I dont underst5and something. realy. Everyone talks about some kind of gigantic traffic, simply exorbitant amounts of new and new users who only dream of playing our wonderful game. I see no more than dozens of downloads. If an airplane has collected 30 downloads, that's really a lot.

Maybe a good point…

But I think a lot of the Trafic comes already from just watching/posting screenshots :dntknw:

There is a big mountain of them… and are all HighRes.

for example simonmiller416. It is bad mode maker?? he said that he cant pay this way. But his aircrafts was BEST aircrafts for years on this site!! How they cool flying wow! WOOW! WOOOOW! WOOOOW! COOOL GLIDING. Missiles pack! great! Piew piew piew!  instead of writing to him right away, dear friend, here's your full access! keep making mods. Dry your tears! Keep working for free! What do we see instead? zero reaction.. A few days later simonmiller416 writes that

"In fact, I don't care about download or not, because I can also make and produce all the content I want by my self. So this is just pure kindness."

I think that mean we will never see his mods for this game

FANATIC MODDER

writes "I can understand that it may be in deficit and some source of income should be found. But charging 10$ a month for a simulator that started in 2006 " .... " Well, guess what. I am not going to release now anything. Let it be I am finished with modding with SF2. "

ok..you got me. I believe that I do not comprehend what you are writing here. Maybe next time, try to calm down, open the window take a long deep breath, think about what to write, and make it into one composed post. That it is easy to read.

Maybe this topic is "hot" but still, some fundamental forum etiquette should be observed.

Seriously you made (and some other users too) a few posts in a row...I do not know which one to read first, or how to read that.

I write about the need to notice other people's work and not be arrogant. It's strange that such fundamental values need to be spoken about

Good point.

I hope Erik's work is noticed by now. Because it is arrogant to think that users deserve everything not giving anything back. - (this is not directed at you for your information)

I just shared what I know about how, how other sites work. In the old days, when the Internet was on dial-up, I worked in the pension fund as the head of the computer technology department. I had programmers, a system administrator and his deputy subordinate to me. The system administrator was a Linux fan. He had all the builds that were possible, free programs and various documents for Linux. This system administrator ran a site where he posted all this in the public domain. Physically, it was in our server room. It was his project, he supported it. Since it did not bother me in any way, I did not interfere with it. And so it was for several years. Our server was the center of all Linuxoids in the city. But then the system administrator quit and moved to another job. His deputy took his place and simply deleted the entire forum and all Linux distributions. He said: I don’t like it when other people’s files are on my computer. You will ask and you will right: "Why did I tell you this?:dntknw:Just to say thanks to Erik. The site was really enjoyable. :drinks:

How do other sites work then? For example, I look, and there are terabytes and terabytes of planes, for example for FS9. Some kind of miracles. It would be possible to reorganize the site, let those who can, take their planes to their Google Disk, the rest to free file storage, for example. No, they just cut off half of the users and that's it. Chop!

I have already suggested that from now on mods should be hosted on external sites, and that modders should gradually repost their old models in the same way, to reduce the space and bandwidth usage of this site.

Another thing is that many people, despite being able to pay for the subscription, do not have the means because they do not have an international credit card.

It could be paid through Google Play, that is, anyone could buy a gift card and "recharge" their credits to be spent.

But after reading everything from everyone, unfortunately what I saw is that there are a lot of arrogant people here who think they are better than others and who do not care if CA becomes a "select club", as long as they are part of it, not caring if in the medium term this will mean the end of CA.

When that happens, they will blame others.

It is always like that.

Well, you didn't fly anything I made from scratch because I simply don't have the technical knowledge to create models .
I do what I can, that is, I edit my files and make my mods in my installation, I create historical campaigns, etc. so that I can play to my liking.
If I had the time, knowledge, etc., I would create mods, but I do what I can, and even so, I've been a beta tester and helped a lot of people, YAP-RW itself has a lot of things that I suggested there.

Thanks for the words.

Hi Erik

I just checked the 'Donations' tab on the site (I shamefully confess that I never noticed it until now). The goal, which, I assume, is the estimated cost for running the site for a year is about $7K. I had no idea that we were talking about a 4 digits number (keep in mind that when it comes to internet business I'm a complete ignorant).
I'm now amazed that, at that rate, you haven't just given up long ago.

Anyway, my first idea was stupid. Don't worry, it not the first time I have a stupid idea.

The timed subscription scheme, to lift the 5 free download a day, looked certainly fair. Unfortunatly some people cheated the system to get more than their free allowance (and apparently a lot more for some). Therefore, you have no choice but to remove completely the free download option.

So, from now on, everyone must buy a timed subricption to download anything. But it looks like some people are not happy with this rule (to be honest, I'm not not overly enthiusiatic about that either). And I can see a possible flaw in this scheme (more on that below).

Here's another idea (the great thing about stupidity is that it has no upper limit).
How about a reward scheme?
Think of it as a gift to people who donate. Donators will be allowed to download files for free whenever they want (forget about file size, and no time limit).

Example:
Someone donates $5, he can download 1 file for free
Someone donates $15, he can download 5 files ($3 per file)
Someone donates $30, he can download 15 files ($2 per file)
Someone donates $50, he can download 1 files per $

The actual figures are for you to decide.

Back to the timed subscription.

Timed limited download looks good but may actually be a bit too generous, and may backfire.
What I mean it that some people, especially newcomers, may abuse it (as someone mentioned before, oldtimers probably have what they need already and will only occasionaly download some new stuff).

Under the new rule, some people will leave CA. That is not a problem for you, and actually may make you life easier. But others may decide to get the cheapest subscription and start to download everything they can, 24/7, like there's no tomorrow. And that's gonna add to your bill.
And it could go worse. Some vicious people may share the cost of a subscription and share the downloads. That won't cost you extra money, but it will reduce your income.
So I think you should set some limit on the download allowance (be it number of files or MBs) to the timed subscription.

Again, that may be utter BS.

Cheers

Franck

The status of Modder is an earned right, and is voted in by a majority votes of the Admins and Modders themselves. One or two uploads do NOT a Modder make. There have been VERY few instances where someone has created and uploaded something of such unbelievable value that they've gotten in so quickly.

The issue isn't about who is or isn't a Modder. It's about monetary funding the keep the doors open, so people CAN upload and download their work. Don't confuse the issue under a smoke screen

To everyone,

Please don't spam this topic.

Please use a single post to answer multiple people. You can (at) people and mention them by name @bazillius @Fdino @Wrench and so on. I'm asking you to do this so it's easier to read. We are eight pages in and it's like reading single thoughts. I dread trying to read this thread now, so please stop. All the good points people have made are lost in the flood and they are incredibly hard to keep track of. This thread reads like.

I am going to play <FULL STOP>

The piano now <FULL STOP>

While I enjoy a cup of coffee <FULL STOP>

I don't care which country you're from or what your etiquette is, we are all capable of understanding and reading multiple thoughts at a time even when expressing them to different people.

My brain thanks you for understanding.

Erik

@froggy cheers mate, those are good thoughts which I'll take into consideration. This is a work in progress, and I will confess that my initial path forward has been augmented by the people speaking up. We have a working post behind the scenes that will help outline and focus the wants and needs of the many into something we can implement. In the interim, we've left the old subscriptions in place for those that can utilize them.

Personally that may be a good idea actually, where people who can't afford a subscription would be able to at least buy some downloads, and stop the multiple accounts because each account can only buy so much, and not allowed to download a limited number, and so on. Also, you may want to look into PayPal or some other payment agency for international customers, which I believe would allow the payment to be paid and so on.
