Southwest United States for SF2

*******************************************************************************

********************** Southwest United States Terrain ************************

*******************************************************************************

This is a remake of Dave's & Deuces SCal terrain, as included in the TopGun

campaign from 2003.

The following are the biggies:

- Previous target areas moved to their correct locations

- Several new target areas added

- The HeightMap has been regenerated as previous was 3x reality

- Completely retiled with 1024x1024 tiles, via gerwin's TFDTool

- Custom Nellis AFB and Edwards AFB layouts

- Bombing/Gunnery range just east of China Lake

Yuma and Tonopah are hostile airfields.

Currently, the enemy is set to be the Soviets. This is temporary, as I am

currently working several TopGun campaigns and updated, Hi-Res skins, for the

A-4 aggressors. You can change this if you like, in the SWUS_NATIONS.INI file.

After the campaigns are complete, I plan to work to add city tiles and trees.

*******************************************************************************

*********************** INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS *****************************

*******************************************************************************

1. Copy the SWUS folder into "ModFolder"/Terrains/

2. Edit "ModFolder"/Terrains/SWUS.ini to point to a stock terrain.cat file that

you have installed:

CatFile=Desert.cat

3. (Optional) Edit "ModFolder"/Terrains/SWUS.ini to point to an

EnvironmentSystem.INI file of your choosing:

EnvironmentFile=SWUS_ENVSYS_STOCK.INI

;EnvironmentFile=SWUS_ENVSYS_SARCASM_14.INI

;EnvironmentFile=SWUS_ENVSYS_SARCASM_15.INI

I needed to raise the altitude of the clouds, to prevent them from colliding

with the high mountains of the terrain. Included are three Environment

files whose only edits are the cloud height. If you are using one of

Stary's SARCASM mods (recommended), comment out the stock file, and

uncomment out the file for the version of SARCSM you're running. Files for

versions 1.4 & 1.5 are included.

******************************* LEGAL STUFF ***********************************

*******************************************************************************

Since this is still a work in progress for me, I request that you don't upload

modifications to this terrain. I would like the chance to finish it first.

Feel free to reuse the tiles for anything that is FREEWARE, but be aware, I did

not make all possible transition tiles, just the ones I needed for this

terrain.

Do not include any of this in PAYWARE.

I solved the opposition by putting USMC as OPFOR.

Perfect for anybody with the DLC F-21 !

Wow.... seriously, wow!  Amazing scenery. Great job on this!!! Once this terrain  has its  city regions set up with tiles that contain the detail and variety of  the rest of the map, it is going to be one of  the most epic terrains ever.

What am I missing?  How do I make it work?   I looked all over for INI file & I am at zero.          I am trying to get this going & see  Edwards AFB in the game, I work there.

Can you tell me what you did, and also describe your problem a little more?

You shouldn't have to do anything to get the terrain to show except copy the SWUS into your "Terrains" folder.  Not the "Terrains" folder under C:/Program Files...., but the folder under your Mod folder.

If you don't have SF2, you won't have the "desert.cat", which would only cause your runways not to appear.  You need to point to a terrain .cat file that you have.

I extracted it to saved games , thirdwire , SF2 , terrain  ,  I did this with cuba in the past & it worked so I tried it with SWUS  & cant get it going. On a note , the add-on terrains (cuba) are not working also.  I have 4 sf2's & latest patch.  The folders show the file but in the game no joy!

Do you have any add-on terrain working at all ?

If not, check and make sure that the foder name is Terrains .. with S at the end.... the old SFP1/WOV series used "Terrain" which is not a valid folder name for SF2 series

1.1 Update uploaded.  It adds JimBib's Miramar NAS to the terrain, and will be required for the upcoming TopGun campaigns.

can't seem to download it.  the regular menu loads up version 1.0.  If I try to get the 1.1 it tells me that I'm not authorized.

Me too. i just checked. Nothing to do with approval. Be careful, JSF_Aggie! The new version should not be uploaded as an attachment! The original v1.0 file can be removed and the 1.1 version should be uploaded in its place, instead. Just double check the interface when uploading the new version; you can remove the older file and reupload a new one, or you can upload the new one and also keep the older one.

I always upload the new version, then delete the older one. Cuts down on the confusion!
