  1. ....here are some points to ponder: 1) If you get caught, it is 20 years prison time...just for pointing at an aircraft. If you cause a medical problem or metal to be bent, kiss the rest of your life goodbye. And yes, people do get caught pretty easily...the FBI takes a dim view of such pranks. 2) Because it's a point source, if you swing it in the sky, you now have a big arrow pointing to your location (as in, your exact street address). 3) If I can see it from my aircraft, I guarantee everyone in your neighborhood can see it too...conventional searchlights are only SLIGHTLY better at attracting attention. 4) You had better hope none of the people that know you have one is a pilot...because assuming they don't beat the crap out of you with it, they'll be happy to call someone who will. May you rot in hell with green tinting you stupid, inbred, craptastic piece of garbage...I was only too happy to give tower your exact coordinates when you illuminated my jet. FC
  2. You are a wet blanket, and who the hell cares. Everyone who enjoyed the movie got what they wanted out of it, doesn't matter if it was Tom Cruise, the F-14, Kelly McGillis, or men in shorts playing volleyball. If you can't contribute to the purpose of the thread, then don't post. FC
  3. Combined topics...you both posted right at the same time. FC
  4. Personally, I've always though these kinds of polls/surveys were dumb. Now, before anyone gets offended, I didn't say the person giving them was dumb, just the surveys themselves. These, along with the 'what's the best fighter/plane' surveys, always have several flaws, starting with the most basic - What's the purpose...what do you plan to accomplish here? The minute you limit your responses, you've already skewed any results you'll get. Also, these surveys depend a lot on personal opinion, of which everyone has one. I've seen flame wars erupt over these things, or go off into tangents unknown...all for a friggin multiple choice question. And you're already getting answers outside of your original list, which should tell you something right there. Before you post something on an online forum, ask yourself what you are trying to accomplish...and if it's worth the post. Besides, the fact you didn't include the B-1B, an aircraft that positively radiates power, speed, and beauty means your choice criteria is seriously flawed. FC
  5. You have to convert it to a file that 3D Studio Max can read. Then you have to find someone willing to work on it to export it to the LOD format that First Eagles can read. FC
  6. A C-5 doesn't have to support a specific aircraft...it could just be brought in as part of the airshow. FC
  7. You normally won't see transports except during campaigns. FC
  8. Just make sure the aircraft's mission is TRANSPORT in the data.ini, which puts it into the available 'pool' to be used. Now, depending if the map you are using has a NATIONS entry, that will limit what nations can be on the map. As long as the aircraft's USERLIST matches the NATIONS entry in the terrain, it should show up at random intervals. FC
  9. This is the one I remember seeing all the time when I was going through pilot training: FC
  10. Ahhh...Del Rio by the sea....spent 6 years there (1 as a SUPT student, 3 as an active duty T-38 IP, and 2 as a USAFR T-38 IP). Did the Bone (and 38) thing at Dyess back in the early 90s, otherwise, been 38s forever. Hopefully you got out of the Viper with an intact neck...seems like a lot of 16 bros I know have tweaked necks in that thing. FC
  11. Goto the next page on the Store part of the ThirdWire site to see First Eagles Gold, First Eagles Expansion Pack, and First Eagles. In order of release: First Eagles First Eagles Expansion Pack First Eagles Gold (Combines First Eagles and the Expansion Pack) First Eagles 2 I believe FE2 has all the content of FEG with updates for the DX10 engine. However, FE2 does NOT have multiplayer. Most mods made for FE/FEG will work with FE2 with a bit of massaging. FC
  12. Slightly off topic, but I have an interesting book on the YF-17: Northrop YF-17 A Pictoral History It's got some really good information on the YF-17 and it's evolution from the F-5 design, to LWF competitor, to F-18 prototype. Another aside, I actually have pics I took of the YF-17 sitting at the USS Alabama Battleship Museum back in 1999. Small aircraft museum, but having one of the two YF-17s was a bonus (total surprise to me) plus one of the A-12s. Not sure of the current status of the YF-17 post Katrina, but apparently the YF-17 didn't suffer too badly. The F4U they had was a loss though... The point of the post is that the YF-17 looks small compared to a F-18...and even smaller if it was sitting next to a Super Hornet. I'd have been curious to see it's evolution had it proceeded into USAF service. FC
  13. Check the Internet. CBS.com has full eps of Star Trek and I think BSG Classic available for free viewing online. FC
  14. Updated version uploaded...several features added and/or fixed. FC
  15. The problem was that the Abbotsford Airshow was losing money in the 1990s. It got so bad that they didn't have the show at all in 1998 and had to sell a hanger to recoup the losses that happened in 1997. I brought aircraft to the show in 1999, 2000, and 2001 and the first year, the show was a shell of it's former self. It started ramping up again slowly, but they've been having to keep costs in line, so they can't offer as much to flyers coming in, therefore there is less incentive to support the show. It doesn't help that a lot of the players still have taskings elsewhere. FC
  16. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_McMahon And Ed McMahon flew FAC in Korea...I didn't hear about that until after he had died. FC
  17. A new update is coming very soon. Adds new features specific to the Jun 2010 patch. FC
  18. A note to you skinners out there. Bump mapping is activated on all models, but has only been applied to visible effect on the T-38A Thunderbird version. All the other models just have a plain bump map. Feel free to experiment with those normal maps to improve the models. FC
  19. I've been running Win7 64 for a while now and the amount of programs not compatible with it I could count on one hand. Most stuff either ran right out of the box, had a patch or easy workaround. FC
  20. View File Northrop 2 seaters for SF2 (Version 2.0) Readme for the Northrop 2 seater aircraft. ********************************* Version 2.0 Release ******************************** This release combines all previous Northrop 2 seaters into one package and updates them to Jun 2010 standards. Only aircraft not included is T-38C due to lack of a suitable cockpit. Several enhancements to all aircraft have been added, including available bump mapping, new F-5A cockpit enhancements, various other tweaks and fixes. Thanks to the following folks: 331KillerBee - For the skins, additional information and hanger/loadout/loading screens, SF2 weapons pack. ChampionsVA56 - For his early T-38A paint scheme. Deigo - For his very nice MODusaf pilot skin! EricJ - Textures, loading screens, readme construction. JAT81500 - For most of the avionics work on which the Saeqeh avionics are based. JSF_Aggie - Range addition for the NATIONS.INI. Jug - Flight evaluation and assistance. Lexx_Luthor - For the Airshow Smoke effect for the Thunderbird T-38A (borrowed from his missile exhaust effects). PappyChkSix - For the original skins, which unfortunately were lost when the models were remapped. Soulfreak - Reference materials. Sundowner - Tips, advice and help. The Mirage Factory - For allowing me to use the cockpit, effects, damage textures and sounds from the F-5A and F-5E FM based off of Mirage Factory F-5A and F-5E. TK - For the ThirdWire series of sims. USAFMTL - For beta testing and advice. Vampyre - Technical assistance. Wrench - Reference materials. To my fellow Combatace moderators - For helping me beta test and work out bugs. Any errors or mistakes are entirely mine. What you will need first: Strike Fighters 2/Vietnam/Europe/Israel patched to Jun 2010 standards. This is not for Generation 1 ThirdWire sims. Optional: JSF_Aggie's SF2 Series Range Terrain for the AT-38B single missions. http://combatace.com/files/file/11067-sf2-series-range/ What is in this archive: 1. This readme (duh!) and the Readme folder. 2. Effects, Objects, Sounds, Flight folder. 3. Alternate Hanger/Loading screens in the F-5B Vietnam Hanger Screens folder. 4. AT-38B missions in the Missions folder. Instructions: 1. Read and understand this entire readme FIRST! 2. Copy the Effects, Objects, Missions, and Sounds folders to your SF2/V/E/I mod directory. Allow directory merging and overwrites (anything overwritten either belongs to me, is part of the SF2 Weapons Pack or is the exact same as the Mirage Factory F-5 effects and sounds). 3. Optional step: Copy the 2 files located in the F-5B Vietnam Hanger Screens directory to your mods/Objects/Aircraft/F-5B directory and overwrite. 4. Optional step: Copy the Flight folder to your SF2/V/E/I mod directory. Contains a NATIONS.INI file that changes Iran from Friendly to Enemy and adds the Range nation. If you have a modded NATIONS.INI already, you may want to insert the proper entry by hand. You will NOT need the Range NATIONS.INI. 5. Optional step: Download and install the SF2 Series Range. 6. That's it! You should see the aircraft in your selection screen. Aircraft Information: Consult the various readmes included here for specific variant information. Notes and Limitations: This uses the 'Open Cockpit' method to place the cockpit model 'inside' the external model. This also allows the ability to add flight controls to the cockpit, which originally didn't have them modeled for the F-5F. Downsides are the that during inclement weather, it will appear 'foggy' inside the cockpit. Capable of being flown from either seat through editing of the main aircraft ini file. Simply uncomment the lines that have the seat you want to fly in, and comment out the lines with the seats you don't want to fly in. The default is the front seat. The gunsight is new and part of the aircraft. You will not have a gunsight if you fly without a cockpit. Also, the gunsight has an ability not normally available to ThirdWire aircraft...use your thrust vectoring control to activate it (make sure your thrust vectoring control is in the neutral position before you start the mission). The FM is reasonably 'close' to the real thing...but defaults to being 'fun' vs being 'perfect numbers'. It gives a reasonable impression on how the aircraft actually flies...but don't expect to hit all the 'numbers' perfectly. This is FREEWARE only, NO money is allowed to be made on the contents of these files, in whole or in part. Released IAW the freeware accords at CombatAce. Feel free to redistribute, as long as the original authors are given appropriate credit. Questions? Contact me at Combatace. FastCargo 10 Jul 10 Submitter FastCargo Submitted 07/09/2010 Category F-5

  22. This is a direct thumb in the eye of those idiots who think just because a weapon was built in the Cold War for Cold War duties can't be retasked to do something completely different...and do it efficient and effectively. FC
  23. You want to have seperate modded folders if you can help it. Combining mods could be bad in that if there are overlapping aircraft with different weapon loadouts, or data.ini's, etc. You can DO a super combined modded install...but it's a LOT of work to make sure it works completely correctly...in my opinion it's not worth the effort. FC
  24. I caught part of this while in the hotel this week...looks really interesting! FC
  25. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/06/iran-bans-the-mullet I wonder if they think a 'Flock of Seagulls hair' is a bird formation... Thanks to EricJ for the link. FC PS Don't even THINK about making this one political...
