EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- This MiG-29 Fulcrum flown by Lt. Col. Tom Hahn, squadron commander of Germany's Fighter Wing 73 "Steinhoff," flies over the Gulf of Mexico during a training exercise. The German MiGs are being hosted by the 53rd Wing during various training missions. Unlike previous visits to the U.S. for training, this deployment provides German pilots the opportunity to fly live-fire missions against both full-scale QF-4 drones and sub-scale drones. This MiG boasts a particularly colorful paint scheme for their "Farewell USA" tour. The Germans are transitioning to the new Eurofighter and this will be the last trip for the MiGs to the U.S. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Michael Ammons) Found at the AF.mil site. Fates

SFP1 download section - models
Fates replied to Armourdave's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
I think it would be great to have the Aircraft Add-ons(models) section organized like the calendars....or the squad links pages in which you have each model represented by a graphic.... I have almost all the new and upcoming models as graphics in 160x120 size....just say the word and I'll zip them and send them to ya. Actually, if it were done like the Squad LInks sections you would have more room to list details about the author...etc...etc... Just my 12 cents....but I'm a dime short. Fates -

Hehe...I used to do the BBS thing all the time back when I got my first Hayes 1200 Smartmodem. As I recall, I think I stumbled onto that site a month or so back. Man, most my Bulletin Board System tinkering was searching for files or downloading games...yeah..the original Napster. hehe. Al Gore created a great internet for us all to use. (sorry...just couldn't resist) Fates

Max deploy speed
Fates replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
180 Knots is standard on almost all aircraft.....from a Learjet to a 747. Although the gear may be able to handle higher airspeeds, it's the spar that it's attached to that doesn't need the radial stress loads over time. There are also things like gear doors that are not manufactured aerodynamically or structurally to take the stress at higher airspeeds. Besides....the real question is "Why do you need them at higher speeds".. and the answer is "you don't". Flaps are the same way the are used for landing...not making a tighter turn. If you want to make a tighter turn...slow down. Air combat is all about who has the most energy. Flaps deplete that energy incredibly quick. They are generally not designed to take the structural loads either. Remember that at 200 Kts, your exerting hundreds of pounds per square inch on the control surface, which is hinged and when that force gets multiplied by x-factor at the fulcrum (hinge bolts), I would just hate to have my flaps depart the aircraft and destroy a more important control surface..."Elevator" Cheers Fates "I am not a military pilot....but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night." -

Fates replied to a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Many at LOMAC Central have stated over and over that the release will not be moddable to great extent. Skins and Decals will be allowed to be edited as stated by Matt Wagner. It has also been stated by the Ranking members of LOMAC that there are plans to have post release mods coming straight from Ubisoft depending on how well the sim does. However, lets focus on getting the game out in a stable form first. Like MJ says, "Mods do not a sim make". I'm sure that with enough money and time, there will be mods to the game, just not end user mods. All of this however will be entirely proportional to the support the sim gets. -
Thought I might post this for ArgonV and the rest of you Historic Wing buffs: Can you Identify this: For your best guess, continue to this site: http://www.historicwings.com/whatsthat/index.html

Ok Everyone...... Weasy aint lured me into America's Army yet....and neither has a certain Beta tester I know. I have however become 100% entwined in BF1942. There is so much great work goin on for the "GAME OF THE YEAR". There are mods galore and, from what I've seen, they all are Multiplayer Friendly. There are mods like Desert Combat .03, which is so popular that it is entended to be the next Official Add-on. The Future addons include a Mechwarrior style game, a Star Wars game, a PIMP wars game...etc....etc....it's just endless. BF1942 has announced "Secret Weapons" in which the addon will include many new flyables, shootables, and drivables.... ] Keep me up to date on what goin on here....I just can't get enough!!!
