Open Cockpit Night at the USAF Museum

Recommended Posts

The USAF Museum a couple times a year does an open cockpit night. The place was packed and the twins were getting tired so I didnt get to see the SR-71. But I did get some good pics of some other stuff.

Ok this final pic, sorry for the quality, is in the space and missile section of the museum. I was showing Sheila and my twins the Minuteman III system I used to work on early in my career. Sheila looks down and says, "Hey Dave, isn't that you?" Sure enough it was. That pic was taken for Airman Magazine when I was at FE Warren AFB. Not Grand Forks, like the picture says. I remember the shoot well because the photographer had me remove my glasses because he was afraid of lens glare. But who can forget that nose. Well I showed one of the staff and he agreed it was me and they are going to correct the photo. Talk about cool.

That is uber cool bro! Being on a photo in a museum... hey wait, don't museum's of history supposed to be displaying stuff that's really, really old? Just teasing bro! Seriously though, that is flat out cool! I would be honored if there was a picture of me in a museum... especially a USAF museum.

They had the SR-71 open, the A-10, the A-37, F-22 (which had cardboard cutouts of MFD showing and not the actual thing). I didnt make to the WWII stuff so I am not sure what they had opened. The place was packed and some lines were a hour wait to see the pit.

So when the pilots puke they don't have to clean it up?

Something their psychiatrists claimed about it having a calming effect on the pilot or some such tripe. It just makes me FEEL green.
