+Dave Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Was going through the weps pack and was looking up various SAM's and compared them to their real world counterparts. SA-9 In game IR Guided with optical back up Real World IR Guided with optical back up SA-15 In game Radio Command with optical back up Real World Semi Active Homing Radar with optical back up SA-8 In game Radio Command with optical back up Real World Semi Active Homing Radar with optical back up SA-6 In game Semi Active Homing Radar with optical back up Real World Semi Active Homing Radar with optical back up SA-3 In game Semi Active Homing Radar Real World Semi Active Homing Radar SA-13 In game IR Guided with optical back up Real World IR Guided with optical back up SA-19 In game Semi Active Homing Radar with optical back up Real World Semi Active Homing Radar with optical back up SA-7 In game IR Guided with optical back up Real World IR Guided I think this might help answer why sometimes chaff, ECM and or stealth might not work. I mean if it has optical back up, unless you cloak, you are a viable target. Quote
Viggen Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Thats interesting. I knew that SA-6 got me. What about the SA-2. Quote
+Dave Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 Thats interesting. I knew that SA-6 got me. What about the SA-2. I didn't bother to look it up as I know it didn't have optical back up. Quote
Sgt.KAR98 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Are all these SA´s here to download? There was one that is scary.Looks like a lot of flares coming in your direction. I guess it´s the 19. Quote

+Wrench Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 The missiles are in the weapons pak The associated launchers and radars are in various vehicles pak (ie: Pasko's SAMs and Vehicle Pak, available in both Desert and Euro camos) Also available are the Stinger Site, upgraded Chapparels and a host of others...just be aware there may be a problem with the S-60 (or is it the KS-60??? -- some kind of LOD issue, so don't use it) Take a look in this thread: Link!! -->Filling In the Blanks: Ground Objects <--LINK!! There you are!" *BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAM!!!* Well, I'm personally greatful that the missiles don't talk like those damn turrets in Portal. Didn't know optical backup was modeled in the game...lack of attention to detail on my part. Quote
+FastCargo Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Interesting too...seems like we may have to alter a few SAMs... Wonder if it would make them more or less of a challenge. FastCargo Quote
+BUFF Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I didn't bother to look it up as I know it didn't have optical back up. I'm sure that the SA-2 has optical backup? Quote
+Dave Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 I'm sure that the SA-2 has optical backup? Nope it was a radar guided only. The radar could only lock onto one target at a time and it could direct all is missiles against that target. The launchers may be dug into pits, left at ground level or hardened in concrete revetments. The battery command post fire control team and its computer, the Fan Song missile control radar, the P-12 Spoon Rest early warning radar, and typically six reload rounds on their articulated trailers are all located in the center of the launchers array. http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/russia/airdef/v-75.htm Quote
+BUFF Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 SA-2F (1968->) has an optical backup. (So does SA-3) Quote
+Gocad Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I mean if it has optical back up, unless you cloak, you are a viable target. *CLONK!* (cue obscure movie reference) scnr Quote
+Dave Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 SA-2F (1968->) has an optical backup.(So does SA-3) But it is not a guidance method, like with a control stick. It is a targeting tool to let the command guidance work in a heavy ECM environment. Big difference. Quote
kukulino Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I want have SAM models close to real SAMs. According to your first post are "problematic" these SAMs: SA-15 SA-8 SA-7 SA-8 - you have Radio Command with optical back up in game (in your first post), but I have Semi-Active Radar Homing and no optical back up in game (WP Jul 2006) SA-15 - in MF pack is Radio Command Guided with optical backup (as you wrote) + Terminal guidance SA-7 - in game with optical back up, in world without optical backup So all I need is set parametres in Weapon editor according real world? So what we may need to do it set the parameters to real world spec and post them in the weps thread and show people how to make adjustments accordingly. Quote
+Typhoid Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I didn't bother to look it up as I know it didn't have optical back up. wanna bet? Quote
+Typhoid Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 But it is not a guidance method, like with a control stick. It is a targeting tool to let the command guidance work in a heavy ECM environment. Big difference. not quite. but not willing to discuss here. Quote
+Dave Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 not quite. but not willing to discuss here. Thus why I didn't go into details. Quote
+Typhoid Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Thus why I didn't go into details. right. OK, let me step back into a level of generalities and including the broad group of systems. In this SIMULATION what we want to see is the approximate replication of the overall system capabilities of the various weapons. In this regards, there might be something in the tables of capabilties that might not be exactly accurate, but might make the particular weapon perform IN THE SIMULATION roughly equivelant to how the particular weapon performs in real life. Also keep in mind the overall system, not just the particular missile or weapon airframe in question. so, having said that, my suggestion is to keep the EO for several of the radar/command guided SAMs. Quote
Stevo75 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Hey guys some of you have given me advice on stuff already such as which flight sim to get, ive chosen WoE. Now having done this where do i start on these forums for patching and getting some extra planes an mods. do i need to be an expert in computer wizardry to setup these addons or is it quite simple? Hoooa. Quote
+JediMaster Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Just to clarify, am I to understand that some of the details of a 40 yr old Russian SAM system are classified?? Quote

Viggen Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 yes, sir. Could that be becuase nations still use it? Quote

Kirsten Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Without a doubt. Even more probably because the countermeasures are still classified .........? Aju, Derk Quote
