Is there anything else to make 3D models?
JediMaster replied to mdmckeever's topic in General Discussion
I've got 4.02m (with AEP and PF) of Il-2, and I haven't the faintest idea how to do a "fly any plane" mod for it! :) Conversely, any non-flyable plane in SFP1/WoV can be made flyable with a couple of quick edits. The Jedi Master -
Are we to guess then that you had no stability troubles with your prior card, whatever that may be? I mean, there are a myriad possible number of reasons for instability in games (I also take it that while SFP1 is the one it happens to you most in, it does happen elsewhere). Have you looked to see if any of your fans in your case have failed, thereby having an overheating problem? Have you done a thorough virus/spyware check? If it IS the card, the 9600 isn't the newest card out there, did you get it used? Is it possible the card itself is physically damaged? While in Windows cards don't heat up much, but once in a game that temp will skyrocket, so a loose heatsink or failing fan on the card will hurt you. Um...I think it boils down to "need more info" before we can give you more than simple generalities like Fubar and myself have done. ;) The Jedi Master

I take it amazon.uk doesn't have it? Have you tried gogamer.com? I think they're cheaper shipping than that... The Jedi Master

SFP1 and WoV are great games in that they're the ultimate "sandboxes" for flight. Il-2 and LOMAC you have to fly what they give you, but here you can do what you want, when you want, where you want. :) The Jedi Master

I believe they have them (as targets) in Il-2, but you can't fly one. Would love to try and get that monster in the air! The Jedi Master -
Heh, like require 10x the maintenance time at 10x the cost. Let's put it this way: a former F-14 pilot who now flies the Super Hornet (actually, he was involved in the test program) at SimHQ, Chunx, said he'd take the Super Bug into combat over the F-14 anyday. You can armchair general all you want, but the guys that are THERE say it's better, and I'll take their word for it. The Jedi Master

Flew some last night in an MP campaign with this patch, no issues so far. The Jedi Master

I'll tell you in 20 mins, when the DL is done! :) [edit]Well, neat! Wasn't expecting LOTR music at the end, though! :) [edit] The Jedi Master

Don't read too much into that Indian engagement, either. That was carefully staged to test the IAF's setup. They had GCI, AWACS, and multiple groups of fighters up while the USAF had nothing but a few F-15s operating different tactics than usual with no GCI or AWACS support. Their defeat is almost foregone in that case. The Jedi Master

The good thing about them is they have a limited # of shots, and you can outlast them. I think they can fire maybe 4 times? Anyway, I just do the old 3-9 line beam, pop flares, then break into it when it gets close and I seem to prevail 90% of the time. The other 10% is when there are 2 fired too close together and I get hit by #2. :( The Jedi Master

Yeah, I've got it installed...unfortunately it only has TWO missions, both SP, that came with the patch. So we'll have to wait for mission makers to set some up to play it online! The Jedi Master

Say HELLOOOOOOOOO to torque! I'm going to have to map aileron trim to a knob on my HOTAS... The Jedi Master

Word is the gains in certain games are ONLY with Catalyst AI turned on. That means you have to have the CCC version of the drivers, not the smaller simpler control panel version. FYI. The Jedi Master

Dual GeForce 6800 features 1 GB of RAM!
JediMaster replied to Fubar512's topic in Hardware/Software Chat
Well, the difference is a drive stays useful for a long time. A video card doesn't need over 256MB RAM now. By the time it DOES need 512MB (which is what that card really has, as it's split between the 2 chips), the card will have been surpassed by the next generation. I'd rather spend $400 now and then $400 18 months later or so on the next-gen card than $900 now and try to make the card last 3 years! ;) The Jedi Master -
The Flaming Cliffs 1.1 addon really improves FPS in the game. For just plain 1.02, the FPS didn't really change that much. That said, there are certain options that are known to be FPS killers and by turning them down your rate will really improve without sacrificing too much quality. I use "medium" myself, with all planar shadows and no heat blur or mirrors. With my XP 3000+ CPU I had fine performance in 1.02, and it's even better now in 1.1. The Jedi Master

There was a test done on HardOCP of a 256MB card vs a 512MB one. They could fine only ONE game where they saw any difference, and they had to crank it up to 1600x1200 w/heavy FSAA/AF on and even THEN we're talking 15% or so faster only. Considering the price was $200 higher for the 512 card, I think it's currently a waste of money to go over 256! The Jedi Master -
Heh, in the 18 months I had LOMAC 1.02 I got as far as the 4th mission for the A-10 campaign and NEVER touched the other ones. Anyway, with the changing of so many things in the game with 1.1, it doesn't surprise that you might find a mission that no longer works right. Maybe you can "cheat" and take the offending SAM site out of the campaign mission? Declassify it, go into the editor, and just hit "delete"! I've never done it before, but I know people do it all the time. The Jedi Master

I can't recall hearing that problem myself. Do you have other games that work fine? You might try turning off auto reboot on crashing in Windows to see what it is. Also, since you have XP SP2, you might try turning off Data Execution Prevention for LOMAC. I don't have SP2 installed, so I'm not sure where you go to do that. The Jedi Master

Remember the A64 4000 is just the FX-53 renamed. The FX-55 will likely be renamed the 4200 or something when the FX-57 comes out, too. There's no real difference between FX and 64s--the FX is just the fastest 64 available. For price reasons, I'm going to go with a 3700, but it will be the Venice-core 939-pin. I think there are like 3 other 3700 models. I figure with the OC abilities of these chips, I should be able to clock it up to 4000 speeds with little effort, but the cache size is fixed. So everyone remember, go for the 1MB L2 cache! ;) The Jedi Master

Basement?? Hmph! In Florida, we don't have "basements"...that would be an underground swimming pool! :) We don't have attics, either! Too hot and the roofs are too low anyway. All we have is the rooms inside and we LIKE it! I'm sure in the past 7 years projectors have indeed improved. I would've considered one for my main room except I have a ceiling fan I can't do without and nowhere else to mount one. So, 65" rear projection for me! As for the PC, I share an office with the wife's home office, so that's totally out of the question. ;) The Jedi Master

TX! Can't wait to try this out without having to crash into the ground or eat flak to get a hit! The Jedi Master

The reason I asked is I knew someone who bought a Sharp projector in the late 90's. Bulbs for it cost $350. When he first got it they were burning out every other MONTH. After the 2nd one died, he took it in for servicing at least 3 times before the morons figured out it had a bad power unit that kept blowing the bulb. They did refund him SOME of the money he spent on bulbs, plus gave him a spare for free, but it still cost him a good $700 or so in wasted bulbs! Obviously it was defective from the start, though, and you've had yours for some time now so you're probably safe. The Jedi Master

Why'd they have to take out coop????!? The Jedi Master

You know, I don't think you can use the US carrier. I think only the Kusnetsov works, but I'm not 100% certain. I also don't think you can refuel from an S-3... The Jedi Master
