  1. The markings of Lothar's DVIIs - there were several - are not known. He did write of his "lovely red bird" - a machine with which he claimed two victories on August 8, but wrote off in landing after the fight. His third victory that day - in the chaos of the 'Black Day of the German Army' was claimed while he was flying a machine borrowed from Erich Just. We do know that he was flying Heldmann's machine the day he claimed his 30th victory on 25 July. Cheers, shredward
  2. Here is a photo of the Great War bookshelves in my War Room. I know that there are lots of you out there with all kinds of books I wish I had. Wish there was some way of pooling it all. Cheers, shred
  3. Fraid that horse has already left the barn. I think I can speak for all of my colleagues on that one. Just noggins full of mush is about all that's left
  4. Yeah, it's all Great War stuff - well, nearly all. And it's a work in progress - there's always the next book I just have to have. Actually, I know there are several librairies in our little community that outstrip mine, and that I would just love to sit in for a few days, or weeks. Cheers, shredward
  5. And then there is this: off_Fokker_DVIIF_ace_t_Jasta 4 1918_Ernst_Udet.dds shred

  8. Take another look: off_Fokker_DVII_OAW_ace_t_Jasta 4 1918_Ernst_Udet.dds I think it was Makai's work - forgive me Stachel if I've got this wrong shredward
  9. Yep, Paarma has really put a huge effort, and months worth of work into this. He had a vision, and though we knew what he was up to, and seen bits and pieces of it, seeing them as they will be awarded has been astonishing. They really are quite beautiful. Bravo Paarma!
  10. Shredward is the formal appellation. It's a ski thing. Informally, I'm Ted Shred, or the Shredder, or Shred for short.
  11. Now that's what I call fun! shredward
  12. And the last one has passed beyond the sight of men. At the going down of the sun, And in the morning We will remember them.

  18. This is the Bow River at the foot of our garden.... The little one is 21 days old today, but who's counting? Shredward
  19. The snow is almost gone now.... Cheers, shredward
  20. D.2370 was a DIII flown by Vzfw Joseph Kettel. That serial is pretty close to the two that we can see in the photo, so I'm fairly confident that is a Ja 50 lineup. The pattern and number of the diagonals on the horizontal stab were what suggested to me the unit. Cheers, shredward
  21. Yeah, that's what I was looking at as well. I'm going to see if I can match any of the serial numbers. Cheers, shredward
  22. I've never seen this photo, but my guess is Jasta 50. I'll look into it. Cheers, the shredder
  23. Hi Guys, I moved Pips post to the Archives, and copied it into Markl's post, but yep, these historical gems are courtesy of Pips. Just wanted to clear that up! Cheers, shredward
  24. Yeah, the souped up Spud 7 was used right to the end of the war, and favoured by many pilots because it was more manoeurable. With any luck, and many hours on Pol's part, we can get some more upengined machines. But again, like always, it's a question of so much to do, and not enough hands or hours in the day. Cheers, shredward
