  1. If I recall the event was an Alpha Strike in the early days of the Air War. I saw a still of this in a book on the the Spad and the load looks like Korean vintage 750 pounders. Hard to tell from the angle of the camera. As a side note, the book stated that the toilet had been removed as unserviceable and it was originally mounted as a joke. Someone then decided to go ahead and drop it. There was another squadron that had a Mk 76 lying around the shop and was told to " get rid of it". Due to a shortage of kill stores the Blue Death was loaded so the unit could say the launched with all stations loaded. Somewhere in Viet Nam there is a NVA EOD team still trying to safe that weapon. One more thing concerning Spads and kill stores, a VC convoy one time was sighted on the Ho Chi Mihn Trail and the location was radioed back, the Spad squadrons had very little GP weapons at the time but lots of Depth Charges. They got permission to change fuses from the hydrostatic ones to an electrical one. By the time the Spads hit the convoy the valley was socked in, unless you understand explosives and their effect you need to know this, drop a store with an 70-85% explosive content into a valley, have the shock wave not only reflect not only from the sides but from the cloud cover too and the effect is worse than you could ever imagine. The poor bastards basically killed twice.
  2. We are not sure of your question, could you please explain exactly what you are wanting to do or find one of the forum boards in your native language and post there. (at least the spelling is correct)
  3. The one from the 70's TV show,
  4. Jug, don't feel bad about being out of the loop, I just got back into the TW games and man was it overwhelming to see how far everything had evolved. That said since you are behind me in the curve you must be taken out back and beaten by a tall brunette in a Wonder Woman costume!
  5. One more thing to consider, before that I know it's a game!, that said, was the aircraft ever fitted to carry such weapons? This series out of the box has tried over the years to be historically accurate, modding the loadouts for grins is fine but having a Walleye Mk1 Mod1 hanging off a Fishbed's wing is going to look more than funny_ and not funny like a clown_ but very odd. Add two more factors into the mix, weight the Mod1 was a 250lb class weapon/Mod2 was a 2000lb class that is only the bomb body fins and electronics are extra, and drag, these create a lot of drag on the parent aircraft. Okay stay with me... The Fishbed was developed as a point defense interceptor, it was very fast very agile and could kill almost any threat in it's backyard. The best wast to defeat one was to make the pilot burn so much fuel he would have little engagement time. Throwing missiles on it was no problem, it was made to do that, a couple of dumb bombs or rocket pods? again no problem, Soviet doctrine dictated that all aircraft have some offensive ability, but the A2G weapons used the stock sighting system. Now the fun part, in the game as Wrench stated there is more to slapping the bombs on the stations. Walleye was a TV or Electro-Optically guided weapon,Paveway is Laser guided and you will need another bird or ground controller to carry the designator as the early LGB's mother ships could not carry and guide at the same time, therefore you will need to make the ini changes in the electronics and data config files. That's just the start and since I don't have the KB or any of the Fishbed's ini files open this is coming off the top of my pointed head. I am not trying to put you off of trying your loadout, I just want you to know what you are getting yourself into from the start, if it works and you can carry and kill things on the ground post pics and share the edits so others can duplicate your feats of daring-do. Happy flying and hope you don't crash
  6. I'll look in my load out menu for the WP munitions, I don't use the 2.75's but the PWP incendiary bombs, I can put about 8 in the A-26's bombbay. As for decommed units, HSC-5 is always in my heart as is HAL-5 and HA(L)-3. The weapon is the AN-M-47A3 / A4, leaves a nice puffy cloud of smoke and crispy critters.
  7. Never had a problem with anything I have bought through Amazon.
  8. Come to think about it,every missile I loaded in the Navy left a big plume of smoke, all but Harpoon, and that's because it has a jet engine for propulsion. Maybe we were doing it wrong in real life, I should have edited the rocket motors to make less smoke Spell check..... USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Strafing VC bicycles is just wrong, Willie Pete is more fun, Sin Loy Charlie!
  10. KB- Knowledge Base, the repository of all the knowledge and insight on this forum. As for the smoke trails, the effects are true to the original period that TK replicated in SF. Earlier missiles left big plumes of white smoke upon launch, with every generation the weapon is improved including the motor. Look at pics of an AIM-9B and an AIM-9M, the trails are less smokey.
  11. Finished with work, now starting a much need vacation, Time to really gat some flights in.

  12. Skippy, if I remember right the 50s were mounted in the turret so that the crew could get a kill from it's targets blind spot. Also the 50s had a higher rate of fire than the 20mm's. That said it seems that the American built HS.404s were not as reliable as the British built ones. Found this on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispano-Suiza_HS.404 Most things there are suspect but this seems legit. As for the German's 30mm, true their birds were more heavily armed but the rate of fire was painfully slow, added to that was a heavy shell that, according to articles and books I have read, needed the nose of the plane pitched up slightly in order to "loft" the shells into a target. Firing whrere the aim point was useless as the round would drop below it's intended victim.
  13. Uh, we had a slight sourcing malfunction, but…uh, everything's perfectly fine now. We're fine. We're all fine here now. How are you?

  14. In Aviation Ordnance there is only one department, the MEN'S department! I knew one of you guys would make a post like this.
  15. Having spent all but 3 of my twenty years in the Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman it drives me up the wall to see a post using the wrong terms and phrases dealing with weapons. Having said that I am starting a list of terminology, acronyms and other big words used in the ordnance field. If you are an AO, USMC 6531 Ordnance, AF Ammo or Army whatever, feel free to add. If you are not in the Ordnance field just read and don't post, the Ordnance Mafia knows who is who. Stores - anything carried internally (bomb bay) or externally on an aircraft. Drop tanks are considered stores but do not have an offensive use ( unless it lands in your backyard) More to follow... Kill stores- any type or class of weapon that is used with hostile intent. Search stores- Primarily air launched flares but also includes air launched Sono-bouys, , Practice Depth Charges or externally mounted search lights. Store station- any point on an airframe that a store can be carried, this includes pylons, wing tip rails and missile mounts on the fuselage Pylon- a station that is mounted on the wing or fuselage to carry stores Class- a family of weapons either by type or weight as in Mk 82 class weapon, the Mk 82 bomb body is the basis of many weapons ie: Snakeye, AGM-123 Skipper and Mk 36 DST mine. Mk- Pronounced "mark" not "em-kay" it denotes in this case a series or family or ordnance (saying em-kay usually makes an Ordie want to choke the living s**t out of the offender) Pyro- Pyrotechnics_ flares, chaff, smoke markers, CADs, anything that is used to mark (designate) or illuminate a target, decoy/spoof tracking systems or missiles, eject or release stores. PGM- Precision Guided Munition, Laser Guided Bomb, JADAM, JSOW Unguided/Dumb munitions- Rockets, general purpose bombs, napalm. Weapons that rely on the pilots skill to place stores on target. Usually refered to as 'Kentucky Windage" . To get accurate spend lots of time on the range. Area Effect Munitions- Cluster bombs, napalm, white phosphorous, weapons that cover a wide area of engagement. Note: these are not accurate but are able to spread their effect in order to achieve maximum damage. The store designated "Lazy Dog" is a canister of "nails" that uses gravity and it's carrying aircraft's speed to achieve lethal velocity, the nails are non-explosive. FAE- Fuel Air Explosive, a weapon that uses the blast from a cloud of fuel to make a kill by overpressure, usually amplifying the normal air pressure by a factor of at least 10. Early FAEs used Ethylene-Oxide as it's explosive component. Blue Death- a training round, painted blue for use on a range. Note: although it is classified as inert the body of the store can incorporate a marker can make the weapon harmful to anyone that fails to follow proper procedures. Historical Note: Blue Death was used in an offensive capacity in the period between the two conflicts with Iran, the bomb bodies were fitted with Laser seekers and used against soft targets placed next to schools, houses, or hospitals. you can take out a radar site by dropping a 500lb rock on it. Thats all for now, Ordies/Ammo Troops please add as you like or PM me for corrections. Last one- IYAOYAS- If You Ain't Ordnance, You Ain't Sh**!!!
  16. Based on what my friends and myself know about the 60 in my opinion the drawings look plausible. The two gripes I have with the drawings is that the tail rotor is on the wrong side of the tail and the main rotor is shown in the wrong direction of rotation. As for the "stealth fairings" over the exhausts, these are known as HIRSS or Helicopter Infra-Red Suppression System, they are to negate the bird IR signature, I suppose that some suppression of engine noise is possible but not likely. The rotor blade tips are angled to delay the shock wave of the blade tips, believe me, even an unstealthed 60 can be on you before you know it if the approach is made at low-level and high speed. There was a lot of conjecture and speculation among my former squadron mates regarding the bird, and we are talking a lot of man-year experience in this select group. My money in on a conventional airframe with a highly modified rotor system and judicious application of radar absorbent materials. Remember they can't be that stealthy, a Pakistani computer geek outed them on Twitter

  18. Mk20 shreds 'em, Napalm cooks 'em, 20mm turns them into bite size pieces. BBQ,mmmmmmmmmmmm! Seriously, your load out for a CAS mission should be a mix of 2.75" FFAR, Mk 82_either Snakeye or fuze extender_ Mk 20 Rockeye and 20mm for those just in case targets. Since you did not state your bird are we to assume that it is an F-4? For CAS I use one of 4 airframes depending on my mood and level of pissed off at the word I happen to be in, my first choice is the B-57B, second is the A-26K, both birds have bomb bays and lot's of external stations to hang ordnance from, last two are the SPAD (A-1H for you kids) and the OV-10, the Spad is like a flying bomb truck lots of store stations and 4, count them 4, Colt Mk 12 20mm cannon. My advice is to look at your mission brief and take a good mix on your bird, fast movers are not that effective for two reasons, 1- stores load, you can't put as much ordnance on a Phantom that you can on a Spad or Invader and 2- speed, you are moving in and out of your engagement area to quickly to have any semblance of accuracy. The birds I listed are fast enough to get to your target, carry a good mix of ordnance and can slow down to put rounds on target. If you really want a challenge come talk to me after you do a CAS in a UH-1B with 14 2.75" HE/FRAG FFAR and 2 GAU-2B/A mini-guns ( M134 for the non Ordnance folk).
  19. ALERTS TO THREATS IN 2011 EUROPE & ELSEWHERE : BY JOHN CLEESE The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability. The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Libya and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada. The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides." The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose." Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels. The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy. Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is canceled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level. -- John Cleese - British writer, actor and tall person

  21. I'm not bothered, just surprised that it's taken almost 8 years to get a negative rating, I think it's a twisted badge of honor in a way. Now that I've said that, anymore of these and I'll release the Ordnance Mafia on the the little SOB.
  22. If that is the case try to do an install of the game in another location, like an external drive, a large capacity thumb drive or a partition and then either not patch that install or use just the first patch if it's even available anymore. If I recall OTC came out around the time of the first patch.
  23. The 6 Navy Seals responsible for the demise of Bin Laden will not be honored publicly due to the anonymity of the mission and to protect their identity. Whoever and where ever they are, I honor and salute their bravery and selflessness.

  24. Sounds like you need to add power to the mix, remember with your gear, flaps, and hook down along with maybe your speed brakes your airspeed and performance is going to go right into "coffin corner", you'll need to be on your throttle constantly. If you have ever heard a real carrier landing the engines are constantly spooling up and down to keep from stalling out and going into the water or worse into the round down or fantail. Try this, let the auto pilot take you in a couple of times, you can always override it if you need to, but watch the power settings speed and when the plane starts going dirty. After a few times you should get the hang of it.
  25. My grandfather was a mechanic from the late 20's till his retirement in 1965. He was always pulling bits of metal out of his fingers up to his forearms, seems that shavings from lathes and grinders as well as the chisel pieces embedded themselves rather deep over the years. most of the were encapsulated in scar tissue and the small ones would work their way to the surface from time to time. Never seemed to bother him much. He lived till he was 82 and always joked about the things that he would pull out of his arms.
