Tired of getting shot down by the Soviet Navy SAMs

Been trying a bit the stock Meteor F8, after i was surprised about how it fared better than i expected in single missions in the Sinai 1956 timeframe. Just for poo and giggles, i started a rolling thunder campaign with them, and while obsolete, it is still better than i expected. After an Strike mission, i managed to shoot down two MiG-17s, only that i just jumped on them from higher altitude and faster while they were chasing some Skyhawks. They were elusive, but i could even beat one of them in a rolling scissors with plenty of rudder and throotle play. While it remains quite new for me, so i can´t put a scientific verdict about the type, the general conclusion i´m having lately is that knowing your aircraft, thier aircraft, and being an opportunistic and treacherous cheat is the way for a(many) kill(s). I wonder how much the semantics may affect the mindset, but if instead of using the fighters for "fighting" you use them for "hunting" (as they are known in many non english languages) you can achieve much more success than you would have been advertised. But for that, situational awareness becomes paramount. Many underdog types i had seen as almost useless against their contemporaries (Meteor, Super Sabre, et cetera) can be much more effective than expected if you think like a hunter, instead of like a boxer. EDIT: Pic of the mentioned encounter over Vietnam

Israel shoots down Syrian Jet
macelena replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
The article says that it was the first Syrian jet downed by the IDFAF since the 1980s, but didn´t two Baz shoot down two Syrian Fulcrums just a couple of days after 9-11? -
Pentagon to deploy 12 A-10s to Middle East

Wait, the useless, obsolete, to be retired A-10? Back from the edge of the budget grinder, yet again? -
If not a game, have some cookies?

With the E-2C i had different feelings. When one was on station tasked with AEW, i would get info on flights wich otherwise wouldn´t have been noticeable either by my flight or any other, much like another flight reporting about contact and having Red Crown to tell you when playing with a ground based service, however i will have to check it more deeply as i don´t know how it works and sometimes fligths would just get past it, so its behaviour is inconsistent in that matter.

It seems common sense prevailed.

Yes, i said it was one of the things it would have to overlook. Once we've crossed the line of What If, i think we can push it enough so we can add the IRIAF and the AliCats. After all, Libya and Egypt were at war not to long before that. It is just an excuse to try the best stock air force in the game against a harder challenge than the Syrian Air Force was. Btw, I guess some Israeli E-2Cs could be great. They appear in single missions (parked on air bases, not flying) and i wonder how helpful they could become

As the 1982 stock campaign is, while not easy, a bit unbalanced, i thought of different ways to make it more challenging for the Israeli side. So i pictured a much What-If ed situation, basically with Egypt siding up with Israel, but also several other issues to keep it close to the situation of the 6 Day War. A bit far fetched, but it included the pro-western position of Egypt being changed back to what it was like before Sadat, overlooking the Iran-Iraq and Libya-Egypt wars, and the Jordanian monarchy being toppled and replaced by a belligerent anti-israeli government. All right, too many factual messing up for a credible What If, but it is just an excuse to embroil the situation a bit more. I thought of using the 1967 war as a template, and add the Egyptian Air Force (With all stock stuff, it would have F-4Es, Mirages, J-6Cs, et cetera) with some Libyan and Algerian Air Force units along them, and adding the Iraqi and Iranian Air Forces operating from Jordania. It would be stock, but it would use many resources of other titles and DLCs. However we can mass quite an amount of enemy forces to give the IDF more stuff to shoot at, and maybe even some more units to fly with for the Red side (Phantoms and Tomcats by the Iranian and Egyptian Air Forces) If anything, can anybody help with an Egyptian Air Force order of battle for that timeframe?

Oh, and Day of Defeat. A relatively unknown multiplayer shooter wich however was thrilling and exciting. Challenging and scary as Ghost Recon, but set in WW2

Actually, in the Lightning VS Tomcat dogfight, they maneuvered in the vertical enough for 3 out of 4 to remain in the air before the merge, and when the dogfight ensued, each had pulled to a different level, but in the end, the fight evolved into an horizontal game of "Chase his tail". I don´t know, my own flight was "Poor" on training and the Tomcats were "Average", but the Saudis acted smarted than expected and the Iranians dumber, wich is why i had the chance to end up killing both and surviving. Well, and also because i´m a ruthless, treacherous scavenger wich uses his wingmen as bait and never engages in a dogfight without cheating.

As the Tomcat is underrepresented here...i did a new what if dogfight moments ago. 4x RSAF Lightning F.53 vs 2x IRIAF F-14A, both TW models, full load. We spawned about 18 miles apart, and a second later i had a missile warning (radio, no RWR in the Lightning) so i dove and beamed to rooftop level (over a large Dhimari coastal city, not sure wich). As i raced into the ground clutter, i ordered my flight to break. After that, having evaded several missiles, i was doing Mach 1.1 with the 2nd element following me, but my no2 had strayed to the left several miles and got downed by some long range missile. We merged above the docks and in the following furball, i felt weirdly confident with the Lightning. Has some issues with hard maneuvering at high speed, but the acceleration is still quite up to what i needed. The AI pilots tended to turn horizontally and my flight had soon depleted their energy, with the Tomcats easily positioning themselves in their tails at speeds of around 200 knots. Using my speed, wich i had kept almost at double of that, i dove into one wich was turning to leave me his 6 while chasing one of my flightmates, and i manage to shoot it down with 30mm cannon fire just late enough for it to fire a Sidewinder wich killed the other Lightning. The other one had also shot down his Lightning, and was above me, but i had his 6 and more speed. As i closed in, i locked with radar and shot two Red Tops pushing their envelope. Both guided, and while the first went for the flares, the second one hit the last Tomcat. It was quite awesome, but i don´t think i could do it again.

As i have been told, French from the provinces are charming people, and most of any bad image of France is due to the Parisians. Personally, i was around the south and everybody seemed particularly nice

Check the differences between Marines and Airborne examples, appreciate the latter a bit more. However, it is missing one example of each particular family of wich i can recall now: "Retreat? Hell, we just got here!" from Belleau Wood and the excellent, laconic-Spartan, "Nuts!" from Bastogne.
