FastCargo replied to Avenger Angel's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Got it back in early 1996, it was shown as a video during a presentation while I was going through Squadron Officer School. Afterwards, I asked the instructor for a copy. It may be the ONLY copy that still exists...at least until I digitized it and put it on YouTube. I haven't seen a better quality version since....and I've looked! Text of the song taken from this website (warning, not for the weak and worthless): http://www.csufresno.edu/folklore/drinkingsongs/html/books-and-manuscripts/1980s/1988-497-TFS-hooters-songbook/index.htm FC -

...NF-5B?
FastCargo replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, in the CF-116D, the tip tanks are optional for loading, but with the correct amount of fuel in each of them. I think I just used the wrong number in the internal capacity of the fuselage tank. I'll take a look at all the Northrop 2 seaters and release a hotfix if necessary. Actually, I'll probably just update the uploads. FC -
Hah! Never been 'that' guy...but I have come across a few 'pop ups' I didn't know about... FC

Hmmm...could have sworn I had put the fuel in KG in the data.ini. FC -
Just tried myself 5 minutes ago. Appears normal for me. Now be advised I had some weirdness myself eariler...couldn't get the site to let me post ANYWHERE. But that seems okay now... FC

View File AT-6B for SF2 Version 2.0 Readme for the Raytheon AT-6B Texan II. For Strike Fighters 2 Series. Version 2.0 Changelog: -Cleaned up some areas on the 3d model plus increased the detail in almost all areas including AT-6B specific items plus the addition of extra details. (antennas etc.) -The skin's texture size and detail has been increased, plus changed to .jpg format. -Weapon modifications in _DATA & Loadout.ini files. -Included the AGM-114L as a CGR and added Hellfire rails to the 3d model to overcome the issue of engaging moving targets. -New hangar and loading screens. -New cockpit glass reflection texture. Version 1.5 MAJOR upgrade in cockpit and model by Dels. Much closer to actual AT-6B appearance and specifications. More weapons tweaking by FastCargo. Version 1.1 Added Sounds HUD Fixed Original model, FM, drop tanks, etc. based on Dels PC-9. Idea, decals, skins and coordination by Dave. Addons and weapons by FastCargo. This version is for the SF2 version of ThirdWire sims only! Installation: Copy the Objects directory into your ThirdWire mods folder. Allow overwrites (if any). The only alteration to basic stock or the current SF2 weapons are a slight tweaking of the basic Stinger missile. Notes on this release: The FM isn't perfect, but will work pretty good as long as you remember it is not an F-22...don't try to pull like you are one. Also, for some reason, certain racks will only load through the loadout.ini, but not in the pull down menu. Haven't found why this acts this way yet. Canopy is activated with animation key #10. Notes on the aircraft, from airforce-technology.com: http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/at-6b-light-attack/ "The multirole AT-6 will be capable of performing missions including: net-centric ISR with the ability for precise geo-registration, streaming video and datalinks; light attack including combat search and rescue (CSAR), close air support, forward air control and convoy escort; homeland defence (border security), port security, and counter-narcotics operations; and civil missions such as disaster area reconnaissance, search and rescue, and firefighting. The AT-6B is equipped with a sensor suite that can include a variety of electro-optical, infrared, laser and hyper-spectral sensors, for example the Wescam MX-15Di. The Boeing joint helmet-mounted cueing system, in service with the USAF and US Navy, can be fitted for targeting. There are six wing-mounted hardpoints for stores. With its MIL-STD 1760 smart weapons interface, the AT-6 can be armed with a variety of weapons including 0.50 calibre machine gun pod; air-to-ground missiles like Hellfire and Maverick; AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles; and munitions including Paveway II / enhanced Paveway II / Paveway IV guided bombs, joint direct attack munition (JDAM), small diameter bomb (SDB) and 2.75in rocket pods." In short, the AT-6B is a LIGHT attack aircraft, perfect for COIN ops, FAC, etc. Operate it with this in mind you'll find you'll have a lot of fun with it. Questions, contact us at CombatAce. Of course, you could use the ruler tool....set the ship as an aircraft that always starts airborne. All you care about is coordinates....the ruler tool will help. FC -
Well, couple of other questions are if that was changed in the Oct 08 patch or SF2 versions, and does it affect gameplay. I know for a fact that in certain ini files, as long as there aren't duplicate entries, you can have 'gaps' in counts. SystemNames in data.ini files come to mind. Good find anyway...anything that can make it easier to sort through ini files is a boon. FC

...NF-5B?
FastCargo replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There is a reason this may be occuring. Are you using this aircraft in a Generation 1 install? FC PS Derk is correct in that the NF-5B is based off the CF-116D. The USERLIST.ini also reflects this. -
Nice! I wanted to talk about taking your laptop apart regularly to do exactly what you said. When I was modding my XPS m170, I did all those things (clean, Arctic Silver, etc) and it made a big difference, especially for overclocking. The actual work isn't that difficult, most laptop makers have a service manual you can download for free that takes you through it step by step. But it's not for the easily distracted or intimidated...it's very tedious. The reason I didn't bring it up was that anyone experienced enough to tackle something like this probably already knows about the dangers of overheating... FC

As someone who has exclusively gamed on a laptop for over 3 years, a few pieces of advice. 1) Regularly use compressed air to blow out the vents. I've seen dust kill a lot of video cards because the intakes/exhaust get blocked. Try to blow out the intake and exhaust...blowing into either could drive dust further into the system. 2) I would NOT use tape anywhere if you can help it...the heat will cause the adhesive to soften...causing your 'feet' to slide and leave a mess, as well as possibly cause the laptop to fall. 3) The best thing I've found is jack up the back about 1/2 to 1 inch, leaving the front 'feet' of the laptop on your gaming surface (I use a flat hardback book that the laptop fits on). The material for the 'jack' should be semi-firm...an eraser-type material is good because it's grippy and can support weight, but flexible enough to conform to the laptop's shape. I would also locate the vents and try to keep the 'jack' clear of them. This also elevates the laptop enough to allow good keyboard use, without sacrificing support for your wrists/forearms if you are at a desk. The height you can 'jack' up the laptop will depend on overall size...I used to use just shy of 1 inch on a 17 inch laptop and it was comfortable. 4) NEVER game (preferably never use) with a laptop directly on your lap. Not only does it get hot of course, but your clothes and skin will conform to the vents, effectively creating a seal and driving up the heat. FC

...NF-5B?
FastCargo replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Simple...don't load them in the loadout screen. Pick sidewinders, or nothing. FC -
Okay. First, under the ModelName= parameter in the Types.ini, just use the name of the primary ini ( PT-76s ). I don't think you need to specify the lod. Second, within the PT-76s.ini, comment out the other entries, and start with the primary LOD file out to the max distance. In other words, instead of: You do this: Check that LOD. If it works, then try: Do this for each LOD. If each one shows up, then troubleshoot with 2 lods at a time. Remember, NONE of the LODs will show up at all, if the hierarchy is different between any of them...hierarchys if changed can only be changed from the 'tips' to the 'roots' of the tree. FC

And here is an example of what to avoid if you want to be known as a modder: http://forum.combatace.com/21bison-t46839.html No screenshot, poor readme, no research. You want to be known as a modder, you NEED to put in the skull sweat. Believe me, people DO notice. FC

The title of 'Modder' is a little nebulous. There is no hard and fast rule about what is considered a modder in the ThirdWire series. I will tell you in general that for a person to be considered, in preferred order of importance, quality, difficulty, originality, consistency and quantity of released products are all factors. A few simple ini edits, even if good ones, probably won't get you branded as a modder (lack of difficulty). A single aircraft, terrain, enviromental mod, even with help from others in textures, ini's, etc, probably will get you labeled as a modder even though it's just one item, because the other factors are high (quality, difficulty, etc). Other things include having a decent readme, a willingness to accept constructive and appropriate critiqing, and being willing to fix major errors. Notice that most of these factors are subjective...so the title of modder to an extent is subjective. Another way to put it...the title of Modder is earned...it isn't given. A very important difference. FC

I don't know...the SH is 40k polygons and it shows. I can't see getting much more than that for any aircraft...usually if something like that happens, the sim just CTDs. FC
