How does the game manage
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
KB, thanks! That did it. That line entry was completely missing from all of the aircraft in the CampaignE2 and probably in the others as well. -S -
How does the game manage
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yes, I've got the decals in the correct folder. It's the number list that isn't working. -
I've modded the SF2E 1979 campaign with new aircraft to enhance and accurize (my own word) the default. I've added some new skins, but when the AI fly them, the tail numbers won't appear. On the F-111E that I'm flying, the same thing happens. No tail numbers. I've looked at each .lst and some had them in the 6 digit format (XX-XXXX) where others have them with only five (XXXXX). What format and where do these need to be to get them working? Thanks!

SP is the tailcode for Spangdahlem. And yes, the F-4E ARN-101 (early) is from the 480th TFS at Spang. The 23rd, 480th, and 81st were all assigned to the 52nd TFW and had the SEAD Hunter/Killer mission. The 86th TFW at Ramstein were OCA/DCA and strike. Zweibrucken had the recce mission with the RF-4C. In my mod, I moved the Harriers to the highway strip bases and made them CAS and recce (armed) only. As you observed, SEAD is a bad mission for them against a sophisticated IADS. I added the MF Jag also. Uploading one's personal mod to a campaign is nice, but forces the user to download many new aircraft, unless you use all stock. I think providing threads like this are more useful to show them what units to correct, add or delete for accuracy. Good luck.

I've modded and lengthened my own '79 campaign to include more aircraft types and real units. IMO, there were too many F-15 units and not enough USAFE F-4E squadrons. The 512th and 526th at Ramstein were completely left out. The 23rd TFS was wrongly placed at Bitburg instead of Spang. Plus they were made to be an F-15A squadron, but in real life, flew the F-4D, then F-4E/G. But correcting the ID number in the CampaignE2.ini file, will fix your problem and won't effect supply or mission priorities. That is all contained within the CampaignE2_data.ini There you can correct the home bases and adjust the mission numbers. Like I said before, this was hurried through or left over from the stock WoE campaigns.

SF2E A-10 series .ini tweaks
ST0RM replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
His thread in the Mods section explains that he has made the engine pods visible from the cockpit. They were previously not showing. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=44856 -
Talking with the operators, many share the same thoughts. No such thing as "On time, under budget", anymore.

Luke AFB F-4 skins?
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Here is a quick update shot. These are for the stock TW model, but based off of Ant's SEA templates. I'll be doing more for mppd's Phantom models also. Pardon the low quality of the screenshot. My laptop is 4 years old, so it's not up to the latest graphics quality. -
To help you a bit if you care about accuracy. (I know, it's a fictional campaign anyhow) The units still flying the A-7D were mostly ANG. But one Active-Duty hung around until '81. The 23rd TFW (Flying Tigers) out of England AFB, La. It's actually represented with tail codes in the defaults decals. Here are the Guard units: 114th TFG, SD ANG started in 1977 121st TFW, Oh ANG started in 1978 127th TFW, Mich ANG started in 1978 132nd TFW, Ia ANG started in 1977 185th TFG, Ia ANG started in 1976 140th TFG, Co ANG started in 1974 156th TFW, PR ANG started in 1976 162nd TFG, Az ANG started in 1978 169th TFG, SC ANG started in 1975 As a stretch, you could also use the 355th TFW, Davis-Monthan AFB. They tranferred their aircraft to the ANG in 1979. Good luck.

Not sure if you knew this, but Don Logan is also a former F-4E/F-111A WSO. He was flying in a Phantom over North Vietnam, when he was shot down in Jul 1972. He lives in Wichita, so getting his books is as simple as a 30 minute drive. He's a great scale modeler also. FC, the Sword kits are nice! As you mentioned, it has some issues, but leaps above the old 1/50 Testors/Fujimi kit.

That is one of the projects awaiting my return. Need to put up some shelves and clear the floor space.

Those are awesome. I'd love one for my garage. I wonder if them make them for the two car garages in the States?

It does make one stop and think. Thanks

The hydraulic dump vents are underneath the wings, outboard of the #1 and #4 engines. One for each system (2 systems). When overserviced or the crew leaves the system pressurized prior to engine shutdown, they will piss fluid all over the place. Well, the question is what will happen to the money. Will it be spent as promised; to further and speed up the F-35 program? Or will it end up elsewhere, not helping anyone. If this gets drug out for a long time, the money won't go anywhere and we still lose.

Weapons range in SF2?
ST0RM replied to Planejunky's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes. Just install the basic pack and then use the Range update by Wrench. In the Range.ini file, change the pointers to the Desert/Desert.cat if its not already done. Works fine. -
Luke AFB F-4 skins?
ST0RM replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Got the first one nearly complete. 63-7426. But after talking with Mike, I'll probably re-do the whole thing. Still plodding along. -
Invisible Mavericks
ST0RM replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The default SF2 weapons list already has the CBU-24/B. While trying to use the revised CBU-24/B shape by mppd, the SF2 series requires a different approach. In SF2E, the revised CBU-24/B (SUU-30B.lod) must be posted in the weapons folder. In SF2V, it was ok to place them in the Objectdata folder alongside the default SUU-30.lods and just make the text change in the wep editor to use the new lods/textures. -
BTW, the names of the two Strike Eagle crewmen were released. Capt. Thomas J. Gramith, 27, of Eagan, Minn. Capt. Mark R. McDowell, 26, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

RAF huh? Wow, less than a full month since the Brits pulled out of the 'Deid, they've started back up in Afghanistan.

Thanks Mike. I just re-downloaded some of your SF1 SEA Phantom skins. I'll start with them. I can't find any higher-res SEA templates. -Jeff
