  1. Awaiting the opinion of the masses!
  2. As someone who has never cared for sports of ANY kind, I find myself similarly uninterested in the Olympics. But, if it occupies people for a couple of weeks, so much the better.
  3. Lots of talk goes on here, but generally in their respective forums depending on the sim.
  4. My guess? Windows 8 SP1.
  5. I well remember playing it on release. Took pretty much until the 1.08 patch a year later before the thing was even what I'd call playable. Still flawed, but at least you could finally enjoy it without wanting to kick your PC regularly. Of course, that's when the company shut down. Good on you for keeping with it for the rest of us.
  6. MS has proven, yet again, that despite having tons of money and resources they can still screw it up grandly on a regular basis. Absolutely NO ONE praised the announcement of Flight, the direction it was going, how it was done, nobody. At best some agreed with the stated goal of "widening the appeal", but I think we can all agree they failed in that big time. They didn't appeal to anyone who disliked MSFS and at the same time they not only alienated but at time actively rejected the MSFS base. Staggers the mind.
  7. I will NEVER understand the persistence of that either. Not only no one now alive, but none have been alive for decades now. It's literally something that happened to other people, yet there is some strange romantic notion that it's somehow still current. It probably takes the record for the most fondly remembered failure in history. The US doesn't remember Vietnam fondly. We don't remember 9/11 fondly. We don't remember Pearl Harbor fondly. Yet for some reason a puzzlingly large number of people still lament the CSA's passing. To which my reply is: "they should've had a better military then."
  8. Well...checking it one more time to make certain takes less time than the hearings you'll go thru if you FORGET to do it.
  9. Yep, I recently did that. I had to send TW an email because I bought everything with 2 accounts over the years (as my paypal used one email and then I was using Amazon payments which used another) and I needed them merged. Took a couple of days and then I grabbed it all at once with the installer. Lots simpler than running each of those installers one at a time myself.
  10. Well, see if they were presented that way in-game (like the tab was missing or just said "coming soon"), I would give some slack. Instead, they're there. You can pick them and fly with them. They just won't fire a single shot. It's like they're out of ammo from the start. How much more work needs to be done to make them fire? I've accepted that the AI planes won't have them to use because the logistics are hard to figure...can an AI plane use a weapon mod a player doesn't have? Would the AI pick it based on some mission setting like whether to take bombs? No, that's fine. I just want PLAYERS to be able to use them in coop missions.
  11. I don't know, I could imagine some people being more interested in some of the Luftwaffe's unbuilt prototypes than a failed program like the F-5G/20. I've certainly enjoyed flying them in Il-2:46. Generally speaking, planes that didn't reach production aren't as well known right out of the gate because so few existed and there wasn't much that they could do as a result. That means no exploits to read about other than test flights at most.
  12. Perhaps, but you must admit there are a certain group of people here that would certainly advocate sanctions, expulsions, and probably war if they flew a US flag upside down. That's why I hate extremists (even those who run their own networks and claim to be just telling the "truth"), because actions are never good or bad, it's always WHO did it that matters. We do it, it's fine, just a mistake, a minor thing. THEY do it, it's reprehensible, a direct affront, unacceptable. Morality has become based on the identity of the one doing it, not in the action itself.
  13. It's not that they "planned to survive" so much as they didn't try to get themselves killed. They weren't suicidal, while the Columbine ones obviously were and had no intention of surviving. If the authorities show up once the killing is over, and the killer doesn't threaten the police, there's no reason they won't capture them instead of just kill them. As for the question of "crazy" or not, I would submit that unlike some dope who shoots a clerk robbing a store or a bank in the heat of the moment, there is NO justification for mass murder that makes sense. To do that you must be insane on some level, because one of the definitions of insanity is being unable to distinguish right from wrong...and under what rational line of reasoning is killing dozens of innocents "right"? And before you ask, yes, I think these fundamentalists who go around killing and blowing themselves up because some other schmuck told them "God wills it" are also crazy.
  14. Considering all the uproar over cyberintrusions these days in both military and contractor networks, I'm sure they stole it. As for GIVING it to them, that literally doesn't make sense under any possible train of thought. It provides no advantages to the "givers" at all.
  15. Yeah, it was in the local paper here. It's like mistaking a pickup for an 18 wheeler. Eyewitnesses said they thought the plane wasn't going to stop in time but run off the end of the runway! That wouldn't happen at MacD. Fully loaded a 17 would still have plenty of room to stop.
  16. That's what I've determined and been told by others. That's egregious. It really sucks IMO that the MP mode the game shipped with has been made the redheaded stepchild in the triad with SP (getting career and campaigns now) and Dogfight (the afterthought that unfortunately everyone flocked to). If only they would cater to us coop players again equally. I will never play Dogfight because I have NO interest in flying against humans. Not in ROF, not in DCS, not in Il-2, not in ANY sim. I dislike it because frankly everyone else out there has more time to devote to it than me, so I prefer to fly against AI I can adjust to my level instead of just spend my MP flying taking off, flying for a time, and then quickly dying. Rinse and repeat. Devoting an hour or two a week will never get me good enough to compete, and I don't want to nor do I get any entertainment out of it.
  17. So 13.5 yrs since release and F4's development is STILL not done. So much more to refine. And people ask why other sim developers never attempted anything this ambitious again? They can't afford it. They could put as much money as EA put into SW: The Old Republic and probably still not get it "perfect." It's good that people can work on it in their free time, though. That's the only way F4 can continue to work towards its ultimate promise, the promise made over 20 years ago when F3 was getting ready for release! Nice of ED to finally take up that banner with DCS World, but like F3 after MiG-29 and Hornet, the future may seem bright but then suddenly dim.
  18. I was surprised to see MadCatz enter the FSX addon market! http://combatpilotseries.com/aircraft/ Actually, on reading it I think MC is doing what Fighter Ops was supposed to (YEARS ago) except it will be totally online, subscription-based. Ah, I've got it. This is trying to be the iRacing of flight sims. iRacing based on rfactor, Combat Pilot using FSX.
  19. LOL, what if TK makes planes for DCS World at the lower fidelity level and just uses their netcode?
  20. You want challenging, try going OVER some of those ranges in the Ka-50 while flying NOE! There are times when you can't get the altitude because you can't get the speed and you start to just wallow around... It's not optimized for hot-and-high, that's certain!
  21. So your entire install was only on an external HD? Sorry to say external HDs don't have the life or reliability of internal ones for numerous reasons, but they basically boil down to excess motion, inadequate cooling, and IMO the use of lesser-quality drives. They're good to backup your internal HD because you're only using the thing a few hours a week at most, but as a primary HD they don't stack up. I would use an internal for the game and b/u to an external...in fact, I do!
  22. Well, oxygen IN the air won't cause planes to crash, although the LACK of it would. However, birds IN the air could.
  23. Yes, but the A-10C doesn't even HAVE a radar! I just know a DCS: F-15E would be a ball-breaker with radar usage.
  24. Yup, I've known a few people to lose their canopies on T/O in LOMAC/FC during MP. It's because the default cockpit view doesn't emphasize the thing is open unless you have TIR and look up/left/right and see the frame. Makes it louder, too. Another sim that fit in the LOMAC mold was EEAH/EECH (before the mods). I remember getting in and compared to the almost-DCS-like fidelity of LB2 being taken aback by the simplifications made. That said, it worked great in MP and I flew quite a bit of it. The later mods have upped that fidelity to closer to LB2, although still not quite.
  25. Not bad if that's all he needed. Makes TK's quarter million for MP seem steep!
