JediMaster replied to Klavs81's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
You know, after years of believing that this didn't exist, that it was just a codename for cancelled classified UAV known as Tier 3 (that was replaced by Global Hawk), I learned just yesterday it did! How? I talked with someone who worked on it. He worked at Tonopah in the 80s, worked with the F-117, the B-2, the captured MiGs, and numerous test planes that never saw the light of day. Now, he didn't say the thing ever flew, but he did say they tested the engine for it on the back of an SR-71. When I mentioned that many promising programs were killed during the 1st Bush and early Clinton administrations for cost reasons and the feeling that "satellites can do it", he said "Yeah, pretty much." So, I think the bottom line is this plane likely never flew, at least not operationally, but it was in development. Remember those famous pictures in AvWeek of the "shock diamond" contrails? I bet that was the SR-71 w/Aurora engine on its back testing! -
Current State of the Ultimate Universe Mod
JediMaster replied to Acidrain's topic in Star Trek Legacy
That looks like a LOT of work! -
I watched the show when it first aired, and wasn't really taken with it. I missed a few shows in the middle of the run because it lost me. Then I started watching again and got hooked...just as they cancelled it. Oh well. Then I heard the movie was coming out, so I went and rented the DVDs from Netflix. The 2nd time through the show clicked with me. I loved it! Then they killed off people in the movie and I was stunned. I now own both the show and movie on DVD and have seen both several times.

That's Zathras! "Zathras is used to being beast of burden to other people's needs. Very sad life... probably have very sad death, but at least there is symmetry." Sadly, Tim Choate died, a few months after Richards Biggs (Dr Franklin), in 1998. Of course Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) just died last year. The B5 direct-to-DVD movie is due out later this year.

Not only did I see all 3 originals in the theater, they're some of the few things that I still remember from back then! I remember seeing the commercial on TV for SW...Luke walks into the bay and says "what a piece of junk!" I remember thinking, "Yeah, what a junky spaceship!" My mother told me I sat for 2 hours with my mouth open watching it. I remember standing in line for over 2 hours to see ESB. They were selling the Marvel comic adaptation and drinks and food on line outside! Someone had a boombox playing to pass the time, and I recall Gary Nunan's "Cars" playing. I bought the comic, but my parents convinced me NOT to look at it until after we saw the movie. Good thing!! I don't remember as much about ROTJ's release.

I still have to try this...haven't had a chance yet! There was also a B5 FS2 conversion in the works somewhere...

Season 3 has some of the series' biggest highs and lows...lows as in eps that I wasn't really taken with, that just seemed to sit there. The DVDs don't come out until August I think.

Whoa! Talk about different! Hope you left the windows open so the fumes don't knock us out!

The issue of the addon working with 3rd party planes won't be known until we get it. If the planes are named the same (literally the .ini files) then yes, there will be a conflict. In those cases the modders usually release an updated version that's renamed so it will work. I've had ATI cards since SFP1 came out I think, starting with a 9800 thru my X800 XT to my current X1650 Pro. I've not noticed any real troubles with the game, although I admit I've got very little stick time in it to date. Must rectify that soonest!

There are some issues with the training missions in F4:AF I think because they were directly taken from the original F4 with no real changes. Since many other things in AF had been altered, you were left with some problems. I never tried them in AF, to be honest. I've only done TEs and campaigns, and while there are like 42647 key commands, my only problem has been figuring out what to press.

I'd have to pick up Legacy first. I was going to get it back when, but the reviews to a man trashed the game for being cut down and shipped out before it was ready so I didn't.

F-22
JediMaster replied to GregCrack's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, realize that other than the B-2 (which was a bomber program rife with funding issues) NG hadn't run a fighter program in years. The 2 halves had last done the F-14D and F-20, both of which were updates to 70s designs. True NG was the major sub on the Hornet, but it wasn't the lead. -
It was probably political. Around the time that the Hornet would've been a logical buy, the Eurofighter came up. After a couple of years of wrangling, France went its own way with the Rafale. Now, had they known it would be another 20 years before they entered service it's quite likely France might have bought or leased some Hornets, but as they believed at the time it would be more like 10 years they likely decided that upgrading the F-8s would be sufficient. Luckily for them, they managed to press on until the Rafales came around.

[seinfeld] So, what's the deal with Klingon food? I mean, have you seen this stuff? Do they actually expect people to eat food that's still living? I mean, come on! [/seinfeld]

I am cautiously optimistic. The space sim genre has a had a minor renaissance lately, although still nothing compared to the 90s heyday of Wing Commander and X Wing and Freespace and Masters of Orion and such. I would like nothing more than another WC or XW game, but barring that a game in that style is my next wish.

I am, but certainly a bigger fan of the new than the old. While the old was done in the vein of Star Wars, although not as successfully, the new one is more like the latter-day classic B5, my favorite TV series of all time. I love story-arc shows!

LOL! That's an idea I'd not thought of for OFP/ArmA! I know they were trying to do it for Far Cry a few years back, but as of yet I'd not seen any JP mods for any game. Only Trespasser, the game that was JP to start. So, how does a T Rex fare against a Cobra or Abrams??

I use metric for small measurements just fine, but over a meter those numbers mean nothing to me. I know how long it will take me to drive 15 miles in traffic here, but I have no clue how long it would take to go 15km! Ditto weights in kg or liquids in liters. I'm forced to do a rough conversion in my head to have any hope of grasping the numbers! The worst one in metric is time. I just can't figure out that 10 mins/hr, 10 hrs/day thing!

Changing map player plane icon
JediMaster replied to J18Dread's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I've noticed a difficulty in picking myself out on the map as well in FE, a problem I didn't really have in the SF/WoX series. Perhaps it's the scaling of the map. -
The game stores most of its stock files in the .cat files. To alter things like the FM's of the stock planes, you have to extract the relevant .ini files from the .cat files and place them in the proper directory. The game then uses those .ini files over the ones stored in the .cat files. When the game is patched, the .cat's are updated and the .ini's often change. To keep the game from flipping out because there's a prepatch .ini being used, the installer will delete those "stock" .ini's it finds lying around. That means if you still want to change the stock .ini's, you have to re-extract them again. That's all there is to it.

You don't have your .exe renamed, do you? I think that's how the TIR software knows what to do, by the running .exe. That said, I have had this issue a couple of times before in games here and there. LOMAC was one for certain. Went in, no blue light, no TIR. Exit, go back in, blue light is back. :umnik2: Maybe the problem is you're trying to use the same profile as SFP1? Doesn't TIR have a separate one already for MSFS? Flight vs combat flight? I've not done too much with the software myself, but I know it lets you clone profiles and such.

That's before the Beatles existed.

What was that other one, Choplifter? Had to land inside the POW camps and get all the guys on board and race off again?

No, this is that strange conspiracy thing again. That or it's a spoofing attack that makes it look like it's coming from places in your own list. So it could've said the attacks came from anywhere.
