What a difference 1 generation of computers makes
Gepard replied to 1Patriot-of-many's topic in General Discussion
It is astonishing how good our old, twenty years old game, can be on a good computer. When it starts we were happy with texture files in the size of 256x256 pixel for the plane skins or for terrain tiles. Today we have 1024x1024 or even 2048x2048 pixel skins and with a modern computer the game runs better and faster then in it's starting times 20 years ago. -

Going vertical. BTW. The black square at the nose of the MiG-23 is not a so called "fake cockpit". It is there to avoid reflexions of the skin in front of the IR-sensor.

WW3 aviation tactics/roles over Germany book?
Gepard replied to Stratos's topic in Military and General Aviation
If you want to learn more about eastern combat helicopter doctrine you could look in my book "Mi-24". The basic tactics of attack planes were more or less similar. Only the weapon delivery was different. -
I worked on the mask of the sea tiles, to avoid the different colors between sea and coastal tiles. First step. You see the differences between already reworked tiles and the others. Second step: All tiles reworked. It will need a third step. If you look carefully on the coastline, you see sharp edges between sea and land. This has to smoothtly blend.

Sounds like one of the books of Bill Gunston. -

I made 3 outskirts tiles so far. So it looks in game: Here from higher altitude. You see the outskirt tiles in front, some suburb tiles in the middle and city tile in the far. It's still a long way. For me it was interesting to see, that the houses in the outskirts are much bigger than in the suburbs or in the city. I always thought it would be exactly the different way.
