  3. View File Lightning f.53dh 1974/1987 "Super Lightning" - Dhimar A simple mod of stock TW Lightning F.53. It gives you two fictional variants of dhimari Lightnings, armed with Sparrow and Sidewinders, with 1987 version equipped with modern HUD and radar from F-16A. It's the first SF2 mod i decided to share. Obviously, Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack 2 is required. --------------------------Background Story In 1966, Kingdom of Dhimar, worried about Parani supersonic Tu-22 bombers and Su-7 strike aircraft, ordered 34 F.53 Lightning interceptors from BAC. While Dhimari air force pilots were more than satisfied with its performance, speed and rate of climb, its missile armament was not really adequate for the task. This has become even more apparent after kingdom started to receive its first batch of US made F-4 Phantoms, armed with radar guided, all aspect missiles. In 1972, decision was made to upgrade the Dhimari Lightnings to more modern standards. Working together with Ferranti and Raytheon, Royal Dhimari Research and Development Bureau managed to successfully modify the AI.23 radar allowing it to guide new AIM-7 sparrow missiles. Both hull and wing hardpoints were modified in order to mount US provided AIM-7s and AIM-9s. The upgrade program also added (audio only) RWR and countermeasure launchers. The modifications decreased the volume of ventral fuel tank, however this was considered to be acceptable trade-off, and between 1974 and 1976 all dhimari lightnings were converted to this variant. In 1986 BAe offered further 22 Lightnings to Dhimar - all ex-Saudi F.53 airframes, together with supply of spare parts and engines. Soon after that, further 10 Lightnings were bought from Kuwait. At first, all airframes were intended to be simply refurbished and upgraded to the same standard as rest of dhimari fighters, but - mostly because of personal insistence of Dhimari Prince Fa'ad, the decision was made to modify them even further, completely replacing 60s era avionics with significantly more advanced systems - most important of them being latest AN/APG-66 radar, together with Marconi HUD (displayed directly on pilot's windshield, like in F-14, rather than on separate glass panel). In October 1987 first such modified Lightnings entered Dhimari service. The program was deemed successful enough that in early 90s it was extended to 1972 modified airframes as well. While 1972 and 1987 variants retained the ground attack capabilities of F.53, Dhimari air force preferred to keep them as pure air defence fighters. However, few airframes transferred to mercenary Special Operation Wing were sometimes used as strike aircraft - despite being armed only with unguided weaponry. --------------------------Installation Just unpack and drop it into mod folder. --------------------------Thanks and credits Skins were made using excellent Lightning F6 2048x2048 Templates by Sundowner Dhimari fin flash by Spinners Thanks to yakarov79 and Pvince for advice about modifying stock cockpit. --------------------------- All combatace freeware licence rules apply. File Name: Parani Air Force Pack 1 File Submitter: Centurion-1 File Submitted: 16 April 2014 File Category: What If Hangar -=Parani Air Force Pack 1=- *********************** *****by Centurion 1****** *********************** This pack adds a bunch of nation specifc, flyable aircraft that depicts the fictional Parani Air Force of the 1970s. All the skins are high-resolution and custom made for this. The baddies have never looked so good :) The fighters also have kill markings included. Included are: MiG-21MF*/PFM Mirage 3 called PC Mirage 5** called PD Mirage F.1 (early type, Cyrano IV radar and no RWR. Inboard Atoll pylons included) Su-7BMK Tu-22 Il-28 and a skin for the Tu-22KD. The reason for this not being a nation specific variant is I cant make cruise missiles work for other nations than the Soviets. The MiG-21s are based on the latest MiG-21 pack by Ataribaby and include the "hard" handling model. *The MiG-21MF have provisions for mounting Matra550 Magic 1 IRMS, because of the poor performance of the Atolls. This was done IRL by the Iraqi air force in the 1980s. If you dont like it, feel free to edit it out. **Converesly, the Mirage 5s have the possibility to mount WP IRMs and dumb ordnance, like the Libyan Mirage 5D Installation: Unzip to a mod folder of your choice. 19. File Name: Desert 4 Mountain Regions+ Addon File Submitter: Centurion-1 File Submitted: 02 April 2014 File Category: Tilesets for Terrains DESERT 4 Mountain Regions+ Addon by Centurion and Piecemeal Requires Piecemeals Desert 4 Terrain available here: http://combatace.com/files/file/14551-desert-terrain-v4/ DESCRIPTION This addon is for Piecemeals excellent Desert Terrain V.4 and adds more diversity to the mountain regions by adding several new tileset types. In addition to this, Piecemeal has modified all the city regions to be more diverse and less "square" and also changed movement routes and such. Overall, this makes the region more interesting to fly over. IMPORTANT NOTICE This patch updates the airfield names from the generic D1, D2 and so on to be specific place names. This will break you campaign files!!! Changing them to fix it is a simple matter of find-and-replace-all in notepad, however. Saved files will not work any more. KNOWN ISSUES Two airfields in the mountain regions have flattening issues that I have not been able to correct, if anyone could help us fix that would be great. AI Planes are bit bouncy there but the airbases are fully usable, it is mostly a visual issue. CREDITS: Piecemeal for the excellent V.4 terrain and the city tiling work + data tweaks. TK for SF2 and the whole Dhimar/Paran scenario. Stary and JSF Aggie for the tiles used here. Centurion for doing the cut/paste operations required to bring this together. Minor tile tweaks. INSTALLATION Unzip the whole folder into your Terrains/Desert4 folder. Click here to download this file

DESERT 4 Mountain Regions+ Addon by Centurion and Piecemeal Requires Piecemeals Desert 4 Terrain available here: http://combatace.com/files/file/14551-desert-terrain-v4/ DESCRIPTION This addon is for Piecemeals excellent Desert Terrain V.4 and adds more diversity to the mountain regions by adding several new tileset types.
  21. Hi guys, so I am really loving the new Desert 4 terrain by Piecemeal, however I found the mountain regions very bland because after about 800 meters above sea level there is only one tile set type used. Since I have been working on the Iran/Iraq terrain I had some tiles up my sleeve and did a quick hack jobb in TE and TFDEdtior to make the mountains more interesting. Here are some results, will need to fix some TE errors by hand but is there any interest in this? There is not super many targets in that general area but it makes for some nice scenic moments flying there.
  22. A delicate armistice reigns over the Empire of Paran and the Kingdom of Dhimar. Both air forces patrol the border securing that the other side does not break the fragile peace in the region. Sometimes, pilots get too eager, flying along each other within Sidewinder-Range. At the end of 2008, a dhimari border patrol got visual contact on a parani squadron using the SU-27. Being regarded as a result of a sunstroke, the dhimari air force command did not take further actions in this case. In the beginning of 2009, reports of contacts with parani Flankers, using photographs as evidence, forced the high command to act. Already existing planes had to be upgraded to stand a chance against that new kind of threat and outdated planes needed to be replaced. Contracts with the US and other allies, known as the "Weapon for Blood-Policy" assured the dhimari air force the reception of some of the most modern fighter planes actually existing. At the end of 2009, a dhimari UAV was shot down by a parani plane. But this matter was classified in order to keep the armistice running. The last pic shot by the UAV was from a SU-35 with parani markings, covering the SU-35 that knocked out the UAV. Dhimar and Paran are on the verge of a new war... 25. View File [Fictional] Douglas A-4D Skyhawk (Dhimar) Douglas A-4D Skyhawk for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire A-4E Skyhawk to give a flyable A-4D (Dhimar) in service with the Dhimari Air Force with markings for; No.6 Squadron - 'The Eagles' No.7 Squadron - 'The Rattlesnakes' BACKSTORY During the early to mid-1950's almost every US Navy aircraft programme hit some sort of propulsion trouble with either engines that were either down on thrust or simply so unreliable that they were a hazard to flight safety. Douglas were no exception and the SkyKnight and Skyray programmes were hit especially hard and the A4D Skyhawk programme initially didn't fare much better with the J65 down on thrust and the Pentagon bizarrely ordering that reconditioned Air Force J65's should be used for Skyhawk production. Ed Heinemann's wish to shoehorn the Rolls-Royce Avon into the Skyhawk fell apart when a production licence was granted to Westinghouse who then decided to only produce (with Navy funding but without telling Douglas ) a six-tenths scale version as the XJ64 giving less thrust than the J65! However, by 1955 the Navy BuWeps had decided to fund the promising Pratt & Whitney JT8, essentially a scaled-down JT3 or J57 and by 1957 the resultant J52 was running sweetly on the bench and Ed Heinemann could plan growth versions of his brilliant 'Bantam Bomber'. At about the same time the Navy were hinting that perhaps a more flexible machine was required than the high-altitude nuclear bomber of the original A4D requirement and the increased thrust of the J52 meant that two more stores pylons could be added and higher gross weights permitted. Douglas had planned to introduce the engine in the A4D-3 (A-4D) and A4D-5 (A-4E) variants but the US Navy cancelled the A4D-3 in 1959 and slowed the A4D-5 programme down. Douglas then looked at export opportunities resurrecting the A4D-3 designation to produce a multi-role fighter version later designated the A-4D which introduced the new J52 engine rated at 8,500lbs thrust plus a small and simple multi-mode radar. Oil-rich Dhimar became the launch customer ordering 60 A-4D's in 1961 and these were delivered in early 1963 initially to No.6 Squadron of the Dhimari Air Force who operated the type until 1982. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the A-4Dh folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the A-4Dh folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to salvatorestupido for the USN Aggressor skin used for the No.7 Squadron machine. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 2 - November 5th, 2023 Submitter Spinners Submitted 08/22/2010 Category What If Hangar
