in the future released

Recommended Posts

I wanted to ask if there is a addon that includes new planes.

I especially like the Dolphin, the Fokker D II, and the Albatros CX.

Released in the future?

perhaps with some modifications to the AI in combat even if they have one against ten, not ever run away, but they are all massacred without even groped to run away.

regards

hmm... I think this has been covered quite a bit already.

I will get my Snipe before your Dolphin I hope!

Francis Gillet, America's number two scoring ace (behind Rickenbacker) flew only the Dolphin and scored 20 kills in it (for the record, 14 of them were Fokker DVIIs, so the Dolphin was either VERY good or the DVII is highly over-rated). In fact, he was the top scoring Dolphin pilot from any nation. Three of the top 10 Dolphin aces were Americans.

I consider it an insult to all Yank OFF pilots that there is no Dolphin in OFF. :search:

I'll let the Canucks lobby for the Snipe. Barker was one of theirs.

Actually we need both :victory:

The Dolphin would be great. But the Snipe was only in active service for a few months before the war ended. So I don't think it's a priority for the OFF team (sorry widowmaker). But it did have that lovely piece of British mechanical precision, the Bentley Rotary No 2, 230hp mmmmmmmmm {dribble}.

Interestingly all the Snipe aces were Aussies.

We have a looooooong list of craft we'd like to add. All we need now is 24 more modellers lol.

I hope you don't think it's necessary to also supply 100 skins per new aircraft? Just some new aircraft will be fine. Let the skinners in the community do add-on artwork.

Would love to see the N.24 and the N.28, but I think 2 seaters are a concern. Part of what made Red Baron II/3d work was the presence of many different 2 seaters you could escort/attack/encounter. The more seasoned pilots who go back to those days will know what I'm talking about. Would be nice to see that again.

I agree with you, but Sopwith Dolphin and Snipe would be great!

I agree with Winston - having a 100 different skins for every type of aircraft is not absolutely necessary. The community skinners are more than capable of adding extra skins.

Of course it would be great to have even more scouts, but OFF absolutely needs more two seaters. The French for example don't have any. Bombers and reconnaissance aircraft were the main prey of scouts, after all.

As for addon aircraft, I would love to see the Morane Parasol.

We don't make skins instead of craft ;). Modellers make the models.. and texture artists make the skins..

Out of the 25 or so modellers who said they wanted to make models, 5 (yep 5) actually contributed a finished model (counting all 3 phases). So the rest of them start making one or two quality models, then vanished a while later before finishing one. It's a hell of a time sapping thing maybe.

Now we have 2 modellers anyway so we hope to have your [insert your favourite craft here] ready soon ! ;)

I've helped dev a mod for HL2 involving the American Revolution for the past few years, and "vanishing" contributors are a universal problem. We'd have people come, work on a project a little ways, then just leave. It'd be nice if they left the half-finished project though!

I think what happens is people get into the game, work awhile, run out of steam, and then just go off and do other things. It's perfectly fine, but their eyes for the project are often bigger than their stomachs, so to speak. One of those things I guess...

What I will say is that OFF has had a very good record in terms of team members staying on. The project began several years ago, and some of the guys have been there the whole time. I envy that level of commitment, Pol. I wish our game had more guys like that.

I will also add you guys have been really responsive in terms of forum input involving the game as well. What still sticks out in my mind is the discussions we had on the old board prior to P2, when you were working on the Nieuports. I remember the forum goers dug up a bunch of Nieuport cockpit and detail pictures and put them up. Awhile later you came back with an N.17 that looked just like the pictures we'd found. That was first rate work, and it really felt like the team had done its homework, so to speak. I think the final product has shown that to be thecase.

I for one think 2-seaters are more important that the scouts. We have all the main 'players' for the scouts, barring 3 British planes (Snipe, DH5, Dolphin), 3 French planes (N.24, N.27, N.28) and maybe 4 German planes (Fokker D.VI, Fokker D.VIII, SSW D.III, Pflaz D.XII).

We really need 2 seaters for both side spanning the entire war.

Just imagine seeing the Caldron G.III or G.IV... or the Big Ack, the Rumpler, HP 0/400... etc.

I'd rather see those rather than 10 more scouts. You have nothing to shoot at.

One idea to get more planes, modelers involved, maybe offer the " purchase a plane" route, as the other sim is doing. A percentage can go to BH&H and to the modeler. Of course I would suggest that all the planes must be reviewed by the OFF team to insure the quality that is now present in BH&H. The OFF team could also setup guidelines and specifications to follow for the development of planes for the modelers.

I am not suggesting that OFF fix or work on 2rd party planes that are submitted, just monitor the QC. Any change would be the modelers responsibility, maybe come up with an install code for them too, to keep them proprietary? All the add-on planes approved would then be available on the OFF web site for purchase and download.

This is just a suggestion.

Cheers,

WF2

I'd cheerfully cough up for an add-on aircraft as would most people around these parts as have posted on the subject. We'd need some idea of likely cost for a professional 3D modeller to create new aircraft and an invitation to tender might need drawing up to ensure compatibility and quality etc.

I don't know what needs doing to convert from 3D format xyz to CFS3 format or what poly limits there are but if it's easily done then Hell I'd happily just buy one from a commercial 3D site and donate it.

As far as new aircraft, I support OvS' point but the most expedient solultion would be to fill in any career-stopping blanks first, IMHO.

The year 1915 (and 1916 also to some extent) in particular suffers from the lack of two seaters - there really isn't much to shoot down as an Eindecker pilot.

Which is why my vote goes for the Parasol. Killing two birds with one stone, or so to speak. The High Wing monoplane which the OFF scenery so richly deserves, along with a top speed of 71mph, which makes her Fokker Fodder for the EIII's

I'd second that, especially as I've just finished reading Sagittarius Rising for the umpteenth time. If people complained about the Eindecker, just wait for the moans about the Parasol... assuming the FM's accurate. :fie::biggrin:

Id love to see a parasol(s). And some Rumplers and a Taube or two. But just so Uncleal doesnt have to worry about it, dont include any high atlitude supersonic sidewinder-armed jet fighters!

If you play DiD with a parasol...you won't see out very many missions!..so best take in the scenery while you can!
