Holy CRAP! Them is some serious templates!

 

I remember someone's website (I forgot who) who has a BUNCH of F-4B skins...very nice. But the downloads didn't give you a clue how big the files were until you unzipped them...each paint scheme (including decals) was an average of 300MB EACH!!!

 

Actually, this is snappers baby, I'm just helping out. Snapper, chat with Sundowner to see if he can get you those templates.

 

I'm real happy with all of the shapes for this bird plus the ini edits to make certain parts of the A model disappear. But the tail bump is driving me nuts...it just doesn't quite shadow right. I get the feeling it has something to do with the smoothing parameters.

Yeah, the Phantom skins by mytai don't look like they are demanding much space on your hard drive...but apparently tgas and bmps can be packed quite well.

Still VERY much a work in progress. Tweaked the tail bump (so to speak) with smoothing, specular, gloss and polygon editing with much better results.

To be honest, I haven't even started messing with that part. I'm not sure that it needs to be tweaked anyway.

 

Current status for those interested:

 

Addon models: Complete unless something comes up.

 

Skin (model and parts): In progress

 

Decals: Not started

 

INI work: Almost complete - maybe some minor tweaking needed. Debating giving Raven sidewinder ability or not (appearently, it was capable, but I don't think it was ever used). Other than fuel tanks, I don't think the Raven ever carried ANYTHING externally. But I'm not smart on all the F-111 variants. Also, I think the Raven was later upgraded with the better engines than what the A model had. Apparently there were also some big cockpit changes, but I don't think that's going to happen...

 

I think the skin and decals are the last big hurdles.

Thread from the dead...

 

The more we examined the model, the less happy we were with the current state of the F-111 (and by extention, the EF-111). After some convincing by Dave, I began to do some tweaks to the MAX file...and the more I tweaked, the more I found to fix.

 

What you see is the result. Though it will never be as good as a full up completely rebuilt model, what you see here is the result of a lot of repair, and a total remapping of the model. If you're not sure...compare this model (which has a 5 minute slap together paint job) with the excellent Sundowner painted previous model. Though Sundowner's work can cover a lot...it can't fix some of the stuff that existed if you look closely.

 

Several things have been fixed, mitigated, or rebuilt from scratch. I think you'll be happy with the results. It's now off to the paint shop...
