Damn. I just have blown up my new Kuril islands terrain. And my backup files wont work properly.

What means, back to the roots, new start from the scratch.

Over the weekend i reactivated an old project of me, a version of Battle of Britain 2 terrain for the 1960th.

Screenshots: Vulcans parking at RAF Wittering, while Lighnings made a full squadron take off.

I added some new parking areas and placed the parked aircraft to correct positions.

At the moment i'm checking all parking positions in the Battle of Britain 2 - 1960th terrain. Its timeconsuming.

ini dancing of any sort always is a big time eater :drinks:

unlike decalling, i imagine you cant duplicate too many parking spaces across airfields. but even duplicating, each skin tends to have small variations on locations

When testing the Battle of Britain 2 1960th terrain i had the well known problem of the squadron mass take off, that some older airplane types, like the Hunter, had problems in that kind, that some planes stall and crash.

I played a little bit with the missioncontrol.ini and found a solution.

[Waypoint]
TaxiSpeed=5.14444
TaxiTime=0
TakeOffTime=25
InitialClimbDist=9260
InitialClimbAlt=410                 <<<<<<<<<<<<< change to this value.
MaxInitialClimbAngle=35       <<<<<<<<<<<< change to this value

So the planes, which took off last, came earlier from climb to horizinal flight and lost not so much speed. This avoid stall and crash. For WW2 scenarios, i think InitialClimbAlt=310 or less should do the job.

I tested if in a flat terrain. I dont know, wheter it will work for an airfield placed in a hilly or mountain area.

For the Battle of Britain 2 1960th terrain i will make two nations.ini. One for the usual Soviet vs NATO setting and a second one for an UK vs France and allies scenario. I love the blue vs blue or red vs red scenarios. No advantage by superior weapons, only the skill of the pilots decide the outcome of an battle.

One thing, which i had forgotten, when i released Battle of Britain 2 Operation Sealion terrain some years ago, was to make correct TOD files for some farm tiles. That caused trees and buildings at the wrong position.

Now i made new TOD files for that farm files and it looks better now.

I think i should release a small patch for BoB2 terrain.

I have finished now the english airbases and have started the french. I decided to take the bases in France as they are in my BoB2 terrain and give them a 1960th update.

Excample: Wissant

i added a concrete runway, some taxiways and two dispersal areas with open aircraft shelters. I know it is fiction, but it is difficult to find infos of the layout of french airbases in the 1960th.

This site might help a bit :

http://www.france-air-otan.net/STRUCTURE/Pages_web/Accueil-Fr.html

Click "bases aériennes principales" or "bases de dispersion", choose the air force and you'll have several views available.

About Wissant, the airfield disappeared when the Luftwaffe left : "After the area was taken over by the Allies in 1944 however, it was returned to farmland"
That's why you can't find infos about it.

French airfield of Desvres. Its an "What-if". What if the French would reactivate the old german airfield near the village Devres in a potential war against UK.

Its fictional, in style of 1960th, with concrete runway, concrete taxiways, dispersal areas with open aircraft shelters.
