If you have a preference, cut/pate, in this instance the VF84 skin to the Number 001 position, and renumber them all. Old trick that goes back to 2003 and original release of SFP1. personally, I don't think there's any thing wrong with the TMF Corsair; it could just be the automatic cowl flaps Oh, yes. I've been doing that for years, and I'll be updating my TMF F4U-1D shortly, now that I know it's there. Then again, now that I have a Bunker Hill one, I'll see if they've got an Essex skin. In the end I used this site for paint and decal placement for med to late 43. http://www.markstyling.com/F6F.04. Also. There is a squadron where their stipe dose go up.
