F-111B WIP
Vampyre replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I pass by a pretty decent looking F-111B every day on my way to work. We have two of them that I have seen... the first was decent looking the other... well... not so much. It's presently sitting next to a few F-111D carcasses. Vamp -

Outstanding Job guys! I took the OV-10D out for a spin and blew up a bunch of trucks, a ZSU-23, and managed to bag four MiG-23's. It takes quite a few 7.62mm bullets to bring them down. I've been tinkering around with the new planes and actually decided to start a campaign... Its been a while since I've done one of those. Like I said, Outstanding job! Vamp -

Actually, XE is the tail code for my squadron, VX-9. We are currently in the middle of the Op-eval of the EA-18G's. VAQ-129 is the RAG (Training Squadron) for the Prowler/Growlers so it has not yet reached full operational service yet. Very nice pic with the HARM shoot EricJ. Vamp -
This link might help a bit. I suggest e-mailing one of the officer recruiters to and indeed talk to some current officers to see if this is the route you really wish to take. Good luck! http://www.navy.com/officer Vamp

Heres a little something to wet your appetites. Our EA-18G HARM shoot from the other day. Note the lack of a smoke plume. Enjoy! Vamp -

Good decision. We use ATFLIR and Litening on both stations 5 and 6. Sta 5 needs a special mounting adapter for Litening that is only approved for testing purposes at the moment. Vamp -
Ahhh... I remember all the hours my brothers and I played Avalon Hills TACAIR and Fighter Ace and of course Larry Bonds Harpoon series... What a blast we had. We could not do it today though what with real life and the fact that we rarely see each other anymore. Thats why we still play computer games, they are so easy to keep connected and playing even with the distances involved. Maybe when we retire we could start playing wargames again... Vamp

The red light means he is below glideslope...Well, his planes AOA has dropped out and will be shortly anyway... hence all the blackness spewing out the rear. Speed is controlled by AOA and altitude is controlled by thrust in landing configuration. If you want to go faster you lower the nose and slower you pull the nose higher, you add throttle if you want to climb or decrease throttle to dive (or fall out of the air in the Phantoms case). Us Navy F111B?
Vampyre replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Evidently, this airframe (BuNo152714) is in Mojave and was being used to try to restore an EF-111A. I understand that at one point the Pima Air Museum was trying to get a hold of it to display in their collection. I pass by the last complete -111B (BuNo152715) every day on my way to work. She still looks complete, badly in need of a paint job and still needs tires, but complete. -

Geez bob, I might have to put down the AV-8B+ to fly this baby! Awesome work! Vamp -
I see Whiskeys, Yankees, and Zulus all the time... not to mention all the darn bugs too. Also see the War Pigs and Screamin Demons too (our little nicknames for Prowlers and Harriers). Oh, and that lil quake felt even smaller here... I almost didn't notice it. Vamp

Super Hornet F and It's Ava
Vampyre replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
They are not airbrakes. They are called LEX spoilers and they serve two purposes. First, along with the movement of the TEF's (down symmetrically), ailerons (up symmetrically), rudders (in or out symmetrically depending on AOA), and stabilators (LE down asymmetrically to compensate for transient pitch moments due to the actuation of the other surfaces) it acts as a speed brake. Second, it actuates to quickly bring the nose of the aircraft down from high AOA to a normal flight attitude with a minimal loss of energy. Vamp -
If you haven't dived it yet, you have to go to the Blue Hole, SMS Kormoran & Tokai Maru and Shark Pit. Guam has a lot of outstanding dive spots and I love the fact that you dont even need a wet suit. I had a blast every time we pulled in there. Vamp

Supa Hornet
Vampyre replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
It's not that simple. We got G-3 the a couple of weeks ago and there are numreous detail differences between the Fox and the Golf (a great many internal). There are several bumps and bulges on the rear fuselage, The two new wingtip pods, Wing fences, and the dogtooth notches on the leading edges are not quite ... well... dogteeth anymore. Thats just what I saw while doing a walkaround. The pylons are still toe'd out on this one. I had heard that the G model was going to have more streamlined pylons but it looks like it's just more of the same with the first ones off the line. I doubt that the pylons will change though as there is still a requirment for clean separation of the drop tanks from all four plumbed wing stations. Vamp
