JediMaster Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 If you're hit by a few small-caliber (20mm or less) hits or a glancing missile hit (shrapnel) you'll get damage like that. Quote
+Gocad Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 If you're hit by a few small-caliber (20mm or less) hits or a glancing missile hit (shrapnel) you'll get damage like that. True. The damage that could be seen on the pics I had posted on the previous page had been caused by a single hit from a 23mm cannon. Quote
tmdgm Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 True. The damage that could be seen on the pics I had posted on the previous page had been caused by a single hit from a 23mm cannon. Too bad, I'd love to see more of that. Yup all my settings are at hard except for the HUD setting. Quote
FOTF Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 The removal of my wing was from a earth to wing encounter....flying a little too "Map of the earth" for comfort and trimmed a little excess metal off. Based on the amount of control surface that was removed from my plane, and the fact that I lost virtually no performance...I would be willing to say that is a faulty damage model. That plane landed just as easily with one wing as with two. Quote
super61 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 This reminds me of the Israeli F-15 that got it's wing blown off after a colision with an A-4 and the pilot manged to land it. Yep you're right. It was on the history channel and also on YouTube. Quote
+Stary Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 This one got it pretty bad... Maybe two or three rounds from shilka Quote
Lt. James Cater Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Damn, too bad my computer is in storage. I have a whole lot of pics of aircraft shot to peices and still flying. One great pic is of a Crusader that i took in TOOO close to the MIG-17 i was bouncing. I probaly collided with the MIG about a second and a half after puling the trigger. The Crudsader was almost impossible to control after thaat but stayed in the air. Quote
Lt. James Cater Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I never had these thing because I...I... play on easyBut once I was flying a Bronco without wings and in flames. Ejecting is something useless in SF series. You can´t see the pilot ejecting, and you´re going to end as a POW.I prefer to die in the plane (HARA KIRI!!!lol) You more or less have to know your location at all times. I've gotten nailed hard up in Packs 5 and 6 a few times yet made it either back over the Red river or made it out over the South China Sea before ejecting. Sometimes, an approach to a target has to have the nearest safe areas factored into the route planning. Quote
Hawk MMS Posted September 19, 2007 Author Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) Mission intercept inbound strike against airbase... status failed. bombs went off as I limped the starfighter back to base. At first it sounded like a good idea then i realized... Edited September 19, 2007 by USMC Hawker Quote
Rambler 1-1 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I have a story and a half.... I was flying an escort mission in an F-14 and we ran into a large group (10) of MiG-19s. I got four with 'winders, two with sparrows, then I took a hit and lost the other two sparrows, so I got 2 more MiGs with guns, but then I was out of ammo, or my gun jammed. Not sure which. Anyway, I saw the last MiG was lining up on the last bomber I was supposed to be escorting (out of two-one was now a smoking crater), and I didn't want to put a 'failed mission" on my profile, so I came up fom below on the '19, rolled over and pulled back, and my port wing hit the cockpit while my port vertical stabilizer hit around the engine bay. He blew up promptly, and I went into a bit of a cartwheel, but I still managed to get on approach to base with one wing and one vertical stabilizer, untill I stalled and had to punch out. I died. Bugger! Anyhoo, now I know that neither of these phenomina are unusual. I would have posted my screenshots, but I lost them. Is there a fix so bailing out is more survivable? Dang, that's a long post. is that allowed? Quote
+drdoyo Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 (edited) Well, these aren't my "most" damaged flyables, but these I did have screens of. I don't remember how, but I lost the nose gear while conducting early skin/weapon/and flight testing of my Su-33 upgrade for the Su-27. A more interesting situation occured during a VF-103 campaign mission in the Final Dawn campaign. I was conducting a fighter sweep and had engaged an enemy flight of bombers. I was regrouping my flight after the engagment when I saw a Mig-29 yards in front at my altitude on an almost recriprical course.....almost. Before I could react my tomcat shuddered, there was an explosion and warning lights lit on the instrument panel. Once I emerged from the debris and regained control I took stock of the situation. The MiG was totally wiped out, and the screens show the carnage wrought upon my tomcat. ....The end of the campaign for Victory 201, She wasn't repaired in time to continue serving. Mannie Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Can I play, too? Now and then I do get reminded of that those Badgers have tail guns not just for show... Still got most of them to have the mission to be considered successful. Decided then to play safe and bailed out... I even made it back and landed the cat on an aircraft carrier . Cheers. Quote
Mazzocco Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 (edited) F-21. Part of right wing MIA. Managed to land it. F-14 Tomcat, shot apart by ZSU-23-4. Happens all the time. A-10. Took out a T-72 with part of the left wing. Not the best picture, but the only one I took. You may need to view it full size. Is there a dedicated screenshot thread somewhere? If not, maybe there should be. Edited September 22, 2007 by Mazzocco Quote
+NGHENGO Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Everybody of aeronautic entusiast know how strong was the "Thud" frame......... Look at this pic in the end i was forced to eject just near the airbase...... Can you guess wich plane is the one non Thud backing home pcture, it's a Wip test...... Mau. Quote
FastCargo Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 That looks a hell of a lot like an Northrop A-9. FastCargo PS Actually, now that I look at it closer...not quite right. The A-9 was bigger, and the engines were below the wing. So, I'm stumped at the moment. Quote
Talos Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I don't know why, but that just popped into my head when I saw it. Guess my gut is right. Quote
+76.IAP-Blackbird Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I love the cat hope you like the pic, an Archer hit my tail in a Dogfight with a Mig 21 PFN Quote
Shin_kazama Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I think I may have you beaten Lost the right wing, right vertical stabilizer and both engines. Glided back to nearest airbase where I exploded on trying to land (admittedly this was on the "easy" flight settings) reminds me of that israeli air force pilot (yup, F-15 too), that hit an unseen IAF A-4 "Adversary" trainer. the guy laned in one piece. then i had this even which i tried to run away from 8, yes, 8, Su-27's. they all hit me at the most ridiculus time, and i ended up missing both my outer wings. yup, and i still got 2 more. the engines were ok, i was flying on hard settings. i landed ok too. i had only have to maintain 280 kts to slow my descent. also on my trusty A-10, a Zoo kicked half of my right wing off. also landed in one peice. and i tried to take off again. i again landed in one piece. tw7222 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 This is what happens when you think everyone you just jumped is in front of you... Similar to other Tomcat shots. She is a tough bird. I actually made it back. Quote
Dysko Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I remember a mission in which I fought against MiG-29s with the Tomcat. I saw an explosion of a missile that hit me, but there was no apparent damage, I could even shoot down other 2 Fulcrums and return to base. Then, when I extracted the landing gear, the right gear was missing... (landed without any problem though). Quote
Wolf65 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I once got a missle up my tailpipe, the engine died, lost one of gears and the wing was damaged. Still i managed to land it on the ground and finish the misiion, though I probably wouldnt be able to get to base. Quote
ironroad Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 (edited) I used a F-8D to saw a mig-21 in half using the tail and made it back.. On countless occasions I have had aft sections of the F-14 blown off and still managed to make it back fine. Edited November 11, 2007 by ironroad Quote
triplethr3at Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I was flying the MiG-23 and had shot down four aircraft leaving me with no guns or missiles left. I got behind an A-10 and sawed off his right rudder and stabilizer by raming my wing into it. No damage but it did say that I got injured in the debriefe. Quote
