3bbod_4 Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Hello, I registered over 24 hours ago and posted several useful threads and replies in the Strike Fighters 2 forums. Yet my account is still marked as “New Member” and I can't download any files. Could someone please review my account and help upgrade me to full access? Thanks a lot! Username: 3bbod_4 Quote
+Menrva Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Downloads are only available to subscribers, those that buy site subscriptions. Sorry, but posting "several useful threads and replies" does not suffice, and it's pretty arrogant of you to consider those few posts as useful and that they should grant you anything. There are people here who contributed hundreds of mods over several years. Joining in and saying hi is of no real use to the website's hosting costs. 2 1 Quote
Krabat42 Posted July 5 Posted July 5 That was uncalled for. He is a new member and is asking politely. No need to call him arrogant. And yes, I understand that you get practically the same question over and over but that's how it is with new customers. I remember reading posts where it was recommended to put the "no donloads without paid subscribtion" in a more prominent place. This may be a good idea. 4 1 Quote

I didn’t mean to come off as arrogant at all. I’m just new to the site and was genuinely asking how the download access works now, since the rules seem to have changed. I really respect the work and dedication that modders here have put in over the years — and I’m here because I value that effort and want to learn and be part of it. I appreciate any help or guidance you can offer. Thanks again. 1 Quote

"uncalled for"... come on, really?! So many these days are outright snowflakes... 1 Quote
EricJ Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Yeah, I don't think Menrva came off too condescending, he was just laying the law down, which any of us would do, and I'd probably come off the same way. It's a touchy subject with people here, so I understand sometimes that we gotta be hard on people. 2 Quote
+daddyairplanes Posted July 5 Posted July 5 ive worked with Menrva for a few years now. he can be... an acquired taste i dont see his post here as condenscending, but i can totally understand where some might hell, after 8 months workin near daily when we released ODS30AE, i was tired and callin him an AH under my breath constantly. a few months break and it got better. plus three fourths of what we disagreed on he was actually right about. just his phrasing got me worked up enough to not see it at first 2 Quote
SayethWhaaaa Posted July 5 Posted July 5 There's laying down the law and there's beating someone over the head with the book it's written in. Dude's only been a member for 48 hours. I don't know anyone here who's completely grasped this community's behavioural conventions in that time. People come for info, so we point them in the right direction. No need to jump down their throat. This isn't bootcamp. How's anyone gonna learn anything if they're afraid to ask? 4 Quote

We've already dealt with many users complaining about subscriptions or who had the wrong impression that downloads are a granted privilege after a few posts are done, and that made me wrongly compare this situation with those. 5 hours ago, Krabat42 said: I remember reading posts where it was recommended to put the "no donloads without paid subscribtion" in a more prominent place. This may be a good idea. I had suggested the same long ago. Sadly the owner of the website is nowhere to be seen, it's been a rather long time since he last appeared, and that is pretty worrying. I think only he has the function of posting and pinning stuff in more prominent places like the front page. 1 hour ago, SayethWhaaaa said: There's laying down the law and there's beating someone over the head with the book it's written in. The words might have been a bit 'unpolished' but it sent the message. Furthermore 'we' here at CA have been dealing with all sorts of unreasonable characters lately, so when it looks like it's a walk down that same path we might be on edge. Not only 'respect for the noobs' but also 'understanding for the oldies' and not nitpicking over every word that is written... Hell... most people here don't even have English as their native language, so some slack is appreciated. Cheers 1 1 Quote

I think it goes both ways. It is an unreasonable expectation to be 'granted' upgrades, raises, promotions and such after only being member for 48hrs and posting a few topics and answers. And maybe doing some recon on this site, because it would have cleared up a lot of fog. And the learning question? Sometimes you learn by falling flat on your face and by getting b*tch slapped when needed. Not everything in Real Life (tm) is cushioned and cuddly and soft. Main point though, we are in this together, AND we are a CRAZY bunch of bastards! 2 1 Quote
Trotski Posted July 7 Posted July 7 AS ever, being blunt and to the point, seems to offend folks, the chuckle worthy issue is that the chap who actually posted in the first place, was not offended at all, it was another chap, making a mountain out of a mole hill. One does not need to apologise for speaking fact, or being a bit blunt. This seems to be the current trend in the world today, where we have to apologise for everything, all the time, even when what has been said is not couched in terms that are "acceptable" to people with thin skin. 1 1 Quote
OlWilly Posted July 10 Posted July 10 No mention of required subscription on the download page. No mention of it on the frontpage. I assume nothing is said about it when registering as well. What's the reason for not putting a banner with big block letters on download or front page saying "Downloads are available only for subscribers?" That other site, a-team or whatever, has the paywall mentioned right on the frontpage in big red letters, you won't miss that Unless you are trying being low-key about it I see no reasons not doing that Quote
EricJ Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Erik did have that as a post, and so on, so it didn't obviously work as a means of informing people, it's more or less now word of mouth. Quote
Wrench Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I've asked for that announcement to be added MANY times -- it needs to be clearly stated. Having it so, would make it easier for new(er) members to understand the situation. Unfortunately, I don't have access to edit such things. If I did, I sure would! 3 Quote
