+Brain32 265 Posted October 30, 2014 I just love how media suddenly loves such happenings, somebody should perhaps mention to them that such things are happening for about 50 years What's great about it is that it gives us a heads up to search for some cool pictures on the Internet :D
mppd 16 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) I just don't understand it...when the current administration in the U.S. took over, it was supposed to usher in a new era of global kindness and peace. How can this be? The lions aren't sleeping with the lambs anymore? Oh sorry, that might be construed as a politicized statement that belongs in another Forum. Skyviper 1,101 Posted October 31, 2014 I wonder though how often are aircraft from other nations escorted out of Russia? Nevertheless I haven't been running around with my arms flailing at every report of a Russian aircraft getting escorted back to where it came from. We all (here at CombatACE anyway) full well know that if Russia wants in bad enough ... it will be very bloodly. Which brings up an interesting question for me. Do our cities have SAM sites? I feel very confident that a fart couldn't go undetected by the strongest air power in the world; however, I was just wondering if the states had some SAM units placed here and there because I know the military always heirs on the side of caution...well or at least I think it does. +daddyairplanes 10,248 Posted October 31, 2014 Not as often Skyviper. The Russians aren't as shy about shooting first, then verifying what they shot at. The Blackbird was created because of that reason and even then (at least officially) skirted the edges of Soviet airspace. And 15 years after the final retirement of the Habu, i have come to believe they really thought satelites would be replacement enough. I agree that no one should have been suprised by how Russia is acting. What suprises me is how the west is reacting.

Evildeadmeat 153 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) During, Cold War, Soviet forces were obsessed with knowing where were the US Navy carrier groups. That was the main reason they flew long range patrol aircraft. Today, USSR is gone and the old Cold War didn't "gone hot". So, I really wonder why Russia has returned to fly those kind of flights (I think these are currently the most intercepted russian aircraft) since it is highly unlikely that USA would launch massive strikes from carriers. Am I wrong? What's the point to initate some kind of "new cold war"? Edited October 31, 2014 by Evildeadmeat

+Gepard 11,315 Posted October 31, 2014 http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/nato-says-it-intercepted-19-russian-aircraft/ar-BBbWrE8 The russians are flying over international waters, did not enter the airspace of a NATO or EU state. So what!!! Its pure routine since years. Its a funny kind of panicmongering. Someone is interessted to increase the military spending, but without a threat the national parliaments will not rise the budgets. So a normal routine thing is billow out to a new danger for the free world and fearsome members of the parliament will be ready to vote for higher military budget. I have a new idea for anti russian panicmongering. We must defend the free world of Europe against the annual invading of russian crows (rooks). Every autumns millions of this ugly birds are invading Central and Western Europe and poison the soil with their p... and harm our ears with rasping. I vote for a drastical increasing the numbers of Eurofighter to shoot down this red black russian aggressors.
+Brain32 265 Posted October 31, 2014 We all (here at CombatACE anyway) full well know that if Russia wants in bad enough ... it will be very bloodly. Yeah they really became too cocky setting up bases all over the world and around the USA and EU NATO members...and then that defense shield directed at us, they say it's because of Iran but I'm not so sure...bloody Russians...

Derk 265 Posted November 1, 2014 The new cold war? Because Putin is a showman and if we don't talk about him or his country he won't be happy anymore. How about Fats Domino for president of Russia ?? +Gepard 11,315 Posted November 1, 2014 Exactly the same goes for Russia Michael.... I agree with you. To much testosteron and to less brain on both sides. The real danger is seen over a long term the growing China and the african emigration. On short term the arabic turmoil.

JediMaster 451 Posted November 3, 2014 I'm not really so worried about China. China thinks differently. The West (and I include all of Europe and even Russia in this) thinks globally. It's all about being big on the world stage. Are we respected? Are we feared? Are we liked? What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Even ISIS thinks that way, threatening countries far away from it. China looks inward far more. They care primarily about what happens inside their borders, above all else. As such, any UN resolution that consist of the violation of sovereignty over an internal matter (ie Syria civil war) they proclaim hands-off, because they don't want anyone interfering with THEM, so they want to maintain that precedent. After that, China looks to its neighbors. They will trade with Africa or Europe or S America, but they don't really care about anything else there. They care about the Pac Rim. India, Japan, Russia, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan...stuff in their backyard. They don't want or need to be a global superpower, they want to be an unparalleled regional power. There are parallels to post-WWII Russia's "buffer zone" idea, but only in execution, not really in philosophy. They don't want Korea under their control as a buffer to Japanese invasion so much as they want Korea doing things their way to maintain order in the regions adjacent to Korea's border. We'll only ever fight China if we stick our noses into China's sphere, like happened in Korea. China would never send "advisors" to the Middle East to fly fighters or operate SAMs like Russia has. It doesn't matter to them. Despite the fact that our last two decades with Russia have been smoother than the last 2 with China, I still find it more likely we could fight Russia again, soon, then China. Especially as Russia has leaders who remember the "bad old days" and still have some of that mindset, while China was never a major adversary, more a wary one that we mutually tried to avoid dealing with and has no lingering resentment to deal with.
