  1. Yes, but the X-wings and Y-wings have retractable skids, and TIEs of all flavors were supported by racks when not in use (they could sit on their vertical fins, but as they did not carry a boarding ladder as a weight savings measure, it made it all but impossible for their pilots to board them from the "ground")
  2. Recently, a company that performs high-definition restorations of old photographs, was asked by the Library of Congress to apply their magic to a collection of photos dating from the American Civil War (1860s), into the 1920s. The resulting images are, well, astounding in their clarity. Check them out at the following link: http://photosilke.blogspot.co.at/2013/03/historic-pictures-restored.html USS Oregon in dry dock at Brooklyn Navy Yard,1898
  3. Sheeesh... Haven't either of you seen Star Wars? That's an early model land-speeder.
  4. That DX10 shader effect was introduced at least two (and possibly three) years ago.
  5. We've all encountered these, TV ads which are silly, but still manage to make one laugh. This is one of my favorites, advertising the "on-demand" service from my cable TV provider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJKu7zspZA8
  6. As I read this, I somehow kept hearing "Ring of fire" by Johnny Cash playing in my head......"And it burns, burns, burns....the ring of fire"
  7. Hi Erik! The water's fine, why don't you jump on in?
  8. Well, being that a white is in the same family as a mako or a salmon shark, it should have a similar taste...although that "taste" (at least in the white shark's case) may cost you upwards of $10,000 after you pay the fine for purposely killing one.

None for the Togo Imperium or the Nigerian Air Force? Wait until Wrench and Sparkomatic find out about this!

  12. Because it's not 4X antialising, it is 16x. Bit position 4 = 16.
  13. And, probably the bloodiest combat on D-day took place at Pointe Du Hoc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointe_du_Hoc
  14. If you edit the max visual distance value in any given ship's data.ini file to reflect ASM target acquistion ranges, you'll find that you can target them over the horizon.
  15. Yeah, OK. That makes a lot of sense. At least to someone who may be brain-dead. It's called "Predation". It's nature's way. BTW, foxes have been known to "kill for fun". as have wolves, tigers, and lions. Shall we tell them that it's wrong? Those species, and their ancestors, have only been practicing it for several million years.
  16. Conversely, the East Coast Mako population is in fairly good nick. I've encountered Makos ranging in size from "purple puppies" to freight-car sized behemoths. The most memorable was watching an 800-1000 lb Mako chomping away at a floating swordfish carcass just inshore of the continental shelf. What's been overfished here are the Dusky, Tiger, and Bull sharks, whose populations have been decimated by "finners", that is, lowlife fisherman who catch them, hack off their fins (shark fins are in high-demand in the orient), and then drop the now helpless sharks back in the water, to die a slow death from starvation. I've kept only mid sized (150-250 lb) Makos for the table, and tagged and released the rest. In fact I've probably tagged several hundred blue sharks over the years, as well. some old pics (scanned to jpeg)
  17. Julhelm, Don't confuse this with hunting. This, was a wanton act of cruelty by a pair of a-holes against an animal that was for all intents and purposes a pet. It was conditioned by constant exposure to humans to trust them unconditionally, and to expect kindness and food from them. When a hunter shoots a wild duck, it is over instantly for that animal, and that hunter and his loved one's will get a meal out of that duck. The hunter's intent isn't torture and cruelty.

    And....we have first flight!
  20. If you think that's ugly, you should see what an Eastern seaboard "Conger Eeel" looks like. While it's properly referred to as an Ocean Pout, the locals have proclaimed this creature a Conger Eel: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=6&cad=rja&ved=0CEwQFjAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.maine.gov%2Fdmr%2Frecreational%2Fanglerguide%2Fdoyouknowyourcatch%2Fdocuments%2Foceanpout.pdf&ei=4QSuUdv_H6-30gHe6wE&usg=AFQjCNEKmopVbcCHWQHUAXCiTHQWFIYi8g&sig2=8p3xsUVMU2C4mGMb1bM3Pg&bvm=bv.47244034,d.dmQ Pretty, eh?
  21. Asshats: http://www.liveleak....=831_1370023574 Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the older I get, the more I care about animals, and the less I care about humans. A significant portion of humanity seems to serve no other purpose than to eat, crap, breed, take up space, waste oxygen, and commit every crime imaginable. Just like the two low lifes mentioned in the article.
  22. I am sorry for your loss, Todd.
  23. Yes, with controllers and everything

    Cute...

How time flies. It's been just over a month, and the oldest has almost "earned" his wings!
