Looking forward to the Kidd, and the Murasame looks beautiful. I quite like the look of the Haruna class DDh-141, it could just be the two forward mounts

SBC-27A or C would not be distinguishable in the game because only difference is diff type of catapult. This is not a real big deal in the game except the SBC-27 or 27A just don't need the steam catapult effect because they where fitted with hydraulic cats. The C where fitted with a pair of steam cats. No C's with steam cats where used in Korea. CV's 9,33,34,39 where all rebuilt to ( or in 34's case finished to SBC-27 standard ) SBC-27A standard and used in Korea.

The real work horses of the Korean war where the long-hull CV's 21,31,32,36,37,45,47. These remained close to their '43-'44 specs but where given a jet aircraft capable upgrade which was not given an official "SBC designation" which included improved hydraulic cats on the bow with vertical louvered JBD's. They also had their bridges semi enclosed. They did not have the new island with the escalator on the side and reworked funnel like the SBC-27 series did. They retained the four 5in. turrets. They did have the number of 20mms and port and starboard 40mm tubs drastically reduced.

This pic is CV-47 USS Philippine Sea a non SBC long hull with the jet capable upgrade. Notice the vertical louvered JBD's

This pic is CV-32 USS Leyte another non SBC long hull with jet capable upgrade. Notice semi enclosed bridge and other details.

Please PM me if you need any info. You have my full support!

Thanks a lot, that info helps me out tremendously. I can always use more good quality photos like you posted. In particular, I need some before and after (open/enclosed) pics of the bridge, and anything that can show me the layout of the deck lights, and examples of post-refit gun arrangements.

It would be nice if you could post a video tutorial (from start to finish) on youtube, then maybe others could get invovled.

I don't have any video recording software, but I will gladly post a picture tutorial (pictorial?) of the basic steps in making a ship model. I'm really overwhelmed with requests, so the more people building boats, the better.

Looking forward to the Kidd, and the Murasame looks beautiful. I quite like the look of the Haruna class DDh-141, it could just be the two forward mounts

Thanks! Murasame is uploaded and awaiting approval. Asagiri has been updated. I like the Haruna too; the two forward 5" guns are wonderfully old-school. She's on the to-do list.

H everyone. Real life got incredibly busy again and I had to take a break from modding, and I'm going to be heading to the US for a couple of weeks in April, but I'm getting done as much as I can in the mean time.

I'm uploading a new model, the China Cat class patrol boat that I had started in the mini-tutorial I posted a few months back.

post-33721-0-85548000-1394949327_thumb.jpg

Three different versions are available, including the rocket-armed version in the screenshot above. They're used extensively by Iran, so it might make a nice addition to Operation Darius, desert campaigns, and so on. It's a simple low-poly model, so you can easily have dozens and dozens of them on screen to simulate a speed boat swarm.

Also, since I was in a "littoral" sort of mood, I took some time to update the Freedom class. The first thing I did was remap the whole thing so that it fits on a 2048x1024 texture instead of 2048x2048, saving everyone 50% of the GPU memory with no loss of quality. Next, I added some lights on the helo deck. Lastly, I rebuilt the main gun and RAM launcher, as I was never really satisfied with how they came out, and I am planning to use those weapons on other ships anyway.

post-33721-0-73106200-1394949331_thumb.jpg

The new version will be uploaded later today.

As for other projects, the Kidd/Kee Lung class is coming along smoothly, since I can recycle many components from other projects. the long-hull Essex is still a ways off, I'm afraid, but I've already finished mapping the deck, main and secondary guns. I still have a lot of work to do on the island and other details though, so please bear with me.

Here is the Kidd so far.

post-33721-0-86516700-1395155030.jpg

I just finished the new fire control radars (SPG-51 and SPG-60). There's still a good deal of work to do, but I'm going to try using some textures from the stock Spruance so that she looks as much as possible like her parent class in-game.

Just testing out the Kidd and checking weapons/detection, decal placement, shadow issues, etc. There's still some detail to be added and the textures are just getting started.

I'm taking a trip to the US to visit family for a few weeks, so unfortunately I won't be able to get any work done during that time. This ship should be done around the end of April after I get back. Thanks again for your patience and support!

WBS, once you are done with the Kidd class you will have a ship model that is very close to a Spruance Class. Have you considered making the Mk 143 ABL, VLS, and VLS with RAM equipped variants?

Perhaps I mentioned this before, but I was originally building this ship as a Spruance before SF2:NA came out. So yeah, I can definitely do that. However, I'm going to need a list of the years each ship was modified. That would require deeper digging than I have the time or patience to do at the moment, so it would be a great help if you could find it for me.

And for now, I've got to finish packing and get things squared away. See you all again in a couple of weeks!

this is probably a little late and I'm sorry if someone already suggested it but I think that having the Red October could be very interesting.

I'm back. Thanks for the info, KJakker. I'll get around to those modified Spruances eventually.

Kidd class is nearly ready to go. Just doing some final testing and decals.

The Red October was a modified Typhoon class. I think there is (was?) one in the SF1 downloads section, though it doesn't really do anything except be a target. If the game engine could handle proper ASW, I'd build more subs.

I've started working on the textures for the Essex's main guns.

post-33721-0-70188700-1398320860.jpg

Each is only 256x256 for performance considerations. I have yet to finish the 20mm mounts; will probably leave those for last.

I also took some time to rebuild the 127mm Oto Melara gun. It's a really difficult shape to make, and I was never really satisfied with the old one (pictured in back of new one for comparison).

post-33721-0-61749500-1398320862.jpg

This weapon is part of one last overhaul for the Kongo to keep the ship looking as authentic as my newer models as my skills improve. It's also going on the Takanami (work-in-progress). This gun will also come in handy if I do Korea's KDX-1 or any major Italian ships.

Just finished the Hatsuyuki class. I know there's not a lot of demand for Japanese ships (or anything other than aircraft carriers...), but I just want to have a good amount of ships for Pacific scenarios.

post-33721-0-15642500-1399096842_thumb.jpg

The Hatsuyuki is the direct predecessor of the Asagiri and shares much of the same design, though is shorter and lighter. All I have left to do is the decals. I'll be uploading an update to the Asagiri along with this ship some time next week.

post-33721-0-05882600-1399096844_thumb.jpg

I'll probably be able to finish the Takanami class around the same time, since it's so similar to the Murasame. I'm glad I've been making my recent models so modular.

All these escorts are necessary because of another major project I've been working on:

Hello,

I like your Japanese warships with plenty of details!

Surely they are very important for Pacific or more global scenarios!!!

Best regards

We may need some Chinese ships for them to sink, though!
