Install instructions (please follow these carefully):
First and foremost, be clear on what module is actually installed on your PC, and what is not. To repeat install requirements:

Requirements:
SF2 Israel, SF2 Vietnam, SF2 Europe, July 2012 patch level or above, 6GB of HDD space.

Recommended but not necessary:
SF2 Expansion Pack 1, SF2 Expansion Pack 2, SF2 North Atlantic. (See install instructions step 4.)

Make sure the minimum install requirements are met, i.e. SF2I, SF2V and SF2E, otherwise problems will occur, from the minor missing aircraft and objects, to the severe game hangs / CTDs. Further if you do not have SF2Exp1, SF2Exp2 or SF2NA, extra install step 4 is needed!

1. Set up the Mod folder.

a. Go to the SF2 root directory, make a copy of an .exe of choice (i.e. StrikeFighters2 Vietnam.exe), and rename it to StrikeFighters2 Korea.exe. Run it once, set game options. When setting graphics, recommend turning off shadows (Shadows: Low). Exit the game.
b. Go to the generated mod folder (C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\), delete the objects folder.

2. Set up the Korea Terrain.

a. Download Wrench’s KoreaV3 terrain here:
http://combatace.com/files/file/13415-sf2-korea-terrain-v3/
b. Go to the mod folder (C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\), create a new folder named Terrains.
c. Extract the downloaded KoreaV3.7z, cut the newly extracted Korea3 folder, paste it into the Terrains folder created above.
Note, after this step, the various terrain files and textures etc. should reside in this path: C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\Terrains\Korea3\

3. Set up the mod.

a. Download the 3 .7z files for this pack, extract them and put the contents of the first two .7z files together (StrikeFighters2_Korea_1_of_3.7z and StrikeFighters2_Korea_2_of_3.7z).
b. Cut the StrikeFighters2 Korea folder, and overwrite it over the mod folder (paste it into C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\)
Note, after this step, the mod folder should be populated with the following:
Campaigns, Controls, Effects, Flight, Menu, Missions, Objects, PilotData, Screenshots, Sounds, Terrains, as well as Options.ini and Version.ini.

4. Step for not having the recommended game installs. (If all three of the recommended games: SF2 Exp1, Exp2 and North Atlantic, are already installed, feel free to skip this step.)

Go to the extracted contents of the third .7z file (StrikeFighters2_Korea_3_of_3.7z), and enter the folder named "No_NA_EXP1_EXP2".

a. If you do not have SF2 North Atlantic, copy the contents of the folder "No NA" into your mod folder (C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\).
b. If you do not have SF2 Expansion Pack 1, copy the contents of the folder "No EXP1" into your mod folder.
c. If you do not have SF2 Expansion Pack 2, copy the contents of the folder "No EXP2" into your mod folder.

5. Mod specific .ini configs

a. In your SF2 installation directory where all the game .exe resides, make a copy of StrikeFighters2 Israel.ini (or any other similar ini) and rename it StrikeFighters2 Korea.ini. Open the newly created .ini and find the following:

[Directory]
...
CampaignsDirectory=Campaigns
...

And change it to:

CampaignsDirectory=C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\Campaigns\

*Please do not just copy paste this line but replace [username] with whatever’s set on your PC.

This step is to prevent stock campaigns from displaying which can sometimes cause problems.

b. In your Mod folder (C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\), open up the file Options.ini, find the [instantAction] section, and replace it with the following:

[instantAction]
AircraftType=F-86E-10
MissionMap=Korea3
StartTime=15:30:00
StartDate=09/18/1951
StartTimeDeviation=120
TextureSet=0
NationalMarking=0
SquadronMarking=0
AircraftNumber=0
KillMarking=0

This would get InstantAction working spawning F-86s, Mig-15s etc.

--- Above are essential steps. Optional steps follow.

6. Files for payware mods.

Go to the extracted contents of the third .7z file, and enter the folder named "Payware Files".

a. The contents in the folder "For Razbam Banshee" are for the F2H-2 aircraft sold by Razbam. If you have it, drop the contents from this folder into the mod folder (C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\), and then drop the .LOD files from your purchase into their corresponding paths (banshee korea.LOD, and f2h2cockpit.LOD for the cockpit). Banshees will thus fly sorties in campaigns.
b. The contents in the folder "For YAP Essex" are for Carrier Pack 1 (CV-34 Oriskany and F9F) sold by Yankee Air Pirate. If you have it, drop the contents from this folder into the mod folder, and then drop Essex_Korea.LOD from your purchase into its corresponding path. Next, create a copy of the .LOD, and rename it "Essex_Korea_Col.LOD" (Without the "). This is crucial, as the game will use the collision LOD for ship deck positioning.

7. Alternate mods.

Go to the extracted contents of the third .7z file (StrikeFighters2_Korea_3_of_3.7z).

a. The folder "F-86 Alternate Cockpit" contains modded F-100 cockpits for use on the F-86 series. If decided to use these cockpits, use the contents in the folder "With EXP2" if SF2 Expansion Pack 2 is installed; if not, use the contents in the "NO EXP2" folder.
b. The folder "F-86 Alternate Skins" contains SF1 F-86 skins adapted to SF2.

And that’s it, the setup is complete.

look in the /Flight folder for the HUDData.ini

open it up and change the top section:

[Debug]
//DisplayDebug=FALSE
DisplayDebug=TRUE

make sure it reads FALSE for "DisplayDebug"

Gents, apparently I missed a file in the original upload. If you've already downloaded the pack, please pop the linked file to your terrains\Korea3 folder. (full path C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\Terrains\Korea3)

http://www.mediafire.com/download/eri35z7vc3ftz91/DESERT_AIRFIELD6_kimpo.INI

If you've not yet downloaded the pack, please discard this post as the pack is updated to include it.

Reason for the .ini is for Kimpo AB to use formation takeoff for AI wingmen since Kimpo is so close to the frontline. If you're assigned a CAP mission and the AI follows the default TW takeoff routine, by the time no.3 and 4 is airborne the Migs will be right on top of them.

Hello Do 335,

I use your old KAW campaign (made the ride through CombatAce for all the Downloads) and updated all the objects, when they were available.

Now my question: What´s new in your Wings Over Korea?

Sorry I have to ask because of slow Internet on my side. Perhaps you can make the new campaign.ini and campaigndata.ini available.

Last but not least: Thank you for keeping KAW alive.

Hiya captainschwarz, to summarize.. lots and lots of ini edits. Firstly the individual mods were provided "as is", secondly they don't work together well when in a campaign, so edits were made to sand off the rough edges and fit them together so to speak. A little weird thing for the campaign engine for example, when a squadron upgrades aircraft, the new aircraft's skin folder name must match the old one or it won't upgrade. I think the three longest projects for me were landing speed adjustments for AI in the data inis, fixing missing decals, and lastly getting the AI gunnery/damage modelling (these 2 go hand in hand) more or less spot on. For me the last one's still ongoing plus the forever ini typo hunting. Eye candy wise very little is new tho except Paulopanz's Mig-15 skins so it might disappoint....

File size is my fault, I should've used 7zip and the whole thing can shrink down to <500MB. Grrrr. If bandwidth limited you might as well wait a bit as i'm planning an update.

Updated. The pack now has 3 parts, with Wings over Korea (3 of 3) newly added. If the original pack was downloaded before, it is best to re-download all 3 parts, as the changes are a lot and I couldn't keep track of all the edits, so the entire package is renewed.

What's new in 1.1 update:

  • 5 new ground war campaigns depicting different phases of the Korean War: North Korea Attacks, Race to the Yalu, Chinese Intervention, Stalemate '51, Stalemate '52. And a revised Korean Air War static campaign. All 6 campaigns are fully flyable from the red side.
  • Added aircraft, skins and FM mods since last release and utilized in campaigns. New sounds for piston engine planes.
  • A complete database overhaul for aircraft, ships and vehicles. Datas are attempted to fine tune to Thirdwire standards. Damage modelling has been revised for better realism and detail. Carrier battle groups now have deadly AAA. Added infantry units for ground combat.
  • Game requirements lowered. Only needs SF2E, SF2V and SF2I. Install instructions updated.
  • More fixes on missing decals in campaign mode, and other misc. fixes.

Added mods since last release:

Seafury, by Skippybing, Wrench, Baffmeister, 7eleven, PauloPanz, GregoryP, Hinchbrook, Stephan1918, KJakker, eburger.
NK prop FMs for IL-10, La-11 and Yak-9, by Baffmeister.
KAW B-29 Pack by Wrench, MontyCZ, PauloPanz, Crusader, GregroyP, Brain32, lindr2, bobrock.
F-86 Fighter Bomber Units skin pack, by Wrench.
SF2 Colourful Korea, by Gunrunner.
AN-M65 1000lb bomb, by ravenclaw_007.
C-47 21TCS skin, by Wrench.
C-47 skin pack, by paulopanz, Wrench.
Li-2 Pack, by paulopanz, Wrench, Kesselbrut, Kubit.
SF2 Wings over Korea (KAW) HiRes hangar and loading screens, by viper63a.
Razbam Banshee tweeks, by Wrench, luk1978.
AD-4NL 3w pack, by Wrench, Dels, Bunyap.
F4U-5 Corsair pack by TMF, Crusader, Wrench, RussoUK, CrazyHorseB34.
Korean War pilot pics, by Capitaine Vengeur.
Open cockpit method by Coupi.

The added mods are a lot more nuanced this time, if I forgot someone please ping me.

Lastly, just wanna say a huge thanks to Wrench, Baffmeister and mue (author of LODviewer). Without whom this update won't be at all possible.

Hi there,

Issue here : no flyable MiG-15.

Emp_Palpatine,

That's weird... Do you have SF2 Europe? The Mig-15 LOD is in SF2E.

I do have all the things requiered and did the installation as per the instructions. They do appear on the map when I choose red side campaign as a Yak pilot, but I can't choose MiG-15 nor fly them in single mission...

Thanks Emp_Palpatine, it looks like the mig somehow turned back to AI only... Perhaps check to make sure the game actually can call up its cockpit.

i.e. check Mig-15.ini in the aircraft folder and see if it has this line

CockpitDataFile=Mig-15_cockpit.ini

and there's indeed a Mig-15_cockpit.ini file in there. And make sure the cockpit folder is present.

Ooooook...

Now this is a very, very strange one.
All is present, I mean Cockpit.ini and the folder.

Still, the MiG-15.ini looks like an I.A plane's one indeed. And the best is yet to come!

When I do edit the file to add the missing line. And Save. And reopen the file : it's there. But as soon as I launch the game, no flyable 15. And what's weird is : the Mig-15.ini is back to its original state! What's going on there?

Apparently we have the classic "inis constantly rewritten everytime game is launched" problem.

Here is the lastest thread!.... (and there were various posts about it in other ones)

http://combatace.com/topic/86529-update-aircraft-list-sf2/?do=findComment&comment=697641

I couldn't ponder out what would be the cause, reckon it's likely to be an OS level thing... In the Korea install luckily only the Mig-15 and Mig-15Bis is affected, perhaps set their inis to read-ony would solve it (among many suggestions posted by other guys but.. nothing concrete it seems).

Far as I can tell, new inis are outputted whenever the EXE detects it has access to new .CATs, so when: fresh install, every CAT is new; a new exe is made, to this .exe every .CAT is new; updates, DLC installs, also new .CATs. So repeated ini outputs means the old .CATs are not recognized. So... registry problem? User account security problem?... This is far as I got.

it's a game engine thing.

The only ways to fix it are :

1) after running the game, and allowing the main ini to build the texture listings, make it read only.

2) make the aircraft 'nationalized' versions ie - NK and PRC, 2 separate aircraft

Last time I tried to make a nation-specific plane, I failed miserably and stopped there my attempts at semi-complex modding.

I'll toy around the "read only" solution and tell ya'll what happening.
When should I select read only, Kevin? Right after updating? After having loaded the game?

where can I find?

magua, did you install the terrain in Step 2? It is a separate download.

2. Set up the Korea Terrain.

a. Download Wrench’s KoreaV3 terrain here:

http://combatace.com...rea-terrain-v3/

Note, after this step, the various terrain files/textures etc. should reside in this path: C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\Terrains\Korea3\

Well, Wrench, I'm still quite curious. Apparently some have this problem and some don't. Never had it myself but I imagine it is rather annoying!...

Do both of you have your installs in C drive? I wonder if it could be the reason.

Anyway guess I'll cross that bridge when it comes to it....

      Well — here it is, this moment. We announce to you, dear friends, our new project and our new game world — "Korea. IL-2 Series." From now on and until the release of the game, we plan to publish developer diaries regularly and quite often, in which we will tell you in detail about most aspects of the new flight simulator. In this, the first, introductory entry, we will "go over the top" and outline the main features of the new project.
        What is it about?
        "Korea. IL-2" immerses the player in a virtual world that recreates the air battles in the skies over the Korean Peninsula from April 1951 to July 1953. Military operations during this time were concentrated in the northern part of the peninsula, and much was decided in the air. These events became a landmark in the history of aviation and military affairs: it was the swan song of propeller aviation (which played a very important role in the Korean War) and the rise of jet aviation. By the time of release, it is planned to recreate no less than 8 player-controlled aircraft — half of them will be jets and the other half will be piston-engined aircraft. The jets will be represented not only by the first "pioneers" of the new era, in which designers and pilots for the first time faced unknown challenges to their skills, but also by the powerful and efficient second-generation F-86A Sabre and MiG-15bis. Piston-engined aircraft will be the quintessence of the era — in the skies of Korea piston aviation enthusiasts will be able to fly the most powerful and efficient machines of this type in history: the F-51D Mustang and F4U Corsair and their Soviet opponents. One of them will be the Il-10 attack plane — where else but in a flight simulator about the Korean War could we pay tribute to the last attack plane of the famous Il-2 series? With improved aerodynamic contours, a more powerful engine, improved flight characteristics, still powerfully armed, and having an armored fuselage — in the hands of an experienced pilot it was a powerful machine.
        Who is it about?
        In the new project we are recreating the air forces of those countries whose pilots were most involved in the aerial battles: the USA, North Korea, the USSR and China. It is interesting that both the Soviet pilots and the Chinese People’s Volunteers participated under the legend that they were all flying North Korean planes — the identification marks of the USSR and China were painted over by the marks of the North Korean Air Force. In fact, there were air regiments in the command structure of the Soviet and Chinese armies, which will be reflected in the uniforms and equipment of the pilots and the language of radio communication. In the main game mode, the player will no longer be an ordinary pilot, concerned only with individual success in a series of combat missions — now the player will be a commander of an entire unit, and on his shoulders will rest not only the management of personnel, but also the planning of combat missions based on the situation and the management of the unit’s resources — the personnel and aircraft.
        What's new?
        The new game engine is even more different from Great Battles than Great Battles was from Rise of Flight. DirectX 12, Physically Based Rendering (PBR) technologies, new visualization systems for atmosphere, vegetation, graphical effects, integration of a new version of the sound API, a new GUI engine and design, an evolution of the aircraft simulation physics engine, including a new aerodynamics, systems operation and damage model, a new damage model for ground objects and ships, a new system of decision making and giving orders to AI pilots, a new radio communication system, and, of course, a new qualitative evolution of the main game mode — all this together makes a qualitative leap, not just an evolutionary step. It required a huge investment of effort and resources from us, because for the new technologies all models, effects, sounds, graphical interface — all this had to be created from scratch. In other words — this is not just "a new version of IL-2," no. "Korea. IL-2 Series" is a completely new version of the engine and has completely new content.   What's next?   Actually, we started the development of "Korea" in parallel with the development of "Great Battles" back in the summer of 2022, and most of the work has already been done. Now we are actively developing the graphical interface and game modes: the development of aircraft has already moved to the stage of creating cockpit models, while the map of Korea is in its final shape and we are already filling it with cities and airfields. The development of dozens of types of ground and sea objects is nearing completion, and the new technological base — engine and tools — is already ready. Most of the development path has been completed, all the parameters of the new project have been defined, and that’s why we can finally announce it with peace of mind and tell you about its features without making promises we weren’t sure we could keep. Thanks for your patience! We will try to keep you updated on what we have already created and how we are progressing during the development cycle until the release.

      I am new to this game but I am loving it and the dynamic campaign is amazing. my only and only problem is that planes just dissapear in the distance, literally just dissapear a short distance a way, around 200 - 500 meters away? not too sure but its very off putting and its clearly an issue for gameplay.
      I am using Patch July 2013
      Wings over Korea mod
      I play on 3840x2160 4K resolution (I'd prefer playing on that) I have extracted the flightengine ini into SF2 Filght folder as well as to the korea folder and made some changes like turned off fade away and increased mesh values, but still to no avail? Anyway to fix this? Its literally the only thing destroying the fun I have with this game.
