Pappy and Fracture, I hope you dont mind, but I've taken the liberty of updating the internal guns to reflect the addition of a pair of DEFA 552 30mm cannons in place of the standard Colt 20mm's. After some research, I came across that the TA-4Hs had the same mods as the single seat H's, even though the TA-4H was based off the TA-4J and wasnt armed. It was a local upgrade. Here is my .ini entry: // Internal Guns --------------------------------------------------------- [LeftGun] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=30MM_DEFA552 InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN MuzzlePosition=-0.55,4.08,-0.58 LightPosition= -0.55,4.08,-0.58 MaxAmmo=100 EjectShells=TRUE EjectPosition=-0.55,2.41,-0.71 EjectVelocity=0.0,0.0,-2.0 MinExtentPosition=-0.41, 1.96,-0.45 MaxExtentPosition=-0.66, 4.11,-0.68 [RightGun] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=30MM_DEFA552 InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN MuzzlePosition=0.55,4.23,-0.58 LightPosition= 0.55,4.23,-0.58 MaxAmmo=100 EjectShells=TRUE EjectPosition=0.55,2.56,-0.71 EjectVelocity= 0.0,0.0,-2.0 MinExtentPosition= 0.41, 1.96,-0.45 MaxExtentPosition= 0.66, 4.11,-0.68 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy! Thanks for the welcome and the words. I'm trying it as is for now, but am wondering about something. I cant seem to get many of my sounds to work. None of the AB sounds are working and only a few of the RWR sounds. Additionally, the B*tchin Betty on the Ra'am isnt working, so I'm pretty sure something is going on that I'm not aware of. Any ideas? Storm

Opening canopy mod for WOI
ST0RM replied to Syrinx's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Well done. I really like the common use of a single animation, as was mentioned. Makes life so much easier. I second the owing you a pint. I'll be at Mildenhall for a day or two in July on the way to the sandbox. I'll pay up then. Cheers, Storm -
The best simulation game
ST0RM replied to Lorddemonicus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The problem with sims is that you have no physical feedback from the sim. There arent any G's or buffeting you feel, only see or hear them. MSFS is a great tool to make one understand aspects of flight (my instrument flying is pretty decent now), but lacks the combat of F4 or LOMAC. The USN uses MSFS in one of their basic flight programs as a learning tool, so it cant be all that bad. Good luck! Storm P.S. I'm still waiting for someone to include A/R in a sim. From my end, of course ;) -
India invited to join Eurofighter consortium as partner
ST0RM replied to Atreides's topic in Military and General Aviation
Adding a bit here, the Rafale has already been/is being, used in the AG role over Afghanistan. Last March (2007), the Rafale-M deployed and successfully dropped the GBU-12 LGB. It's still over there, being mixed with the Mirage 2000D or operating alone/pairs. The Typhoon is just now getting it's A-to-G clearances in time for it's scheduled deployment to the theater. How much this will play into the decision process is beyond me. My thought is that Dassault has a small lead in that the IAF already is very familiar with their products (M2000) and the Rafale has already proven itself in a real-world environment. Lastly, the Super Hornet has quite a bit of service life left. Even with the F-35 slated to replace it, the E/Fs will the last to be replaced on deck. The USN isnt even done with the conversion of some of the Legacy Hornet units it has earmarked. Storm -
F-101/RF-101
ST0RM replied to CaptainCA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The F-102 has been sought after for quite a long time. Since WoV was released, there was even more callings for it to close the gap it left for some historical campaigns. Not much has been heard. If the 3rd party modders get the time, we eventually see it. In the mean time, I'm happy enjoying their work to date. They given us so much to fly already, and they dont disapoint. Storm -
Finally got around the buying and D/Ling last night. I plan on installing it tonight. I've been trying to keep up with this thread, but it's tough to go back through 30 pages without missing key things. I know that the MF Phantoms are WoI friendly, and the F-16I/F-15Is have been upgraded to work. Also, there is a weapons pack specifically for WoI use. My dilema now is to patch or not. I've read that some things were fixed by the patch while others have been dinked up again. Is there anything that I've missed? Cheers, Storm

I read both of your threads and have found your tactics pretty much "dead on balls" accurate. I'll go back and try the ini edit that you posted and see how much that changes things. Thanks for your time and words. Storm

As I recall, the whole thing was stacked against the F-15s. They operated without AWACS, were plain Eagles without the AESA radar, and no JHMCS/AIM-9X. Call it a ploy to get more Raptors, or to allow the Indians to save face. Who knows. Although during the recent visit to the UK, the Flankers operated without radars and some leaked accounts stated the Typhoons did extremely well. At that time, China was fielding the Flanker as quick as they could. Combined with them utilizing some Western tactics, they made some people a bit anxious. Now, reports are that the Su-30 has fallen out of favor with them as the J-10 has been shown to be better in trials and mock engagements. Again, the J-10 is an indigenous design, so maybe they are hoping to promote it's sales. Storm

Amen to that. With all of the OREs and IGex's we've been having, I've had 0 time on the comp. I didnt see the lightning, but did enjoy seeing that string of Blinders depart. The whole thing reminded me a bit of Red Storm Rising or that scene in Clear and Present Danger, although those were Backfires. Would make for a great mission set. Also nice to hear the CIWS lighting up the incoming "Vampires". Great work! Storm

Tuzla and Brindisi are a must for the AFSOC assets. We were home based at Brindisi, but we forward deployed our CSAR helos to Tuzla once things kicked off. The AC-130 and MC-130s were left at Brindisi and supported us from there. KC-135s were staged from Istres, France, but that is well out of range of the map. Storm

How to make the game better
ST0RM replied to markkyle66's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I agree. I only talk to Red Crown twice per mission. Once going into theater and once again checking out. Otherwise we're talking to a ground based Command & Control agency, and/or AWACS. Our Comm2 is tanker common where we often b*tch to each other about said C&C agency/AWACS. It's sometimes nice having 3 radios, plus SATCOM. Adding normal radio chatter would help out the immersion quite a bit. I've tried replacing some sounds with some mil radio chatter, but it always started over whenever you swapped between inside and outside views. If we could get that to continuously play, problem solved. Storm -
Jug's reply was spot on. 'Nuff said. Storm

Here's me and Bill, about a month ago. I'm on the left in the flightsuit. Bill is a good friend from my last assignment to Ramstein. He's a former C-130 loadmaster who got commisioned and is now a -135 maintenance officer. This was the first time we've seen each other since we both left Germany and I started flying. Jeff P.S. I dont usually have a mustache, but it was "Mustache March" and everyone was growing the combat 'stache for fun and to tick off the E-9s.

Kosovo Air War-Operation Allied Force
ST0RM replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yes, both pilots were rescued. I launched out both CSAR flights on each of those nights. They were a 3-Ship formation of 2 MH-53M Pavelow and a single MH-60G Pavehawk. You should have seen the looks on our faces when we got the brief that a -117 had gone down. Storm -
deployment. Give me a shout at home or on the cell. Cheers, Jeff

I may have missed this, but another thing is that sims last longer than most other games. Of course, there have been exceptions. F4 has been around for years and is still used as a benchmark for new sims to beat. LOMAC tried and did pretty well, but it had such a high learning curve and demanded a very high end machine, it turned many mid-level simmers away. MSFS is in a class of it's own, but I still see people playing/modding FS98. Their Combat FS series was ok, but they half-assed the sequals and people gave up on them. FSX has series potential, but again, it's a hog. There are only a few elite simmers who can run it on highest settings or on an OS that isnt a PITA. The IL-2 series is another game that has stood the test of time. It's one of the best WWII sims ever, if not the best. The TW series has also enjoyed longevity (5+ years now) and is held in high regard for it's ability to be modded and low-learning curve. Sims take a long time to build, in order to get things just right. Look at Jet Thunder and that other jet sim that was hyped at SimHQ. They have been in development for quite some time. Granted they are a "cottage industry" (for lack of a better term) production and on a low budget. Hopefully we'll see a resurgence in sims. I've got some ideas from a current aviators perspective, that I'd like to see implemented in a sim. These are based observations of the current air campaign over Iraq and Afghanistan that I think can be adapted into a very playable and enjoyable sim. Not just dropping JDAMs, but the way things actually work on any given day and how things evolve. Speaking of which, time to step to my jet. Storm

Yea, I'll lend a hand where I can. I deploy alot and have a full schedule with exercises over the summer, but will do my best to help out. I havent skinned anything in years, so maybe I can be of assistance with loadouts or mission design. Let me know. I've got pics of Afghanistan that I've taken from the air if you guys need them also. I had the Suncom setup and loved it when they were new. Over time, the actuators (cant remember the actual term) wore out as they were plastic. I tried replacing them once with some free items sent from Suncom, but it was never the same. Last I heard, Suncom went out of business, so support is not provided if something breaks. The Crate Combo included the SFS Throttle, but was coupled with the lower end F-15 FC stick and not the top of the line F-15E Talon. The difference being less programable buttons and a lack of the Castle HAT switch. I replaced them with CH Products HOTAS and am getting some good use. Good luck! Storm
