Marut.

I have only been modding for a short time and let me tell you - that learning curve is STEEP. The awesome thing about the community is that I've been helped by every single person that I've asked for assistance. Lexx jumped in for the MiG-9 FM and did a fantastic job, even though he's not satisfied with it... Once again, the learning curve is steep people...

The things being released now are of very much higher quality than anything I can put out alone. I'm glad that my stuff has been received well - because there is a very high level of expectation, particularly from those of you that are modders, and I think it is those expectations that make people shy away from attempting to mod the sim. I have things in the pipeline that will take time because I can build 4 3D models with numerous skins faster than I can make one FM that almost of acts like the real aircraft being modeled.

Here's my beef: I've seen Veltro ask numerous times for help with FM's and skins and seen no one from the non-modding community at large take up his offers. I'd like to ask (in the nicest way possible) for some of you gimmie, gimmie's to attempt to make a flight model or a skin or a loadout or a hangar screen or whatever you think might be helpful. Making the first attempts to mod this sim - then grasping what it is that you are trying to do - and completing a project - no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to you - will put you on the road to becoming a modder yourself. You don't have to be great like many here to be appreciated... Hell, I had no experience with 3D Max before I bought my copy - none. I taught myself with the help of Mustang's tutorials and Capun's guidance. Now I feel like I have graduated into being a half assed model maker and I'm getting much better and faster and some day I hope to graduate into being considered a modder myself. Veltro is, I'm sure, the same way.

Just my two cents.

True Timmy! I am a modder also, even though I do mainly skins. I used to be a gimmie gimmie until I figured out that constantly pestering people on the status of their projects doesnt make them go any faster it just gets them annoyed. A tip for you gimmie gimmie's! Just be patient and good mods shall be released when they are done!

Well the thing about Veltro is that he doesn't really seem to pay a lot of attention when you try to explain to him about meshflow and interpreting geometry. I'm quite convinced I'm one of the "rivetcounters" in question.

No you are not, you are a modder like he is. You are trying to show him the ropes. It's when the "non skilled" people jump on him that irks other people.

Depends what you mean by "non skilled", I'm not in the "modder" category here and I may have looked like a rivet counter to you or veltro (I sent a pm apologising if I offended him in any way) but I've been doing 3d work for quite some time and had similar quirks with models and was trying to help him improve the mig by sharing some things that have helped me.

Maybe its one of those things where you should send a PM or email or even try to get people on voice and you can explain what you are trying to say. Everyone knows that text conveys no emotion and this community from all over the world, some things get lost in the translations.

"Well the thing about Veltro is that he doesn't really seem to pay a lot of attention when you try to explain to him about meshflow and interpreting geometry" See that right there doesn't come off that well.

OH GIVE ME AN F'ing break dude !!!!! and get off your high horse !!!! Been doing this for a few months now and im the first one to admit it..theres a big difference from your bias term " he doesn't really seem to pay a lot of attention" instead of still trying to learn learning..I have a family and a job to support them and a mortgage to pay.. Spare Time is a rare commodity for me,,,How long have you been modeling..let see if you where able to create high quality models right away..sheesh can’t believe some people...because of people like you, many other models have been stopped , and people left..Instead of playing god and judge ..Try to explain how to do something :protest::protest:

See, we got off on the wrong foot here. I'm very sorry if I come across as an arrogant ass but I'm really honest about helping people with tips. And no, I never had l337 sk1llz back when I started with Milkshape. So I apologize if I sound like a prick at times.

That said, I have told you in several different threads here and on simhq to check your models meshflow and to post wires of it. Why post wires? Well to begin with it's way easier for everybody to find errors in the modelling and in the odd case you have a kickass correct model, someone else can look at your wires and say "so that's the way to do it!". Hence I usually try to post wires of my stuff.

Finally, you should be aware that a lot of online modelling communities are nowhere near as civil as this one - Just ask anyone who's ever done models for Counter-Strike.

And another thing:

If you have troubles with modelling technique, it's never a bad idea to go to places such as www.threedy.com where there are lots and lots of amateur- and professional artists who can offer advice.

Yeah, and I stated in the thread that the problem with the model is that you've stretched the fuselage "tube" to create the canopy when in reality it is rather a second tube merged with the main fuselage tube. Look at the wires of my F-1 to get the idea:

You can see that there is a thin but definitive demaraction line right below where the canopy starts. The easiest way to do this IMO is to simply model the beginning of the "hump" on the top of the fuselage (where it blends together with the usually boxy intakes) and then simply extrude edges down towards the nose to create the basic shape of the canopy, and then creating polys to connect everything together.

Well if anything it forced you to learn proper discipline. I even managed to do a pretty good character model in it, although it was a pain. Max is infinitely easier to work with.

Speaking of weapon models, here are some I made for HL mods:

And for Quake 2 (less than 500 polys for these; I think 490 for the FG-42 and about 300 for the Mors, both on single 256^2 maps)

I never liked Firearms much. What I've played is DDay on Quake 2, and CS, DOD, Tour of Duty, Global Warfare, The Specialists and Hostile Intent on Half-Life.

I TRULY hope I'm not guilty of having jeapordised the chance's of Capun releasing the HAL HF-24 MARUT  I don't "think" I did, and I certainly hope I didn't.
