I read somewhere, it's a cheaper, cost effective substitute for the TU-160.

It's the way of the future...

Compensating for something there, Russia?

Quite possibly the ugliest thing I've seen in a long time.

Those 8 inch 50's would make the USS Newport News(Last all gun Cruiser)(21,000 tons) slide sideways in the water.

I wonder what they would do to that thing? It would probably go backward if it would have stayed together.

I love the Nazi flying saucer!!

He** of an airplane for back in the day. Just think if it would have become operational.

Well, after watching wave after wave of AI controlled F-100s get torched by the tail gunners of a flight of Il-28s, I am not sure how they would do against the Russian flying dreadnaughts.

As ridiculous as they might be, someone very skilled did put a whole lot of time into them.

Any good pilot would find and attack the weak points, from below :ok:

This thing began to approach Zeppelin size. K-7 aroused intense interest among the public roundabout Stalingrad during the test flights, until the crash.

BIG target for fighters

I dunno m8/m8ette. Zero vs B-17. Aircraft arms were still mostly machine guns in the 1930s. Sikorsky's Ilya Moroumetz's had a positive kill ratio against German scouts. It was the "B-29" of 1915 doing alot of big ugly compensation over and behind the frontlines. :good:

Ah found it...B-29 time travel back to 1914 ~> http://www.ctrl-c.liu.se/misc/ram/ilyamour.html

By the time the B-29 was hitting japanese targets enemy fighters with good pilots were far and few between WWII showed that without good fighter escorts

Bombers were toast.(Early 8th AF) But I guess WWI did not have capable fighters or pilots (lol)

Zero vs B-17 -- Bf-109Dora vs K-7 -- 1930s ~> fighter arms were still mainly small calibre MG.

We discuss "B-29" for the Ilya Moruomets~esuqe *looks* only...crew in glass nose. You have to visit the site (or another) to see what it looked like.

I agree. I was just wondering how our AI friends would do.

Flying bombers online in Il-2 hyperlobby games, I am always amazed at how many pilots will make one decent pass from above/below/ahead, fail to shoot me down, and then settle in directly behind me where two or three of my gunners have a clear shot at their engines.

Ah, found it from some years back. A diary by Amelia Bourne-Phipps, mentioning this K-7 monster. I don't think it ever left USSR, so I'd guess Amelia was there at the time. Here's the rub...

No wonder! We hear that there is an aircraft requesting emergency landing permission - and not just any aircraft, but a Russian bomber, a Kalinin K-7, a veritable flying battleship, easily the biggest thing flying - and our Airfield is only just long enough in the best of conditions, which today is definitely NOT. They had requested to land far out West on Vostok Island, but the Authorities refused to let them anywhere near their airspace. (Some Political thing, by all accounts - at any rate, it will be the first actual Red Russian aircraft we have seen here.)

Though we could hardly hear her over the storm, Miss Devinski called for volunteers to help the airport crews - naturally we all volunteered, even "Soppy" Forsythe from Missy K's bunch....

Most likely -- exactly how untrained or inexperienced fighter pilots attacked the real things, back in the day. What do HyperLobby newbies try when flying P-40s against Ki-27s in that sim? The same thing the Flying Tiger P-40 pilots tried (only one time) against Ki-27s in violation of Chennault's orders. Turnfight! The *similarity* ends there of course!! AVG pilots got shot up, fortunately by small caliber MG, and listened to Chennault after that. :good:
