this actually impacted me directly, although in a minor way

in 2001, the Army went to the black beret for all Soldiers. but it was discovered that many of the ones purchased for issue were sourced from China.

That obviously wouldnt do after this incident. Alternate sources were found, but there wasnt enough for every Soldier to have one on 14 Jun 2001. amongst the Soldiers that had to wait were us in USAEUR (Germany). we did not get our berets until February the next year.

all because of an overly aggresive Chinese jet pilot!
