  1. "ParkingMaxSpan=12.0" Refers to the largest aircraft types that fit within that particular winspan parameter (with wings folded) that will be placed in that parking spot, by the system. If you tweak the folded span values on both the E-2s and F-18s, and adjust the parking span values accordingly on the carrier, yes, you can "limit" to some extent, which aircraft are placed in what area.
  2. It was just a periscope, and "fake" (non-lod) missiles, simulating SS-N-4s. They used radar homing, and the trick to get them to launch was to position a radar-equipped "threat", such as a destroyer, nearby. The sub would then attempt to engage the destroyer, but the missile's rapid acceleration and huge turn radius would prevent them from hitting that target. They would instead home-in on strategically-based ASRs (usually placed within a city or port facility), usually 200-400 KM from the launch point. I made a video of such a launch, following the missile through its flight, right on down to the detonation of its simulated 1 mega-ton warhead, over a port facility on the desert map. The site that the video was hosted on is long-gone. I'd say this was around 2005-2006.
  3. It won't make too much of a difference. The shader itself needs to be edited in order to increase the number of water bumps that are tiled per square kilometer. Then, you run into another issue, you begin to encounter "edges" in the shader effect much more frequently.
  4. I've had similar experiences. The quality of today's components is not comparable to that of similar components from 10-15 years ago. Motherboards were made with more layers, optical drives had thicker drive trays, and the 300 watt power supplies of the day seem to have weighed more than the 700+ watt models of today.
  5. The National assembly building in Hanoi, is number 175. It's now a theater.
  6. In that case, it should be quite obvious. Afterall, what's in a name?
  7. Not really..... Just someone's 1993 Mercedes that washed into Barnegat Bay, NJ as a result of Hurricane Sandy's 13 - foot storm surge tearing across the area's barrier islands. According to the accompanying article, at least 60 cars from just one town by itself, were recovered from the depths of the bay recently, along with the remains of 58 homes! http://www.nj.com/ne...#incart_m-rpt-1
  8. Kevin, remember the sub launched IRBM from a few years ago?
  9. Uh uh. MASER = Microwave Amplification by Stimulatied Emission of Radiation LASER = Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation It's conceptually closer to the latter, though the "skeleton beam" used by the Martian war machines in the George Pal Adaption used a charged particle beam, going by Clayton Forrestor's description of its effects: "It neutralizes mesons somehow. They're the atomic glue holding matter together. Cut across their lines of magnetic force and any object will simply cease to exist."
  10. From the novel: "in some way they are able to generate an intense heat in a chamber of practically absolute non-conductivity. This intense heat they project in a parallel beam against any object they choose, by means of a polished parabolic mirror of unknown composition, much as the parabolic mirror of a lighthouse projects a beam of light... it is certain that a beam of heat is the essence of the matter. Heat, and invisible, instead of visible, light. Whatever is combustible flashes into flame at its touch, lead runs like water, it softens iron, cracks and melts glass, and when it falls upon water, incontinently that explodes into steam.
  11. Completely impossible. That's something that only the developer (ThirdWire) can add, as it would require a new avionics dll file.
  12. E In this series, engines have intake and exhuast temperature thresholds that can be exceeded by staying in afterburner for too long, or by attempting to achieve too high an airspeed at low altitudes. You can also suffer an engine failure from low oil pressure, or high oil temperature (both of those occur only after your engine is damaged by either cannon fire or missile fragments).
  13. Both are incorrect as far as the novel is concerned. The heat ray is supposed to aimed and focused by a crescent-shaped mirror, They actually got that correct in the Steven Spielberg version, as you can see the "crescent mirror" being deployed in a few scenes from that movie.

  15. I've never noticed any difference in performance or compatibilty between ANSI and Unicode ini-files in SF2. I have noticed that some entries in both object and object_data ini-files are Verrrrrry picky in as far as being case-sensitive. But, even there, not consitantly so.....!
  16. I just picked up 9th Company on BluRay. It was very good, in fact, amazing in some respects, when one considers that it was done on a 9.5 million dollar budget.
  17. Initialization (ini) files being in Unicode or in ANSI makes absolutely no difference to the SF2 game engine. Just keep in mind that SF2 can read unicode, and SF1 cannot. And an .ini file is not a TXT file. TXT is a separate file format denoting text files. You obviously meant to say "textual". Just don't want to further muddy the waters and confuse any noobs that might be reading this.
  18. Sorry, but No, this is a recreation based on an eye witness account of what happened. The top of the Hidenburg was apparrently jumping with St. Elmo's fire. That, coupled with a defective hydrogen vent that allowed air to partially fill an outlet duct (thus creating the right lean air-fuel mixture necessary for combustion), is what caused the explosion. The Hindenburg disaster site is less than 20 miles from where I live.

  20. This was covered in a documentary on the History Channel about a year ago. They even performed an experiment with a scale model of the Hidenburg to determine the likelihood of such a scenario, I cannot recieve streaming video at work (network rules and all that), so I trust that this is the correct youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7-RDwdTkfc
  21. Unfortunately, there is no provison for that feature in any Third Wire title.
  22. Perhaps that pilot believes that the other two (that are inside the aircraft) do not bathe as regularly as they should....
  23. Here's a relatively unknown flick, that fits somewhat loosely into the genre, but is certainly worth watching: In Pursuit of Honor. It takes place during the same period as "The Professionals". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113399/
