcon 4.0 game will work for use with Falcon BMS (any other later variants such as Allied Force are not compatible). For clarity, the checks performed are entirely local to the system so both installing and running the game will work on a system that has no internet or other network connection. If you have Falcon 4.0 resident on your local system, then the first visible difference you will see is a new splash screen. That screen shows a Falcon BMS logo and logos for Tommo, Retroism and the BMS team together with copyright and trademark statements that outline terms of use. You will note from this that the Falcon BMS community add-on is made and distributed with permission from Tommo. That permission is conditioned on the install and runtime checks mentioned above as well as reinforcing that, in line with the BMS team's long-time policy, Falcon BMS is only available for non-commercial uses. The splash screen is displayed in time that is used to load the game in the background so, in other words, no additional start up time should result from the splash screen (compared to earlier Falcon BMS versions). If you do not have Falcon 4.0 installed on your local system then the next thing you will see is a Windows message box pop-up that tells you that the installer or the game is unable to find a copy of Falcon 4.0 on your system. The message box has a button to dismiss it (once you have read the message) and then the game will exit immediately. As I said, if you have used Falcon BMS before then you should already have Falcon 4.0. However, for those who may be new to the community, the message box mentions some possible sources of licensed copies of Falcon 4.0 that you may like to use to acquire a legitimate copy if you need to do that. Other sources are possible and viable; for instance private sale or eBay to find a copy of the [increasingly-rare] original hard-copy game materials. [Note there were some issues with copies of Falcon 4.0 purchased from Steam (it was made available there in January 2016) -- these are now resolved as we helped Tommo get the Steam install process working correctly -- thus Steam is a viable (and convenient??) source for copies of Falcon 4.0 if you need one.] We had planned for 4.33.1 to be a small incremental patch for 4.33. As a result of the changes described above, this will not be possible. Instead, 4.33.1 will be a complete from-scratch installer. You will have to use this to make a fresh install of Falcon BMS. That install will be separate and independent from any other you may already have on your system. There are a few exceptions (see docs when available) but in the main, file content from 4.33 will be compatible with 4.33.1 so things like key files and log books can probably just be copied over to the new 4.33.1 install directory. For the avoidance of doubt there is no way, supported or otherwise, to get 4.33.1 features inserted into an existing 4.33 install...that just won't work so we would recommend not wasting time trying it. While the above might cover most things you have in mind, there may still be reasonable and constructive questions to ask so we'll try and keep this thread open so long as it remains useful to do so. In closing I want to thank on behalf of the entire BMS team those of you who have waited patiently while this situation resolved and for the support and encouragement received in the meanwhile. We hope you will agree that this is a good day for the Falcon community As an aside: please know that the BMS team has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to discussion or use of anything other than legitimate, licensed copies of Falcon 4.0 for use with Falcon BMS. Don't do it, don't encourage it, and don't enable it. Keep in mind that legitimate copies are readily available again now and for a tiny fraction of the cost of the system you need to run the game. No one is required to buy a new copy -- if you own one of the originals (I have three copies myself ) that will work fine. However, there is simply no excuse for not owning a legitimate copy anymore. Put another way: you jeopardize the ability of the BMS team to keep improving Falcon BMS in future if you go around the requirement for owning a legit copy of the game before you install and run Falcon BMS. That is why we have zero tolerance.
  14. Considering the pint glass stuck on the Harrier nose mod to make it look even uglier I wouldn't hold out any hopes for too many improvements in that department. God only knows the horrors that await it when we get it. On the upside there is nothing better out there..................apart from the F-35C of course.
  15. Before this turns into the ugly British fighter thread..........of which the only exceptions are probably: Spitfire Typhoon (New) Hunter (if you are from the 50s) Sea Harrier (with bubble canopy) Folland Gnat (if you are from the 50s) Can you say Fugly.
  16. Nice! Shame about the pic which looks like a quick photoshop of an F-16AM.
  17. F-15A didn't have the range, with the C you need CFTs which reduced its handling quite a bit anyway. Not so sure but suspect the F-15C radar automated most of what was done by the Tornado rear seater. F-16 was potentially a cheaper option until all the mods came...what do we think (1986 delivery): Block 30 airframe RR Spey engine (29,000 lbf rated) IFF built into radar Internal ECM fit but 2 AIM-7/9 less and a shorter reach radar.
  18. The Harrier is being replaced by the far superior F-35B in the FAA and Marine Corp.
  19. The Sea Harrier is an aircraft rapidly vanishing from armed service the world over. The Indian Navy purchased thirty of them back in the early 1980s, but only 11 remain. The decision to retire the type was based on India’s purchase of MiG-29Ks from Russia, which it will use to operate from the country’s aircraft carrier, the INS Viraat. That’s an interesting notion, as the Viraat itself is slated to be retired by the end of the year. https://fightersweep.com/4826/sea-harrier-retires-indian-navy/
  20. https://fightersweep.com/4775/left-behind-russias-forces-syria/ As promised, we’ve been watching the situation in Syria as the Russians have begun withdrawing their forces. Not surprising, the stay-behind contingent is still pretty formidable. It includes approximately 2,000 personnel and approximately twenty combat aircraft. Among them are Su-24s, Su-30SMs, and Su-35S fighters, as well as Ka-52 and Mi-28N attack helicopters. And the S-400? Yep, you guessed it–that is staying as well.
  21. https://fightersweep.com/4761/bronco-back-fray-good/ It will be curious to see what happens with the Bronco. The aircraft flew 134 sorties–120 of them in combat, and amassed 477.3 flying hours, and achieved a 99% mission-capable rate. No matter how you look at it, that’s a very strong outing for 82 days worth of work. But what does it all mean? Are we looking at the viability of the Bronco itself? Or is this merely a look ahead for something like the A-29 or AT-6 to bridge a capability gap created by the absence of another platform?
  22. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35861444 The name of a new polar research vessel will be chosen by a panel of experts, even if the public overwhelmingly votes to call it Boaty McBoatface. Lord West, ex-First Sea Lord, said he was rather proud "silly names" had been suggested but hoped none were chosen. The Natural Environment Research Council had urged people to name its ship in a competition, which saw Boaty McBoatface easily topping the poll. The final name will be selected by the NERC, according to competition rules. Boaty McBoatface is currently leading with more than 27,000 votes, while the second place pick trails with around 3,000. The names Pingu, Usain Boat and It's Bloody Cold Here have also been put forward.
  23. Do you mean the DH Vampire? Totally unaware of the Beverly have to say and interesting we have ended up with pretty much a twin engine F-16.
