This is one of the missing items.....a new SA-N-9 model (navalized SA-15). How's that for detail? Julhelm is a true artist! -
MV Julius Fucik
Fubar512 replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
There are several programs that one can use, including some that are freeware (Blender comes to mind), but only someone with 3DS Max can export the model to the LOD format that this series uses. -
What's this?
Fubar512 replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
For those he did not cheat, it's the Thermal-Electric Powerplant at Uong BI, Vietnam. In SF2 and WoV, the model representing it is located just west of the VPAF airbase at Cat Bi, north of Haiphong. -

Guys, this model is missing sounds, missiles and guns, and using an out of date ini file. It was approved by mistake. It is temporarily on hold on until we add/fix those items. Please accept our apologies. -

"Hovering" trees?

Because they're hovering, my first suspicion would be that eels are somehow involved..... -

Fubar512 replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
No, not quite. And before you ask, no, it's also not the secret facility where they manufacture the McRib for Micky Dees. -
Guess what, and where, this facility is. Hint: It was of some importance during the mid-1960s through the early 1970s, and is pertinent to the series. Well?

MV Julius Fucik

Another webpage on SEABEE ships, with good images of the Dr. Lykes open stern and barge lift: http://www.seabreezes.co.im/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=647:doctor-lykes&catid=34:ships&Itemid=56 -
Since a Red Storm Rising mod is in the works, I figured that the MV Julius Fucik would be a topic of interest. Well, what sort of ship is the Fucik? More than likely, she's a Soviet SEABEE, or Sea-Barge ship, similar to the MV Tillie Lykes. Let's start off with this newspaper article from 1975, which I think served as an inspiration to Tom Clancy, regarding the the Fucik's probable appearance and capabilities: http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=sj41AAAAIBAJ&sjid=IGcEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2387%2C5750191 And for those of you curious as to what the Fucik may look like, here's the SEABEE Tillie Lykes (now known as the SS Cape Mohican): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Cape_Mohican_(T-AKR-5065) This brief fact page brings up an interesting point, which we'll get to in a moment: http://www.msc.navy.mil/factsheet/cape-mohican.htm Sea Barge Heavy Lift Ship Mission: Sea barge heavy lift ships are designed to carry a variety of larger cargo -- sea barges, lighterage, small boats and containers. A sea barge ship, or Sea Bee ship (not to be confused with construction battalion SEABEEs), loads and off-loads large cargo using a giant elevator on the aft end of the ship that lowers to water level. And, straight from Red Storm Rising: JULIUS FUCIK's first officer supervised the loading process from the winch-control station aft, communicating by portable radio to other men scattered about the afterpart of the ship. The elevator matched levels with that of the third cargo deck, and the access door opened to expose the vast cargo deck. Crewmen strung cables onto the trolleys and bolted them rapidly into place. Winches pulled the barge forward into the third, lowermost, cargo deck of the Seabee-for Seagoing Barge Carrier-ship. He paused. "What sort of damage can this ship absorb and still survive?" "He is not a warship, Comrade General." Kherov smiled cryptically. Tille Lykes during the 1970s:

Make sure that you're placing it in the missions folder of the same title in which you've made the A-6A flyable. And remove the back-slashes from in front of the folder names, as that guarantees that the sim will ignore any folders so-marked. Since you're using XP, make sure that you've placed the mod folders inside of My Documents/Thirdwire/SF2 (or SF2V, SF2E, SF2I, etc). It's sll spelled out in the SF2 knowledge base: http://combatace.com/topic/62302-what-is-the-mod-folder/

Here's a mission for you. It involves bombing the power plant at Uong Bi. You'll have three waves of SAM and flak suppressors, spaced 3 minutes apart, the last egressing just as you should be catching sight of the plant. There are 8 bogeys aloft (4 x MiG-17F and 4 X MiG-21MF) , but you'll have lots of fighter cover. I may have even gone overboard in that respect You'll launch at 17:00, which is not realistic, but it makes it easier for you to ID the power plant. Out Go The Lights.zip

My first skin
Fubar512 replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
That's either done directly, through the LOD, or indirectly, through a specular map. In both cases, it is the developer who needs to set that in the model. I do not belive that the Thirdwire Floggers have spec maps associated to them, at this point. More than likely, special paint that won't effect (or reduce) the radar's operation and range. -

It's what's unofficially referred to as a "HandyMax" tanker. They run just under 700 feet LOA, and are sized to operate in just about all international water ways. It's another model by Julhelm. http://www.imcbrokers.com/blog/overview/p/detail/ship-sizes-from-handymax-to-ulcc -
