In Regards to Custom Skin Making
Spinners replied to A48Racing's topic in Mods & Skinning Discussion
@A48Racing - You do seem to be wanting to run before you walk. So just enjoy playing the game, adding a few mods to learn the file structure and, trust me, it will soon become clear and second nature. I started by playing around with the decals.ini to put stock decals where they shouldn't go but this game/sim really took off for me when I taught myself how to make my own decals and skinning soon followed although I often save time by overpainting national insignia and adding my own either directly onto the skin textures or by decals. You'll learn a hell of a lot just by downloading a template(s) (like sundowner's Phantom templates) and seeing how they work. GIMP is absolutely fine to start with. Indeed, 12 years later, I've never felt the need to move on to something better and for decals it is quite simple and very fast if you set your default image (in preferences) as a transparency. https://combatace.com/forums/topic/76701-making-decals-using-gimp/?tab=comments#comment-609704- 37 replies

Is your decal square and do you have at least 10 pixels of space around the serial number? Does the decal work in another location on the aircraft?

Thanks guys. I needed to free up a monitor for somewhere else in the home so I went for the safe 'middle-ground' option of a 2k monitor (2560 x 1440) and it's all working fine.

Gloster Galant FAW.1 - No.92 Squadron, RAF Fighter Command, 1962 During the late summer of 1956 with the English Electric P.1B Lightning programme steadily falling behind schedule, General Alfred Gruenther (the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Air Forces in Europe) expressed his deep concern that it's bases in the UK could not be adequately defended by the "subsonic limeys" so the F-102 Delta Dagger was selected for RAF Fighter Command under the Offshore Procurement Plan with 100 F-102's ordered in November 1956. However with Convair stretched to the max with the F-102, F-106 and B-58 programmes Gloster Aviation were selected to licence build the F-102K as the Gloster Galant FAW.1 with initial deliveries being made to No.19 Squadron and No.92 Squadron at RAF Leconfield in April 1958. View File [Fictional] Lockheed F-19A 'Sniper' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 Lockheed F-19A 'Sniper' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock MiG-19S to create a fictional Lockheed F-19A 'Sniper' in service with USN & USMC Aggressor Squadrons in the 1974 to 2003 timeline. BACKSTORY Only during the mid-1980's was it revealed that an unexpected outcome of President Nixon's historic visit to China in 1972 was the purchase of 30 Shenyang J-6 fighters for use as Aggressor aircraft. The aircraft were clandestinely delivered early in 1974 with the US Navy taking 22 aircraft and the US Marine Corps taking the balance of 8 which entered service with VMFT-401 in April 1976. In service, the aircraft were supported by specialist teams from Lockheed and were eventually designated F-19A with the unofficial name of 'Sniper'. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-19A folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-19A folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to Stary for the MiG-19S cockpit. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. I was just wondering if there's any point in upgrading my monitor from 27" (1920 x 1080p) to perhaps a 28"/32" 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160p? Don't focus on the screensize - focus on the resolution. Does the game even support it? Meant to add that my graphics card is NVIDEA GeForce GTX1050.

Yes, he's done some superb work on expanding the variety of sexy super planes.

View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4F 'Marineflieger' McDonnell Douglas F-4F 'Marineflieger' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock F-4F to create a minimum change maritime strike version of the F-4F in service with the Marineflieger of the West German Bundesmarine in the 1973-1989 timeline. Perhaps with Starfighters falling out of the sky the West German Government enlarged the F-4F purchase and gave the Marineflieger initial deliveries. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4FM folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4FM folder into your Decals folder. That's it! For best results, you will need to have the Kormoran air-to-surface missile by ravenclaw_007 in your install. CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
