About This File

Modified cockpit and data ini files for the SF2 F-4B, F-4B_65, F-4B_67 and F-4J Phantom II aircraft.
Based on SF2 July 2013 ini files.

Adds AIM-7 Sparrow capability to the inner wing hardpoints and new missile status panel function to
indicate all available air-to-air missiles.

Cockpit ini files:
- increased sight diameter value to 60 mil
- modified missile status panel lights
All available a2a missiles are now indicated by the amber RDY lights. No light = empty station
Green missile select light is available for all a2a missile stations

Data ini files:
- new inner wing stations (ID 17 + 18) for AIM-7 Sparrow SAHM missiles.
Missiles are rail-launched, not ejected.
- gun pod capability on the outer wing hardpoints added

Weapon menu notice:
When loading Sparrow missiles on the wing stations, unload the AIM-9 missiles (or it looks ugly ;) )

Let me commend you for still working on updating these aircraft so many years after the original release. I don't recall my source(s), but from memory I seem to recall that aside from the original blocks of F-4Bs, no F-4 versions were actually wired to carry AIM-7s on the wing pylons. I am fairly certain the F-4J did not have that capability. I am pretty sure the F-4B lost that ability at some time in its life... maybe by the time it became the F-4N? I think the capability was lost when wiring and other things were changed to support later AIM-9 variants (different seeker cooling) and advanced air-to-ground stores. Photos of F-4s armed with 6 x AIM-7s are pretty rare.

Sparrow wing stations, could be the case, perhaps when the ac were modified with SEAM ...

I can always update :)

The first (iirc) two USN MiG kills in SEA were achieved with AIM-7 fired from wing stations, though. Rail launched, much better ignition reliability.

I am a huge fan of the AIM-7 and love the 6 missile loadout. I was disappointed to find that the USAF didn't retain that capability and the Navy notoriously found the AIM-9 to be the better weapon for their situation where the reliability was almost nil after any amount of captive flights given the hard landings.

Are you sure that the F-4J could fire AIM-7 from the wing stations ? In general, this mod is an excellent idea.

Yes. The May 1975 with last change Feb 1978 F-4J NATOPS has all the related info in the station charts.
